MIT closes DEI office, vows to continue all DEI programs under new auspices

In an odd juxtaposition of submission and defiance, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology simultaneously announced the ostensible closure of its DEI office while defending all of its DEI work and pledging to continue the exact same work under new auspices.

Via CNN (emphasis added):

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has announced it will shut down its DEI office, joining a raft of universities scrambling to scale back their diversity, equity and inclusion programs amid President Donald Trump’s push to end those initiatives in US schools.

In a letter posted online last week, MIT President Sally Kornbluth said the institution will “sunset” its Institute Community and Equity Office (ICEO) as well as a vice-president role charged with overseeing inclusion programs.

Kornbluth insisted MIT is not abandoning efforts to ensure a diverse community but said the university will “shift focus to community building at the local level” and that the ICEO’s signature programs will be taken up by other departments on campus.

“MIT is in the talent business. Our success depends on attracting exceptionally talented people of every background, from across the country and around the world, and making sure everyone at MIT feels welcome and supported,” Kornbluth wrote.

A spokesperson for MIT affirmed the school’s “unwavering” commitment to those goals. The spokesperson told CNN that MIT is “in the process of winding down” the ICEO office but didn’t provide a specific timeframe.

Check out how many hedges CNN fits into its article, in service to MIT’s reputation among its liberal constituency: the school is “not abandoning” its racist ethos; the school maintains “unwavering commitment” to DEI; the exact same work, again, that the official DEI office did previously will be delegated to other offices within the university.

In other words, MIT has confessed it is going to change nothing about its disparate treatment of white and Asian students compared to Students of Color™.

Which means it’s primetime for lawsuits from the Trump DOJ.

‘Finesse’

Along the same lines as MIT’s brazen refusal to comply with federal anti-discrimination policy is this lady, Janique Sanders, the University of North Carolina’s “Office of Leadership and Community Engagement” assistant director, is knowingly violating federal anti-discrimination policy:

We've renamed, we've reorganized, we've recalibrated so to speak.

We don't have to call them 'diverse groups of people.' We can just say 'everybody has different stocks of knowledge.

The word of the year is ‘finesse.’

Meanwhile, across the pond…

UK schoolchildren are being treated to a fascinating bit of revisionist DEI history, in that they now learn in public schools, as official parts of the curriculum, that blacks built Stonehenge and Emperor Nero of ancient Rome married a transgender.

Via The Telegraph (emphasis added):

Schoolchildren are being taught that black people built Stonehenge as part of “decolonised” history curriculums, a report has found.

The claim is made in the book “Brilliant Black British History”, which is still used in schools across the country, according to research by Policy Exchange, the think-tank.

Written by Atinuke, the Nigerian-born British author, it says that “Britain was a black country for more than 7,000 years before white people came”.

*A “Nigerian-born British author” — or, in other words, a Nigerian migrant.

For the record, if your theory of the case in terms of transgenderism is that it’s definitely not a mental illness, citing Nero as one of the earliest pioneers of trans acceptance probably isn’t an ideal rhetorical trick.
