Jimmy Kimmel ignited a firestorm after falsely claiming on his show this week that the man who assassinated Charlie Kirk was a MAGA Republican—a serious and incendiary mischaracterization that has many calling for him to be fired.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel claimed Monday night.
Now, it’s been quite clear from the beginning, even before Tyler Robinson was identified, that the shooter was not MAGA and was motivated by left-wing hate. Authorities confirmed this repeatedly.
“What we know so far, there are a couple things that we can confirm that have been reported. We can confirm that again, according to family and people that we’re interviewing, he does come from a conservative family. But his ideology was very different than his family. And so that’s part of it,” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox told Meet the Press on Sunday.
Instead of acknowledging these facts, Kimmel doubled-down on distorting the narrative. He accused the MAGA movement of trying to hide Robinson's true identity to score political points, falsely portraying the assassin as one of them.
This reckless commentary provoked widespread outrage. Social media exploded with demands for Kimmel to be fired and held accountable for spreading harmful conspiracy theories, with many branding his remarks as not only false but deeply evil and harmful to the fabric of public discourse.
“ABC holds taxpayer-funded broadcast licenses with the explicit legal duty to serve in the ‘public interest’ with fair and truthful coverage,” observed political commentator Benny Johnson. “Yet Jimmy Kimmel went on air and told the ABC audience that Charlie Kirk’s assassin was a MAGA conservative, effectively blaming Charlie Kirk for his own assassination.”
Johnson continued, “If ABC refuses to issue a full on-air apology from Kimmel and corrective action their broadcast license should be revoked by the federal government immediately.”
Johnson also said that he has reached out to the FCC and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who later appeared on his show and said there may be action taken against Kimmel.
BREAKING: The FCC Chairman is threatening immediate action against Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and Disney for deliberately misleading the public by claiming Charlie Kirk’s assassin was a MAGA Conservative.

Look, I’d love to see some accountability here. Should he be fired for pushing such a blatant lie? Absolutely. But will he be fired? Of course not. And that’s the bigger issue—because when you step back and consider the fact that so-called “news” outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the legacy media have been pushing the exact same narrative for years, it becomes clear that Jimmy Kimmel isn’t really the problem. He’s just parroting what the media establishment has already normalized. The real cancer here is the corporate press itself. They’ve abandoned journalism for activism, treating it as their job to advance their preferred narratives instead of reporting the facts. Until there’s a reckoning with the entire legacy media machine that props up and legitimizes these lies, firing one late-night host won’t mean a thing. In fact, it would only make him a martyr for the left.
