Our forefathers and Founders celebrated a Thanksgiving holiday because whenever they experienced great national or personal success, their immediate reaction was gratitude to God and their fellow Americans. Nowadays, as leftists have created a culture of ingratitude and entitlement, it is more important than ever that we emphasize the virtue behind the holiday.
Of course, leftists have tried to ruin Thanksgiving by renaming it Indigenous Peoples Day. That is especially ironic since the meal considered to be the first American Thanksgiving was specifically a feast where the Pilgrims invited natives to eat with them out of gratitude for the natives’ help with crops. But unfortunately, the anti-Thanksgiving Democrat ethos goes much deeper and further than a stupid misnomer for the holiday.
In almost every policy and piece of propaganda, the Democrat Party encourages both Americans and foreigners who come here to be ungrateful. “People of color” are told they are oppressed, and any benefits they might receive are far and away their due; that in fact, they are always owed more. LGBTQ-identifying individuals are also told that they are oppressed, and that no amount of holidays, events, parades, and school programs in their honor could ever be enough to glorify them.

Children certainly aren’t to be grateful to their parents or grandparents — a good woke activist despises every one of his ancestors for being less enlightened than he. If young people receive good grades or amazing trips or expensive gifts, that is because happiness is their “right.” No student should express gratitude to his teacher — anything that goes wrong, however, is certainly the teacher’s fault and not the student’s.
Women are told to treat men badly if men are chivalrous, and men are told that when they are chivalrous, women are not supposed to be grateful to them. Likewise, men are supposed to condemn women instead of being grateful to them if they prioritize children over a career.
Lowered standards, welfare, participation trophies, segregated graduations, DEI hiring, CRT, Marxism, reparations, BLM, illegal immigration propaganda, victimhood mentality, race-baiting… It’s all a part of the leftist push to make us ungrateful, angry, divided, and bitter.
The Pilgrims and natives in 1621, George Washington in 1789, and Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Josepha Hale in 1863 all valued gratitude so much that they made it the center of a holiday. True, they were all certain they had God-given rights, but they also knew those rights had to be fought for and maintained. And when they did fight a successful battle, they always thanked God and all those who had contributed to the victory.
Without gratitude, there can be no unity, and therefore no peace and prosperity. And if we see all blessings as entitlements, how can we be free? More than anything else, Thanksgiving was always meant to be a holiday expressing gratitude for liberty. To adapt a famous quote of Ben Franklin’s, those who are willing to sacrifice liberty for a temporary handout deserve neither liberty nor handouts.
The antidote to the leftist mind disease is gratitude — not just on one day of the year, but all year round. Teach it to your children and cultivate it yourselves. Because without thankfulness, our country will collapse.
