Renee Nicole Good, Luigi Mangione, and the Radical Left

The recent Minneapolis shooting involving an ICE agent and Renee Nicole Good has me thinking about the kinds of people leftists align themselves with. As we’ve pointed out repeatedly here at PJ Media, videos of the incident show Good attempting to run over an ICE agent with her car before she was shot and killed. We got videos from multiple angles, but we still have people on the left insisting that they show murder, not self-defense. But, it wouldn’t matter either way. The left doesn’t care what the video shows; they just care about the narrative.

On Friday, Luigi Mangione was back in federal court for a pretrial hearing over a potential death sentence, and I was reminded about something deeply troubling. In Mangione's case, we have surveillance footage of him assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson back in December 2024. If you’ve seen it, there's nothing ambiguous about the video. We see Mangione walking behind Thompson, shooting him, and fleeing.

ICYMI: The Left REALLY Doesn’t Want You to Know This About Renee Nicole Good

You can say “allegedly” all you want, but we all know what happened. Even though he killed a man in cold blood, he became an instant celebrity of the far left.

Soon after the assassination, the audience at Saturday Night Live cheered when Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost mentioned Luigi Mangione's name. Last year, CNN's Kaitlan Collins casually promoted his legal defense website on the air. California leftists even pushed a ballot measure named after him. Last summer in San Francisco, a musical based on Mangione opened to the public. "I think a lot of people support him, and what better way to honor him and what's happening by putting it into a musical,” one audience member said. “Creating some levity in a scenario that is just so tragic."

The parallels between Luigi Mangione and Renee Nicole Good are hard to miss.

In both cases, video evidence exists of them committing a crime.

In both cases, the left has chosen to rally behind the criminal rather than confront what actually happened.

ICYMI: This May Be the Best Analysis of the ICE Shooting Video Yet

This pattern feels familiar because it is. Time after time, the left reflexively treats criminals as heroes or innocent victims, even when the facts are staring everyone in the face.

This isn’t a new phenomenon, either.

For decades, the left has publicly celebrated or excused notorious extremists and criminals, including Che Guevara, cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, and convicted or accused pedophiles like Harvey Milk and Roman Polanski. Heck, they’re practically defending socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro solely because Trump successfully captured him.

This is who the left really is. They side with evil by default. Democrats take sides based on ideology and narrative, not facts. They will side with the worst of the worst if they have to. If footage showed Renee Nicole Good telling ICE agents she was going to kill them, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Gov. Tim Walz, and everyone else in the Democratic Party would still be blaming the ICE agent.
