More Catholics in America Than 50 Years Ago, But Far Fewer Priests and Nuns

This isn’t terribly surprising news, but the precipitous decline in the number of nuns did really strike me by surprise. I suppose I would have noticed it more had my daughter gone to a Catholic elementary school. Lay teachers were a rarity when I was a Catholic schoolboy. Thankfully, there are some dynamic young priests and nuns out there, even if the numbers aren’t big. I’ve been listening to a lot of the podcasts they are doing and will be reviewing them soon.
