As Michael Phelps swam his way to his 19th Olympic gold medal yesterday in Rio, someone else was stealing his spotlight: his infant son, Boomer.
His nearly three-month-old baby boy sat with mom (Phelps’ fiancée, Nicole Johnson) in the stands to support dad for his 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay, which is a team event. Boomer was clad in an American flag-themed baby carrier with his daddy’s initials on it and wore the most adorable patriotic noise-canceling headphones ever. As little babies do, though, Boomer fell fast asleep just as Phelps emerged from the pool after his race. The excitement was far too much for him to handle.

Phelps was ecstatic to have his new family watch from the stands. From E! News, here’s what he had to say:
“To have our first-born be able to watch—I’ll say this just, in case I come back—my potential last Olympics,” he said during a press conference. “Just so you guys don’t beat me to death if I come back, I’m just going to say that: To have him watch the potential last races of my career is something I look forward to being able to share with him.”
