Actors make their living by becoming someone they are not. As a result, the vast majority of them are not exactly well balanced emotionally and psychologically. Most of the world recognizes this, and it is not problematic; we enjoy seeing them entertain and move us emotionally.
Occasionally, some actors really are balanced and ultimately get out of the world of acting, becoming directors, producers, businessmen, and sometimes even politicians. But as a general rule, we all understand that the majority of actors really are not that well educated; believe the propaganda that they spout; and are more concerned with getting a starring role than they are with actually learning about geopolitics, theology, philosophy, or any serious study.
For some reason, this seems to be even more true with actors who get successful by being in tentpole action movies, where they don't even portray actual human beings. Which brings us to the stars of the Marvel action movies, over 20 of whom are now campaigning for the release from prison of one of the most notorious murderers and terrorists of the last fifty years, Marwan Barghouti.
Case in point: Mark Ruffalo. The actor who portrays the Hulk for Marvel is said to be worth over $35 million, which is actually a poor reflection of his business acumen given that he makes between 10 and 15 million dollars per Marvel film. Suffering from both dyslexia and ADHD, he barely graduated high school and did not attend college, and has great emotional and personal courage to overcome the struggles that he has and to memorize scripts. All of which combine to make him entertaining and fun to watch in his many roles, from the Hulk to Now You See Me. Ruffalo is a fine actor and deserves the many accolades he has received for the practice of his craft.
But he is also the perfect example of a hypocritical ignoramus when it comes to anything outside of his acting abilities, and most especially, with his entire lack of understanding about politics, his ignorance of history, and especially his extremely vocal opinions about Israel and the Middle East, based on no research or study, but entirely on the propaganda that has been fed to him through media sources.
Most recently, Ruffalo has been passionate in his hatred for Israel, and demonstrates all of the characteristics of the typical antisemite. I do not know what is in his heart, and I do not claim to. But his actions, especially his recent attacks on the Ellison family and the potential merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers, have not been based on business, but rather on the hatred of a Jewish family and of Israel.
Ruffalo objects to the merger, and as an actor, there are probably a lot of good reasons for him to do so. But he has hung his hat not on any business concept, but on the objection that the Ellison Family are “oligarchs” who support and help cause genocide and apartheid. When Paramount responded that there is no place for that type of antisemitic trope in business discussions, Ruffalo doubled down on his hatred for Israel while at the same time saying that he is not an antisemite.
The actor actually knows nothing about Israel other than what he learned through a Palestinian propaganda film called Palestine 36. Not only has Ruffalo never been to Israel, but he has also refused offers to come visit the Holy Land. He has no understanding of the actual history of the region; the fact that the concept of Palestine as a nation was not even invented until 1964; has no theological understanding of the Quran or Islam (he grew up in a Baha’i/Christian household); has ignored the evils of Hamas in preference of condemning Israel's actions of self-defense and rescuing hostages; and yet still chooses to mimic the fallacies that he learned through a propaganda film.
And he, and his Marvel colleagues, clearly have no idea about the depth of evil that is personified in Marwan Barghouti.
Barghouti, whom many people believe would become leader of the Palestinian Authority were he to be released from prison, is one of the most evil terrorists of the last fifty years. One of the leaders of the first Intifada, he was captured and imprisoned for the murder of at least five people shortly after the second Intifada began in 2002. He was the founder of the Fatah Youth Movement in 1974 at the age of 15; was the leader of Tanzim, the military activists of Fatah in 2000; and founded the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, which was responsible for over 100 deaths by homicide bombs, shootings, and bomb attacks, and which is designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the European Union, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States.
In 2004, he was accused of 26 counts of murder and convicted on five, as well as attempted murder with a car bomb. Barghouti was not convicted on the other counts as there was only indirect evidence linking them to him, as opposed to clear, direct evidence. He is currently serving his sentence of five cumulative life sentences for the murders and an additional 40 years, consisting of 20 years each for attempted murder and for membership and activity in a terrorist organization.
Since being a teenager, Barghouti has been a leader in violent actions, including homicide bombings, against Israel and its citizens, is indirectly responsible for hundreds of deaths and has been convicted of being directly responsible for at least five murders.
And this is the terrorist that Mark Ruffalo would like to have released. At the same time, he accuses Paramount Pictures, the Ellison family, and Israel of committing genocide and apartheid. Again, I do not know what is in his heart, but his actions are those of a classic Jew-hater.
Ruffalo’s comments calling Israel an apartheid nation demonstrate even more ignorance. He is clearly unaware of the integrated society that is so rich in Israel, where Jews, Christians, Muslims, Baha’is, Druze, and more live peacefully together. His accusations of genocide against Israel show a complete ignorance of even the United Nations definition of genocide.
But ignorance is never an excuse for stupidity, for Ruffalo could easily learn about the actual history of the region. If reading is too difficult, he could spend time in talks and lectures with anyone who is an actual historian. I am sure that Douglas Murray, Ben Shapiro, Professor Alan Dershowitz, myself, or any number of people would be willing to spend time educating this actor in the real history and political dynamics of the region.
That is, if he isn’t actually an antisemite and seeks to really learn the truth.
Mark, the truth is like the lesson in your Now You See Me films: Just because you see something in a propaganda film does not make it true. And if it is not yet clear, I invite you to personally come with me to Israel or to spend time on The Rabbi’s Table and learn the truth about Israel, the actual history of the region, and Marwan Barghouti.
It is your choice, Mr. Ruffalo, and your choice will clearly define whether you are a man who hates Jews or a man who has just fallen into the illusion of propaganda and is ignorant. Ignorance can be cured; Jew-hatred is just despicable.
Mark Ruffalo’s call: to be the Hulk smashing things he doesn’t understand or to be Dr. Bruce Banner, who seeks the truth.
