The Morning Briefing: RIP 41, Paris is Burning, Comey to Testify and Much, Much More

Protesters angry about rising taxes clashed with French police for a third straight weekend and over 100 were arrested after pockets of demonstrators built barricades in the middle of streets in central Paris, lit fires and threw rocks at officers Saturday. LORDY: Comey will testify

After filing a suit to quash a congressional subpoena, his holiness James Comey will indeed testify at a closed-door hearing this week.

“Grateful for a fair hearing from judge. Hard to protect my rights without being in contempt, which I don’t believe in. So will sit in the dark, but Republicans agree I’m free to talk when done and transcript released in 24 hours,” Comey tweeted from his account. “This is the closest I can get to public testimony.”

Former President GHW Bush dies

The former president (41) passed away peacefully at home on Friday at a respectable 94-years-old. The media is gushing over GHWB, just gushing over him, because, you know, he was a good one. A good Republican, not like the one we have now, who is a barbarian and a pig. But back in the day, the media hated Bush 1 too, just like they hated W. and Romney and McCain when they threatened Democrat power. In case you don’t remember the story, the media ran a false story about GHWB, claiming he was AMAZED at the crazy, wild new supermarket technology when he walked into a mock grocery store at a trade show. He was so surprised at the magical machines because he’s out of touch with the normal Americans, you see, and doesn’t do things like grocery shop as the poors do. “This is a story that is totally media-manufactured and maintained,” said Bush 41 press sec Marlin Fitzwater. The media has always been a bunch of ankle-biting guttersnipes, don’t you forget it.

So, as you read all these glowing media stories, remember that the media treated Bush 41 like sh!t just like all the other GOPers, who are only praised when they are bashing other Republicans. It drove me nuts this weekend to follow the media vanguard talking about what a great, honorable man GHWB was when the media spent years trashing him. Piss off, media. You are using GHWB to bash Trump now. We know you had no respect or affection for him.

Wait a moment, I must have missed this from Politico: Is History Being Too Kind to George H.W. Bush? The 41st president put self-interest over principle time and time again. Now that’s more like it.

Oh, what’s that in my eye…

Riots in France

Seems important, no?

So there’s been some rioting in France — the worst rioting in more than a decade.

Paris police said 133 people were injured, including 23 police officers, as crowds trashed the streets of the capital Saturday. Officers fired tear gas and used water cannon to tamp down the violence as protesters torched cars, smashed windows, looted stores and tagged the Arc de Triomphe with spray paint.

Paris police Prefect Michel Delpuech said some officers described encountering “unprecedented” violence, including protesters using hammers, gardening tools, bolts, aerosol cans as well as rocks in physical confrontations.

Some radical far-right and far-left activists were involved in the riot, as well as a “great number” of protesters wearing yellow jackets, Delpuech said. The fluorescent jackets, which French motorists are required to have in their cars for emergencies, are an emblem of a grassroots citizens’ movement protesting fuel taxes.

Fires were started at six buildings and more than 130 makeshift barricades and 112 vehicles were torched, Delpuech said. Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz said 378 people remained in police custody as of Sunday evening, 33 of them minors.

The rioters are unhappy with their president, who is much, much loved by the media elite because he’s sort of good looking in a Eurotrash way, but also married to an older woman. That the people he governs are unhappy with his performance doesn’t matter so much to the global elitists.

“It’s difficult to reach the end of the month. People work and pay a lot of taxes and we are fed up,” said Rabah Mendez, a protester who marched peacefully Saturday in Paris.

I think we can all agree with that, my French brother.
