WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Joe Biden, the 2020 Democratic presidential frontrunner, said he plans on winning Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas and Florida in the general election if he is the Democratic nominee.
President Trump won each of those states in the 2016 presidential election against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“It’s a marathon. It’s a long way off. You may recall, Reverend, I’m the only person who went and campaigned in an off-year election for the senator in Alabama. I was the only person invited down there to speak — not the only one but I was the only one who wasn’t a person of color who was invited down,” Biden said on Monday at the Poor People’s Campaign presidential forum.
“I spent a lot of time campaigning in North Carolina and in Texas and around the country. I have no intention of walking away if I’m the nominee, and if I’m not the nominee, I have no intention of walking away and trying to help whoever the nominee is to win those states,” he added.
Biden also pledged to eliminate the Republican tax reform package implemented under President Trump. The tax reform legislation included across-the-board cuts to individual tax rates as well as a reduction in the corporate tax rate for businesses from 35 percent to 21 percent.
