It's Holy Week, and you know that we wouldn't be able to resist recording an episode of Faith All Over the Place during the most important week on the Christian calendar. We recorded on Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday (which is much easier to say), and I learned a new word: Triduum, or the liturgical period between Holy Thursday evening and Easter Sunday.
My friend, colleague, and partner in podcasting excellence, Stephen Kruiser, and I declared that in a world tainted by war, crazies on both sides of the aisle, and so much uncertainty, the world needs the joy and promise of renewal that Easter offers. As two men for whom faith comes easily, we're hoping that we can spread some of that joy. The world is dark, but Easter is not.
We briefly discussed a New York Times column that questioned whether Jesus rose from the dead and decided that we don't need science to prove everything about the Bible. At the same time, archeological finds have gone a long way to support the biblical narrative of the crucifixion and resurrection.
We talked about how well The Chosen portrayed the Last Supper and the other events of Holy Week that it has covered, and Kruiser said that seeing Jesus Christ, Superstar when he was young has led him to wonder what it was like for the early followers of Jesus to have been right there with Him.
We shared (all too briefly) what Easter is like at our churches and in our families, and we talked about the comfort of ritual that Easter brings, as well as the extra helpings of joy that we get from serving on this holy weekend. We also discussed evangelism and how it works best in one-on-one relationships.
In the "All Over the Place" portion of our conversation, we touched on college basketball and college baseball (of course), and we answered the most burning of questions this time of year: Why bunnies at Easter?
We hope that you have a blessed Holy Week and that you're able to reflect on God's goodness and what Jesus did on the cross and at the empty tomb this weekend. Happy Easter!
