Don't Read Too Much Into the Squad's Recent Attrition

Conservatives are taking great delight this primary season in the defeats of Democratic incumbents Jamaal Bowman in New York and Cori Bush in Missouri, both members of the national embarrassment known as the Squad. Many see it as a sign that some Democrats are rejecting the far-far-left lunacy of the Squad.

I've got my contrarian lenses on today and that's not the way I see it at all.

Look, I like anything that causes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her little congressional commie brat pack some angst, but I don't think that the group is being dealt the massive correction that many think it is. It would be wonderful to think that Democrats in some parts of the country are becoming fed up with Squeaky and her pro-Hamas loons, and I wouldn't at all mind being proven wrong about this.

I don't think I will be though.

Let's begin with one localized example of why I'm not reading too much into the situation.

It was a lot of fun watching the odious Jamaal Bowman get issued his walking papers by the Democrats in New York's 16th congressional district. However, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's district abuts Bowman's, and she coasted to a primary victory and will breeze through the general election.

I honestly don't believe that the Democratic congressional hierarchy wants the Squad gone. It's more likely that the Pelosi-level members of the House just want the kids to shut up. There are protocols and a pecking order in Congress that must be observed and respected, even in the often unruly House of Representatives. The Squad showed up and immediately acted like they owned the place, which didn't go over well with the elders of the Democrat village.

It's true that 2019 seems like a thousand years ago now, but I still remember that Nancy Pelosi was not at all pleased with her new, uppity charges back then. Again, it was all about the attitude. There isn't one whit of difference between their positions on the leftist political spectrum.

Long before any of the Squad members were even old enough to vote, the Democratic Party began moving inexorably leftward. The march to the commie cliff picked up speed when His High Holiness the Lightbringer Barack Obama was elected in 2008. The somewhat centrist Blue Dog Democrats were still credible then, but they sold their political viability for Obamacare.

During the Tea Party years, I would frequently say and write that the Democrats had moved so far to the left that they'd pulled the center along with it. Now, a centrist Democrat just means "Commie Lite." Any Democrat with the slightest pretension to centrism gets run out of town like Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.

Another thing I've been preaching for years is that there is almost always a Democrat who's worse waiting in the wings to replace one we on the Right would love to see go. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul would be the perfect example of that. I bet a lot of Republicans and independents in New York are waxing nostalgic for the days of Andrew Cuomo.

So, yeah, I'll toast the departures of Bowman and Bush, but I won't be holding my breath to see if their replacements are any better.
