Women's Lacrosse Team Under Fire for Liking Trump Tweet

The women’s lacrosse team at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County is under fire, and not because people just don’t understand lacrosse. They’re catching flak because the team’s Twitter account liked a tweet. The tweet read, “Courageous Patriots have fought and died for our great American Flag—we MUST honor and respect it! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

It turns out that the tweet was from President Donald Trump.

From Campus Reform:

The University of Maryland-Baltimore County Women’s Lacrosse team has been labelled “racist” and “ignorant” after the team’s Twitter account “liked” a tweet by President Donald Trump.

“Courageous Patriots have fought and died for our great American Flag—we MUST honor and respect it! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the tweet by President Trump reads.

UMBC’s Black Student Union (BSU) noticed that “UMBC WLacrosse” had “liked” Trump’s post, and responded by calling the team out on its own Twitter account.

“You’re welcome to come to a meeting and voice your Ignorance and blatant disregard for students within your campus let alone your own team,” the group captioned screenshots of the offending like.

“So in liking that tweet you are 1- saying that your black counterparts don’t deserve to protest. @umbcwlacrosse As well as, 2- saying the black people on your team don’t care about racial injustice. If you are going to be racist please come correct,” UMBC BSU continued.

And that last bit really sums everything up, doesn’t it?

Time and time again, leftists assume that anyone who disagrees with them is racist. They can’t comprehend that people may believe this is the wrong way to protest racism or any of a myriad of other possibilities. Nope, it’s gotta be racism.

Now, I’ll grant that this is probably something the team’s Twitter account should have avoided, if for no other reason than the desperate need for the separation of sports and politics.

What bothers me is the idea that thinking you should stand for the flag and the National Anthem is racist. I mean, what about the black players who have refused to kneel? Are they racist?

Perhaps some folks agree that athletes should stand for the National Anthem because they simply don’t see how any good can come from angering a large chunk of the American population. For the record, implying racism? Not really great for encouraging folks to support your side either.
