The Wall Street Journal attracted criticism after it marked five decades since the deadly fall of Saigon to the Communist Vietnamese with the headline, “Vietnam Celebrates 50 Years Since End of War.” Even half a century later, American media are still telling the story of the war from the perspective of the mass murdering dictators whom we allowed to win it.
On April 30, 1975, a tragedy occurred as Saigon fell to the brutal, mass murdering Communist Viet Cong forces. After winning every battle of the war (as even a local expert admitted to me in Vietnam), Americans were forced by the government to evacuate, leaving behind an unknown number of free Vietnamese to be massacred by the Communists. It was a black week indeed in America’s history. Yet WSJ’s headline on its print edition framed the anniversary as a happy celebration for Vietnam, which is still under the thumb of impoverishing, tyrannical, evil Communists. Other mainstream outlets followed suit.
War Room host Steve Bannon slammed WSJ and its owners, the Murdochs, for the headline, emblazoned above an image of Vietnamese soldiers. Equally bad, however, was the Financial Times’ headline and opener, displaying shameful Trump Derangement Syndrome, and complete with an image of female Vietnamese troops in full dress uniforms:
Vietnam hails ‘victory of justice’ as it marks 50 years since end of war
Celebrations come as Donald Trump’s tariffs threaten to strain progress made in US-Vietnam relations in recent years
AP babbled, “Vietnam celebrates 50 years since war’s end with focus on peace and unity.” ABC News’ headline was nearly identical: “Vietnam celebrates 50 years since war’s end and focuses on peace.” Orwellian rewriting of history in real time. Vietnam veterans were horribly treated when they returned from the war, and the disrespect continues, as does the total lack of interest in the victims of the tyrannical government, both 50 years ago and still today. Persecution against Christians is still harsh, for instance.
Flashback: Honor Our Heroes on Vietnam Veterans’ Day
It is sickening and shameful how hard it still is to do any honest research on the Vietnam War since most Americans seem to have agreed now as then to accept the Communist version of what occurred, making many false accusations against Americans while basically ignoring the absolute slaughter that ensued after the Viet Cong took over the whole country. It was disturbing to me (especially since my great-uncle died in the war) to go to the war remnants museum in Saigon and find that a whole section of the museum simply used Western newspapers to propagandize about American soldiers. Who needs homegrown Viet Cong propaganda when you can just quote leftist U.S. media? WSJ and company are apparently joining in that inglorious tradition of helping our enemies smear our soldiers.

We will probably never know the true number of how many the Viet Cong, famed for their vicious and perverted acts, slaughtered, but we know they killed at least a million civilians, besides the death toll of American and free Vietnamese soldiers killed during the war. You can read some details here about Viet Cong atrocities, but be aware that the content is highly graphic. Just as Americans disgustingly march now in support of Hamas jihadis, during the Vietnam War, they marched in support of savage Communist terrorists.
Navy vet Frederick Shacklett later remembered the chaos and crisis of the evacuation of Saigon, with dozens of helicopters ditched or thrown off the side of aircraft carriers to make room for ever more helicopters and planes trying to land with South Vietnamese and American forces. “I will never forget April 1975. I remember it like it was yesterday,” Shacklett said. Terry Ohlemeier, a Silver Star recipient who ultimately flew one of the last helicopters out of Saigon (perforce stranding millions of free Vietnamese with Viet Cong butchers), was a friend of my father’s who would never talk about his experience. It was so scarring.
The American leftist media is lying on behalf of genocidal Communist tyrants. Please spread the truth about the Viet Cong and honor our Vietnam War veterans, both living and deceased.
