Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) is definitely panicking at the possibility that a Republican could actually win the gubernatorial race in his state. Otherwise, why would he be in such a rush to enact multiple new laws designed to protect California’s fraud-riddled election system, rather than reform it?

In May, for instance, Newsom signed S.B.73. While he claimed he was protecting the integrity of mail-in ballots, he was really trying to ensure there would be no possibility of verifying whether any of these ballots are fraudulent. The Daily Caller noted that the legislation forbids mail-in ballot observers from contesting signature authenticity.
Newsom has a whole slate of new laws he just signed. One of them, A.B.282, operates on the assumption that Republicans are always terrified to contest an election once officials certify it, no matter how fraudulent it is. The bill makes it a felony for anyone to take custody of ballots or election data before certification of alleged results. S.B.259 criminalizes preventing mail-in ballots from going to a person for any reason, even if there is blatant evidence the person in question cannot vote legally. Many of the bills target content which California Democrats considered to be deceptive about elections, but given their definition of deceptive, these could be used to target any efforts to expose fraud.
There are also bills to provide more services to voters in other languages besides English, and that criminalize taking voting machines or technology away from California officials. A.B.2281 aims to move away from using federal cybersecurity resources. Two bills I find particularly concerning are the following:
SB 884 (Umberg) – Extends the time vote by mail drop off locations are open and modifies the type and range of prohibited activities near a polling location for elections held or proclaimed in 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029.
SB 1420 (Richardson) – Requires the Secretary of State to promulgate regulations establishing uniform procedures for election officials that allow a voter to vote their VBM ballot at a polling location without the VBM ballot’s identification envelope; and 2) requires information to be included in the state voter information guide about early in-person voting opportunities.
Spencer Pratt ended up muscled out of the Los Angeles mayoral race with “statistically impossible” drops of mail-in ballots. Multiple investigations have uncovered schemes to pay homeless people to vote for specific Democrat candidates, or to sign other voters’ names to ballot initiatives in the Los Angeles area. Federal authorities have been arresting multiple illegal voters in Southern California. The Department of Homeland Security found at least 190,832 noncitizens registered to vote in California, and Judicial Watch claims there are up to 873,000 inactive names on California voter rolls.
No wonder assistant U.S. attorney Bill Essayli called California a “fraudsters’ paradise.” As he pointed out, California election regulations are designed to provide as many loopholes for fraud as possible, and the new package that Newsom signed this month just exacerbates the problem.
We all know why Newsom is so frantic to protect his fraud machine. He doesn’t want to preserve democracy or prevent election meddling. He is terrified that Democrats just might lose, and he has to legitimize the fraud even before it happens. The governor whose office draws a little crown on his picture does not believe that citizens should be able to choose their elected officials without interference.
