There's something really, really sad about watching Jill Biden scramble this hard to protect a lie. We all know that Joe Biden was cognitively impaired during his presidency; I mean, we all watched him for four years, it was obvious. But no, Team Biden is still trying to pretend that Joe’s disastrous debate performance in June 2024 was a one-off bad night, an inexplicable aberration.
Instead, they keep doubling down, and Jill Biden doubled down in the most absurd way during an interview with Jamie Kern Lima that aired Thursday.
During the interview, Jill Biden was asked what her “gut” told her happened.
“I can't figure it out. That is my honest-to-God true answer. I don't know,” Biden said.
Kern Lima noted that “There's so many conspiracy theories online,” prompting Biden to respond, “Oh, and it'll go on forever.” Kern Lima pressed her, pointing out that Biden “was there” and knows him “better than anyone on the planet,” before asking whether she still had no gut instinct about what happened in that moment.
“No, I mean, there's all kinds of theories, you know,” Jill replied, before launching into a long list of excuses. “He had been traveling, I know he was tired, he didn't feel well that day when I saw him, but there was nothing definitive that I could point to.”
And then she tries to distance herself from the pre-debate situation, a blatant attempt to protect herself. “And I had been on the road for two weeks up until that moment. So I wasn't with him. I didn't see him days before, weeks before. I saw him, maybe one hour before.”
Kern Lima then raised the possibility that someone could have tampered with Biden's drink. “And there's no way anyone could have, God forbid, laced his drink or something,” she asked.
“Who knows, who knows,” Jill Biden replied.
What’s the implication here? That someone on Biden’s team sabotaged him? That someone from the Trump campaign did?

It’s quite shocking that she thinks this effort to rewrite history is going to work. She previously claimed she was sitting in the audience that night and grew so alarmed by Joe's performance that she started asking herself if he was having a stroke. And then, according to her own account, they went to three more events that same night.

Think about how absurd that is for a second. If you genuinely believed your husband might have suffered a stroke or been drugged on national television, you don't shrug it off and go work a room. You get him to a hospital. The Bidens did neither, because deep down, everybody around Joe already knew exactly what was wrong with him, and it wasn't a spiked drink. Jill even claimed doctors examined him immediately afterward and pronounced him fine, then turned around and called the whole thing "inexplicable."
Pick a story.
The Bidens are never going to admit what the whole country already saw with its own eyes: that Joe Biden was cognitively impaired during his presidency, and the people who loved him most decided covering it up mattered more than telling the truth. All these excuses and conspiracy theories are her attempt to absolve herself of responsibility for it.
