Georgia isn’t known as one of the more progressive states in the union, and for a reason. The Peach State is notoriously resistant to change, especially when that change comes from the far left of the political spectrum. It’s a red state that’s damn proud of being a red state, after all.
That’s what makes the story of a 6th-grade health class quiz on sexual identity so surprising.
The DeKalb County School District in Georgia is facing backlash after a “sexual identity” assignment was given to the sixth graders of Lithonia Middle School.
The middle school’s health teacher assigned a quiz that defined 10 “sexual identity” terms, such as gay, lesbian, and transgender. The quiz required the sixth graders to identify and differentiate between various sexual orientations and identities, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
One mother, Octavia Parks, was particularly shocked when her 12-year-old daughter came home with the assignment.
“Why are they teaching that in school?” Parks said. “What does that have to do with life?”
Parks felt that the material was not appropriate for school, and that her daughter was too young to learn about sexual orientation.
Parks also notes that she’d had a conversation with the health teacher who assured her that nothing like this was being taught.
Looks like someone was less than honest.
The Dekalb County School District issued a statement saying it was looking into the veracity of the event and would be investigating, but it made no mention as to whether or not such a thing was approved or not. However, if this is part of the standard curriculum, it seems likely they wouldn’t be investigating.
Still, it’s not difficult to believe this actually happened, even in Georgia.
Too many teachers believe it’s their duty to indoctrinate students into their way of thinking, especially if the children’s parents are against it. These teachers believe they have a higher calling, a calling to condition children to their way of thinking over and above what they’re actually paid to teach.
When teachers like this one get the opportunity, they will impart any information they want. They figure the parents will never know. After all, how many parents actually talk to their kids about what they’re learning?
Regardless of what kind of school your children attend, make sure you know what they’re learning. If you homeschool, that’s easy, but if not then you need to talk to your children. Even private schools aren’t immune to such things, after all. Talk to your kids and listen to what they’re learning so you can be prepared and know the facts.
