NYC Mayor Joins Chorus of Crazed Democrats Trying to Lose the 2020 Election

Democrats are determined to outdo one-another with one ridiculous proclamation after the next. Chief “Full of Bull” Warren promised to take money from those of us who paid for school to pay off student loans for millennial deadbeats. (I might agree to pay for 1/1024th of student loan debt if the students could name the three branches of government without using Google.)  Bernie Sanders wants to let the Boston Marathon bomber vote from prison (because it’s highly likely that psychopaths are Democrat voters); Kamala Harris (descendant of actual slave owners) and Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (the whitest “Hispanic” anyone’s ever seen) say they will take money from people who never owned slaves and give it to people who have never been enslaved. A bunch of Democrats passed late-term abortion laws in a handful of states with more to come, disgusting the whole nation. Now, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is clearly positioning himself to join the ranks of the pandering Democrat presidential hopefuls, has issued the most absurd proclamation of all. He’s going to ban skyscrapers… in New York City.

“We are going to introduce legislation to ban the classic glass and steel skyscrapers that have contributed so much to global warming. They have no place in our city or our Earth anymore,” he spat into a microphone while several people standing behind him looked visibly confused and dismayed.

After checking to make sure I wasn’t being punked, I immediately ran to my bookshelf to pull down my well-worn copy of The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, sure that this plotline was in there. I was right: “The age of the skyscraper is gone. This is the age of the housing project. Which is always a prelude to the age of the cave.”

It’s more than a little terrifying to follow their plan to its natural conclusion, which is everyone living in Hobbit hovels with only tallow candles for light. All this “green” panic accompanied by the Democrat War on Energy is leading back to the literal Dark Ages. Rand saw it coming. In a little known novella called Anthem, Rand wrote of a dystopian post-skyscraper world.

But we must never speak of the times before the Great Rebirth, else we are sentenced to three years in the Palace of Corrective Detention. It is only the Old Ones who whisper about it in the evenings, in the Home of the Useless. They whisper many strange things, of the towers which rose to the sky, in those Unmentionable Times, and of the wagons which moved without horses, and of the lights which burned without flame. But those times were evil. And those times passed away, when men saw the Great Truth which is this: that all men are one and that there is no will save the will of all men together.

We are witnessing the attempt to convince us that the modern conveniences and the energy that lifted millions out of poverty and want are “evil.” For all must be afeard of the great specter of global destruction caused by intangible “carbon emissions” as prophesied by Al Gore, or something. Never mind that Gore’s Doomsday Clock ran out a couple years ago with no visible doom anywhere. Not to be deterred, newbie Alexandria Occasional-Cortex has started a new one and we have been given an extra twelve years to solve this looming catastrophe. Whew!

Rand always had lots to say about skyscrapers. To her, they symbolized the height of human accomplishment. In The Virtue of Selfishness she wrote,

America’s greatness lies in the fact that her actual monuments are not public. The skyline of New York is a monument of a splendor that no pyramids or palaces will ever equal or approach. But America’s skyscrapers were not built by public funds nor for a public purpose: they were built by the energy, initiative and wealth of private individuals for personal profit. And, instead of impoverishing the people, these skyscrapers, as they rose higher and higher, kept raising the people’s standard of living—including the inhabitants of the slums, who lead a life of luxury compared to the life of an ancient Egyptian slave or of a modern Soviet Socialist worker. Such is the difference—both in theory and practice—between capitalism and socialism.”

Going back to The Fountainhead, it appears Rand shared President Trump’s disdain of sh*tholes, preferring instead, glittering towers.

I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York’s skyline. Particularly when one can’t see the details. Just the shapes. The shapes and the thought that made them. The sky over New York and the will of man made visible. What other religion do we need? And then people tell me about pilgrimages to some dank pesthole in a jungle where they go to do homage to a crumbling temple, to a leering stone monster with a pot belly, created by some leprous savage. Is it beauty and genius they want to see? Do they seek a sense of the sublime? Let them come to New York, stand on the shore of the Hudson, look and kneel. When I see the city from my window, no, I don’t feel how small I am, but I feel that if a war came to threaten this, I would throw myself into space, over the city, and protect these buildings with my body.

But let’s ignore someone who escaped from Soviet tyranny and tear down those towers because some twenty-year-old bartender with crazy eyes says it’s the only way to save humanity from itself. Sure. Are the Democrats trying to lose 2020? It sure seems that way. How many normies (read: people who live in the flyover states) really think that reparations for slavery, excusing student loans for lazy millennials, and tearing down skyscrapers are the major issues that must be addressed in their lives? Or perhaps they’re more concerned with getting blown up at Easter service by ISIS or hit and killed by a drunk illegal alien who shouldn’t have been let over the border in the first place? I think it’s the latter. But go on with your bad selves, Democrats. The salty tears will flow again while we all point and laugh. Are you ready for that? It’s coming.
