We know that Democrats prefer top-down control and fewer property owners, partly because the Democrat Party has always been elitist, and partly because the modern party has heavy socialist influences. It certainly seems as if Washington state and California lefties see wildfires as helpful destroyers of private property, rather than as tragic crises depriving deserving people of their homes.
The most recent reminder that Democrats — the same Democrats who will lavish billions of dollars on illegal aliens and international terrorists — have no interest in helping fire victims comes from Washington state. Just as was the case with the Los Angeles area fires, the woke state government has legislation restricting common sense fire prevention methods, such as brush-clearing, which contributed to the severity and scope of the Spokane fire. Also as in the L.A. fire disaster, the Spokane fires were the result of arson, and the arsonist was free thanks to stupid authorities, despite killing his father in Arizona and being under multiple previous charges of arson in Washington. The Los Angeles arsonist, you will remember, hated billionaires and admired murderer and woke hero Luigi Mangione.
All of which I mentioned as context for the following information from Spencer Pratt. There is a reason he is blaming Commies for the disaster in Spokane, just as he blames Commies for his own property loss in the Palisades. Pratt is one of many who sued the Los Angeles city government for its lack of preparation before and horrible response after the fires. And since the 2025 fires destroyed so much property in the Los Angeles area, Democrats have deliberately slow-rolled the rebuild, and even tried to use some of the burned land for government/low-income housing. You see that the Democrats are delighted at the idea that private property could become government property and the living space for many people dependent on welfare. Los Angeles appears to be part of the C40 cities compact that aims to phase out private property ownership for most people.
In Spokane, government is making fire victims pay for crackpipes and heroin needles for homeless drug addicts, but they refuse to waive demolition fees for fire victims, forcing them to pay for permits to clear their own burned out properties. Don't let communists run anything.

Just to give you some context on what Washington state Democrats do like to fund, they diverted some $330 million from COVID funds to illegal aliens. Earlier this year, Spokane officials planned to allocate $100,000 from the police budget for a “community justice fund” for illegal aliens. Washington state also has a disastrous tax system that imposes higher costs on individuals who have productive buildings on lots instead of on empty lots, discouraging land owners from building or operating businesses or rentals.
Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown (D) has thrown tantrums at the mere possibility that private property owners in the area could lease to ICE. In short, it seems obvious that in Spokane, just as in Los Angeles, Democrat authorities are opposed to widespread ownership of private property, and happy to exacerbate the consequences of destructive fires for their own political ends.
