If you are keeping running tally of how many lessons the Democrats and progressives have learned since the election, the number still stands at zero.
After spectacularly failing at winning an election via the cool celebrity route, our friends on the left still seem a bit confused about the weight that the words of the performing classes have for the people of America.
The latest example of disconnect came from the bright lights of Broadway. Everyone involved in the wildly successful musical “Hamilton” was on board with Hillary Clinton’s premature coronation:

Well, it certainly seems safe to say that they can be counted among the angst-ridden since November 8. So it was no surprise that they were less than gracious when Vice President-elect Mike Pence went to see a performance on Friday night.
“We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values.”
Hamilton did not throw away its shot at Mike Pence.During Friday night’s curtain call at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Broadway cast addressed the presence of the vice president-elect, who was heavily booed by the audience upon entry.
“Vice president-elect, I see you walking out but I hope you will hear us,” said Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr. He also told the audience, “There’s nothing to boo here, we’re all sharing a story of love.”
“We welcome you, and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical — we really do,” he continued. “We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values, and work on behalf of all of us.”
“We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds and orientations,” Dixon concluded to Pence.
That alarm and anxiety they’re feeling is due largely in part to being uninformed about exactly what Mike Pence does and does not believe, or has advocated for in the past. People who tell ghost stories around a campfire aren’t afraid of real ghosts, of course, it’s just tales they’ve told themselves that get them jumpy.
While most of the reporting of the incident portrayed it as a sincere effort to reach out and voice legitimate concerns when the cast had the chance to speak truth to power, the drooling fans saw it differently.

It truly was more of a “calling out” than anything else. They singled out the vice president-elect and attempted to embarrass him, most likely because they knew they would get the fan reactions they got.

What really happened was a display of intolerance in the name of tolerance, which is pretty much all the left does these days as they practice the politics of demonizing and projection. The audience was booing Pence, the fans on social media were cheering the boos, and the media told a story about it that barely flirted with the truth. This was the formula they thought would propel them to victory in the election, and they seem to be completely unaware that it didn’t work.
The boorish lack of self reflection from the left is already changing some minds. Republicans who didn’t support Trump this year are starting to realize what a bullet the country dodged by not letting the hysteria-mongers cement a foothold in the White House and are beginning to warm up to him before he ever gets in office.
If they keep soothing themselves with the popular vote nonsense, the left may very well continue to double-down on everything that didn’t work for 2016. If so, Trump may not even have to campaign to win re-election in a landslide in 2020 and Pence can probably start on 2024 Oval Office redecorating plans now.
The media and disgruntled voters can swoon all they want over the antics of what they believe to be the vox populi, but here is the stark reality: while they’re giggling and applauding the cast’s rude treatment of Pence, he will still become the second most powerful man in the country thanks to the Electoral College that was Alexander Hamilton’s idea in the first place.
Now that’s something worth cheering about.
