American inventors, entrepreneurs, writers, and scientists shaped the world for over 100 years. Now with plummeting test scores, everyone is asking how we went from top-tier education to bottom of the barrel. The answer lies with the woke educational establishment.
There are still many qualified and hardworking teachers, but the reality is that the majority of teachers in America now, particularly in public schools, are ignorant, undereducated, and radically leftist. That is even more true of union leaders, school boards, and school administrators. The teachers don’t know what they are supposed to teach to begin with, and many of them are far more interested in inventing new genders and spewing hatred against Jews, Christians, and Republicans than in solving an algebra equation or analyzing Shakespeare.
The H-1B visa controversy has highlighted just how much our elites despise Americans. The argument is always that Americans are just too stupid, that we could not possibly be trained to compete with the rest of the world, even though our technology and innovation are still the wonder of the world. Then again, if many American young people are incompetent, it is because the very elites now criticizing them trained them to be that way by. “Kids aren’t failing because they can’t learn. They’re failing because the adults in charge refuse to teach them,” Moms for Liberty wrote, slamming the corruption and wokeness of the National Education Association (NEA). The group added:

For decades now, parents and teachers have done everything possible to allow and even encourage kids to be lazy, mediocre, ignorant, and entitled. We failed our children. That needs to change now, if we want any future for our republic. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

It is unfortunately true that for at least a century now, socialists and ideologues have been dumbing-down our education system. That is how many a student without a high school degree who learned in a one-room frontier school house in our great-grandparents’ era could now run rings around many a PhD in mental math, literary memorization, historical facts, critical thinking, and much more.
I was fortunate to have a much better education than most American kids, but I have found myself struggling to understand popular satires and songs from the 1700s and 1800s, so full are they of historical and literary references we forgot. Our teachers are overwhelmingly Democrat activists. Are we really surprised their students can’t solve word problems or read a few lines from Longfellow and Dickens?
Moms for Liberty noted that some states have already started to turn the crisis around. While American students overall continue to go down in math and reading scores, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Indiana have managed to bring up their students’ math and reading scores. They raised standards, focused on literacy, reduced classroom distractions, and analyzed real results to understand where they had failed.
Imagine if our schools implemented the model of Booker T. Washington, teaching manual labor and practical skills alongside classical education. Imagine if we had the same standards and expectations as teachers with exponentially less money and fewer resources had at the founding of our nation and in our frontier schools.
Until teachers ditch the Gender Unicorn and Antiracist Baby for grammar books and unbiased biology textbooks, the American educational crisis will continue to get worse.
