I have to admit that, at times, I was not sure that House Republicans would have the backbone to launch a formal impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. The Republican Party has a sorry history of disappointing its voters, and even though we voted to hold Joe Biden accountable for his years of corruption, it always seemed like a promise that would never be fulfilled.
For sure, an inquiry is not an actual impeachment, but it's an important step. It's hard, given the evidence we've seen thus far, to see how everyone who voted for the inquiry wouldn't ultimately support impeachment. Perhaps the slowness of the process came out of necessity. As House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and other Republican leaders have said multiple times, they've been following the facts without prejudgment.
That stands in stark contrast to Democrats, who, as we know, had planned to impeach Donald Trump before he even took office and then proceeded to do so without any actual evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors.
Democrats didn't care that they were weaponizing impeachment; they just wanted to impeach Trump so badly that they didn't care about anything else. After House Democrats impeached Trump in 2020, Nancy Pelosi gloated, saying, “He’s been impeached forever. They can never erase that."
Republicans, knowing that Democrats would claim that this was some sort of vengeance for what they had done to Trump, built up a solid case against Biden before taking the next steps. It was admittedly frustrating for those of us who are convinced of Biden's guilt, but it was likely what made it possible for on-the-fence Republicans to support the inquiry.
This is exactly why Democrats are intent on pushing the talking point that there's "no evidence" of wrongdoing by Joe Biden.
"I just left the House floor after voting 'no' on the Republican sham impeachment inquiry resolution," Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said in a video post on X/Twitter. "They have no evidence; they make very little bones about it. This is not about high crimes and misdemeanors; this is about providing cover for Donald Trump and trying to dilute the stain of two legitimate impeachments of the former president."
I just voted NO on MAGA Republicans’ sham impeachment inquiry.

They have no evidence.
But they also have no agenda to move the country forward.
So this was the result. pic.twitter.com/JDD4tQVY4F
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) also embarrassed herself by incorrectly claiming Wednesday that Republicans "do not have a single witness to any of their alleged allegations!"

No evidence? No witnesses? Really?
They literally have text messages, whistleblower testimony, an FBI informant's claims of bribery, testimony from Hunter Biden's former business partners, bank statements, White House visitor logs, video evidence, and so much more.
These Democrats are terrified. It's hard to imagine a stronger case for opening up an impeachment inquiry, and here they are astroturfing the same talking points as if repeating the same lie over and over will actually make it true.
With expanded investigative power and more authority to enforce subpoenas, Democrats ought to be concerned about what evidence Republicans will uncover next.
Make no mistake about it; accountability is coming for Joe Biden.
