Ever since Donald Trump descended the golden escalator in 2015 and leftists lost their minds, pointing and laughing at TDS meltdowns has been a popular sport on the right. It probably hasn't been our finest or most charitable moment for the Christians among us, but here we are.
But have you noticed the marked difference in social stature between the people flipping out during the Trump 45 era and the Trump 47 one?
The first batch of conniptions was mostly among the manifestly mentally ill, college students, trustafarians who will never have a real job of any consequence or a respectable position in polite society, or any combination thereof. To refresh your memory, here's what we were looking at in the early days of the Age of Trump.
One of the most striking examples of early Trump-hate meltdowns was the adorable, cuddly, fluffy Trigglypuff. In the Spring of 2016, a University of Massachusetts Amherst student, Cora Segal, attended a conservative event on campus for the express purpose of causing a scene. As the young woman attempted to chant down conservative speakers Steven Crowder, Milo Yiannopoulos, and Christina Hoff Sommers, her dinner-lady arms flapped and flailed her into posterity as a prototypical Trump hysteric. She remains immortalized to this day as one of the most damaging GIFs representative of the Democrat Party brand:

Why didn't the UK put one of these jet-puffed absolute units in tights to attract cat calls? Is the Trigglypuff physique not allowed to prance about the park and city in hopes of arresting the last drip of testosterone in the country? Would the free exercise be ableist? https://t.co/ADHGlhjb5O pic.twitter.com/cqqbsg6mpi

And then there was this poor creature:
Know Your Meme provides the backstory:
On June 1st, 2016, The Alex Jones Channel YouTube channel uploaded a video titled "Trump Supporters Shut Down Protesters"… In the video, a woman with short hair wearing glasses is shown arguing with a man about statistics about [sexual assault] against women.
When you watch the source video, this woman actually seems pleasant enough for a brainwashed feminist. However, she has an unfortunate physiognomy that makes her appear overly animated when she speaks. Someone grabbed a still from the footage, and the rest is history; she became a poster child for the triggered left early on in the Trump age.
The prototype kicked into even higher gear at Donald Trump's first presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, 2017. Anti-Trump protester Jessica Starr (who has since fallen off the grid) was videoed screaming at the sky as America's 45th president was sworn in, and she has been immortalized ever since. You may also find her referred to as "Luke Crywalker."
There ended up being countless examples of triggered liberals — almost always white women — simply screaming and losing it at the mere mention of anything Trump, MAGA, or even Republican. Here's just one that exemplifies the genre:

But when I compare these vintage examples of TDS conniptions to what we're seeing today, they seem almost heroic and balanced. These women were making a sober (albeit terrible) choice to oppose their bête noire in the light of day. They may have looked ridiculous doing so, but at least there was no mistake about where their rage was directed.
Now, the freakout on the left looks more like a complete morale collapse, a sad total surrender as their rudderless party runs up on the rocks. It seems the fight has gone right out of them, replaced by pathetic drunken incidents involving law enforcement and serious consequences.

Even more striking is the caliber of leftists who are now self-destructing. Where once it was the clearly unwell or those without a good reputation to lose, it is now the crème de la crème of progressive society. Ivy leaguers, policy makers, public officials, corporate DEI mavens — they're all getting schwasted and self-immolating in a blaze of ignominy 'neath the flashing red-and-blues of law enforcement.
Columnist Howie Carr, a true Boston treasure, captured this phenomenon in his paywalled column, "Trump broke the Dems!" There, he wrote, "For four years, Democrats ran the show. And now they don’t. They’re very angry about going from going from the penthouse to the outhouse, and they’re not handling it well."
And indeed, the public spectacles from the erstwhile high-and-mighty have been glorious to behold. I have embedded below the most high-profile batch from just this summer, mainly because I could just watch them all over and over again, but be forewarned that these angry, drunk Dem-aristocrats have some serious potty mouths. Grab a snack and enjoy the trip down recent-memory lane.
Last month, a blitzed Massachusetts Democrat State Rep. John Lawn crashed his car near the state house, then left the scene. When the Boston cops pulled him over, he told them he was a state rep, then he spent some time holding up a signpost before they cuffed him.
Ah, here's a doozy: Rhode Island Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Flanagan and her Netflix-exec drinking pal, Veronica Hannan, getting rolled up in tony Newport. Enjoy this riff on the entitled snob classic, "Do you know who I am?"
There was the tragic case of Sean Charles Dunn, the 37-year-old who had a comfy career at the DOJ — until he got 'faced and assaulted D.C. law enforcement officers with a Subway foot-long:

He was arrested and the charge of assault of a police officer will be filed in district court tomorrow… pic.twitter.com/0mmJvdIVba

In vino veritas, and some ugly stuff comes out of these fine folk when they are properly lubricated. Yet the truth is that I don't enjoy it when anyone loses their cool and then loses their livelihood as a result. I think it's sad. But then, it's also sad that these high-paying, consequential jobs — positions that wield power and influence over all of our lives — were all given to such ugly people in the first place.
Carr cannily analyzed what has broken these high-falutin' Dems, and I'll give him the last word:
For four years [author's note: I'd argue it was more like 60 years], they held the whip hand. They could say, or do, whatever they pleased, and no dissent was brooked, period, by cops or any other normal Americans.
Think Hunter Biden. The corrupt DOJ was getting ready to broom every crime he’d ever committed, until two IRS whistleblowers stood up… and Biden’s caregivers tried to fire them. Even though one of them was gay.
It’s a better America when a cop can tell an arrogant, drunk Democrat that he doesn’t give a bleep.
And now it’s all on bodycams, whether it’s Hogan or Lawn or any of them. It was the Democrats who pushed for these police cameras, and now who’s crying? Be careful what you wish for.
