Nothing can stop the heart of a parent more than your child being in any kind of danger. Now imagine your child is peacefully sitting in a car and that car is stolen. What do you do? I’m sure the chain of events is something along the lines of:
- You panic
- You call the police
- You’re questioned by the police
- An Amber Alert is issued
- You sit around, terrified, not knowing what will happen as time slows to a crawl
Last week, a mother in Ft. Lauderdale had the unimaginable happen: her blue Chevrolet Cruze was stolen by a “20-year-old man wearing a dark long-sleeved jacket or shirt, blue jeans and Timberland boots” with her 10-month-old daughter still in the car. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending: the daughter was found not long after the car-jacking.
In a separate incident, a 3-year-old girl was kidnapped from a Cleveland gas station. Fox8.com reported:
The car was left running in the gas station parking lot at East 30th and Carnegie Avenues in Cleveland. The child’s uncle went into the gas station to pay for gas with the child inside and keys in ignition.
The toddler was found 10 minutes later walking on Broadway. The child told police that there were three men in the car with her. She is being checked by EMS but appears unharmed.
These incidents beg a very important question: Why in the world would you leave your baby in the car? Luckily in both of these cases, the children were unharmed. But perhaps it would be wise to take your child with you when you exit your vehicle…
