The Democrats went all-in to defend deported gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, but their efforts were severely undermined when the Trump administration released proof of his gang affiliation and evidence that he beat his wife and was involved in human trafficking. That’s when they pivoted to pretending that their issue was less about Garcia and more about due process. But make no mistake: their bellyaching has nothing to do with due process.
“I am not defending the man. I’m defending the rights of this man to due process,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) claimed earlier this month. “And the Trump administration has admitted in court that he was wrongfully detained and wrongfully deported.”
Of course, none of that is true. Kilmar Abrego Garcia got plenty of due process — years of it, in fact. His rap sheet and run-ins with law enforcement go back well before his deportation, including multiple arrests tied to suspected gang activity. But what really grinds my gears is the Democrats’ sudden act of pretending they care about due process. This is the same party that stood by while January 6 defendants were thrown into solitary confinement and stripped of basic legal protections. Now they want to play the role of justice’s guardian? Give me a break.
The hypocrisy doesn’t get more brazen than this.
Hundreds of American citizens, many just caught up in the chaos or who just happened to be on the Capitol grounds that day, were rounded up, slapped with charges, and thrown into D.C.’s gulag-like jails. There were no speedy trials, not even bail for many, just endless pretrial detention in conditions that would make a Third World dictator blush. Where were these Democrat crusaders then, demanding due process for their fellow citizens?

Oh, right—they were too busy calling J6 defendants “insurrectionists” and cheering as the Biden DOJ turned the screws.
But it goes way deeper than that. Democrats have never cared about due process. Rep. Maxine Waters once demanded that Donald Trump be locked in solitary confinement without a trial. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in 2019, said she didn’t want Trump impeached; she wanted him in prison.
Due process? Only when it suits their narrative. Only for illegal immigrant gang members.
Why the double standard? It’s simple: Democrats don’t care about justice; they care about power. Garcia’s case is a shiny new toy to bash Trump and rally their base, while J6 defendants were just collateral damage in their war on Trump. Why defend American citizens when you can score points with a sob story about a deported migrant who happens to be a gang member who was involved in human trafficking and beat his wife?
The evidence is glaring. Democrats pushed for Garcia’s return after a Supreme Court order to “facilitate” it, yet ignored the J6 defendants’ pleas for fair treatment.
So, what’s next? Will Democrats keep parading their selective outrage, hoping we’ll forget the way they denied due process rights for American citizens? Don’t hold your breath for accountability—they’re too busy booking their next flight to El Salvador.
