I frequently use phrases like "diaper-filling" and "snot-bubbling" to describe the behavior of Democrats in the Trump era because, quite frankly, all they ever do anymore is throw temper tantrums. As anyone who has ever parented a toddler knows, sometimes you just have to let them cry it out.
When it comes to the current crop of Democrats, I truly hope they keep screeching and bawling for a long time.
Elected Democrats at all levels are embarrassing the country and themselves all over the place. We're currently dealing with the Texas Dems who literally ran away from their jobs. There's a lesson for the kids at home, huh? If you don't like something at work, just leave!
Hey, maybe get a teardrop tattoo and start dealing meth, too.
This behavior comes from the top. Charles Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are leading by poor example from their positions as the minority leaders in the Senate and House, respectively. They're heavy on grandstanding and devoid of any real substance. Jeffries has the toughest gig because he had to follow in the footsteps of Nancy Pelosi. Love her or hate her, Pelosi was one of of the most powerful ever to become Speaker of the House. And she did it twice. Worse yet, she stuck around after she stepped down as Speaker. A lot of Jeffries' flailing — like sitting on the Capitol steps all day on a Saturday with Cory Booker for a sad little protest — comes off as an attempt to get out from the shadow of Big Sis.
Schumer is a classic example of a Dem failing upward. The Senate is full of arcane procedures and rules. The majority and minority leaders need to know how to navigate them and work the system. Mitch McConnell was brilliant in the role and continually ran circles around Schumer. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is less than a year into the job but is already showing that he can easily outclass Schumer, even with a thin majority.
Schumer is given to desperate moves, like trying to extort President Trump this past weekend in return for voting on a few nominees. Trump didn't blink, and Schumer was left with nothing but egg and failure on his face.
These two men should be crafting a coherent vision that their party can follow to success in next year's midterm elections. I should clarify: I meant a vision that seems coherent to the Democrats. Instead, they sit around muttering "impeachment" under their breath and waiting for a rogue member of the judiciary to give them a fleeting moment where they can high five each other.
All they've come up with so far is a whole lotta nothin'.
The Beltway good ol' boy/girl network and love of the status quo should play out well for the Republicans in this case. Neither of these blundering fools are working under any threat of losing their jobs if the Democrats underperform in 2026. They could resign out of shame if that happens, but we know that Dems don't feel that.
I'm here to celebrate and encourage the continued feckless posturing of Charles Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. I also urge their cheerleaders in the mainstream media to continue being dishonest and keep on telling the gentlemen that their can-do #resist attitudes are just what the Democratic Party needs right now.
I can easily handle this tantrum for several more elections.
