Wait a Minute. THIS Group Got $7 Million in Taxpayer Dough?

We have lived in a bizarro world in which up is down and in is out for so long, it can start to seem normal. Of course billions of dollars in taxpayer funds have been going to America’s most vicious and determined enemies. Of course career politicians making $174,000 a year becomes a multimillionaire in short order, and no one thinks twice about it. Of course Joe Biden’s was an autopen presidency in which nameless leftist wonks were making key decisions of state: you wouldn’t want Old Dementia Joe making those decisions, now, would you?

Nevertheless, a recent revelation about one particular misallocation of the public funds is particularly appalling, as the money, a not inconsiderable sum, went to a group that has been a malignant and destructive presence in American public life for three decades now. Even the Justice Department has recognized just how dangerous this group is, and yet the Biden regime, demonstrating once again that it was a traitor class at the helm of our government, forked over the money. (The fatuously self-infatuated will insist that the legal definition of treason has not been reached. Note: I don’t care. I’m talking about betrayal of the public trust here: the people in charge gave aid and comfort to the enemy.)

The New York Post revealed the astonishing news: “A Muslim charity with links to Hamas was awarded more than $7.2 million in taxpayer cash, which has now disappeared, according to a watchdog group. An ‘immediate investigation’ needs to be launched into The Council on American-Islamic Relations’ (CAIR) California chapter’s use of funds, according to the watchdog, who sent a complaint to the Department of Justice Thursday.” The watchdog in question is the Intelligent Advocacy Network (IAN), which the Post describes as “a California-based, non-partisan advocacy group.” And yes, we need an investigation of this that is sooner than immediate.

That’s because the more one learns about this, the worse it looks. IAN says that the money was given to the California chapter of CAIR “to help re-settle impoverished immigrants in California between 2022 and 2024.” Now, wait a minute. The government gave the Council on American-Islamic Relations money “to help re-settle impoverished immigrants”? Why didn’t they give it to Bloomingdale’s, or Hertz Rent-A-Car?

After all, those two have about as much to do with refugee resettlement as CAIR does. CAIR says that it is “America’s largest Muslim civil rights organization.” It adds, straining credulity, that it works to “protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.” Not a word, you’ll notice, about resettling impoverished migrants.

So why was CAIR, of all groups, enjoying this undeserved largesse? In fact, there is no less suitable group to whom this money could have gone, outside of Hamas itself. Nihad Awad, the cofounder and longtime executive director of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), notoriously said that the October 7 jihad massacre of 1,200 Israelis made him “happy.”

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Post noted, with admirable understatement, that “evidence in past court proceedings has shown links between The Council on American-Islamic Relations Foundation Inc. and both Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.” Yeah. In fact, CAIR is an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case — so named by the Justice Department. CAIR officials have repeatedly refused to denounce Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist groups.

Wait, it gets worse. Several former CAIR officials have been convicted of various crimes related to jihad terror. CAIR’s cofounder and longtime Board chairman (Omar Ahmad), as well as its chief spokesman (Ibrahim Hooper), have made Islamic supremacist statements about how Islamic law should be imposed in the U.S. (Ahmad denies this, but the original reporter stands by her story.)

Not surprisingly, CAIR has opposed virtually every anti-terror measure that has been proposed or implemented and has been declared a terror organization by the United Arab Emirates. CAIR’s Hussam Ayloush in 2016, shortly after Donald Trump was first elected president, called for the overthrow of the U.S. government. A woman who has served as CAIR’s national outreach manager is an open supporter of Hamas. A former CAIR official was caught on video in February 2025 saying “I demand jihad” and calling for the killing of Jews.

Isn’t it reassuring to know that this is the group that your government thought was deserving of seven million dollars? IAN has called for an “immediate investigation” into CAIR, and such an investigation can’t come a moment too soon.
