WASHINGTON – Demonstrators at today’s March for Life called on President Trump to nominate a pro-life Supreme Court justice and work with Congress to stop sending taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood.
Hundreds of thousands of people from around the country gathered at the march, which began just before noon on the National Mall by the Washington Monument. PJM asked some of the attendees to name the No. 1 issue they hope President Trump tackles in office with respect to their cause.
Dr. Norbert Myslinski, holding a flag that read “God is Love,” told PJM the “best thing” Trump could do for the pro-life movement is to choose a justice who will fight for the right to life.
“The justice I think has in some cases more power than the president on this issue. I mean, public opinion is outstanding and it has a lot of power and the president is more of that, but as far as the laws go that is, I think, one of the best things he can do,” Myslinski said.
Sarah from Florida also said the Supreme Court is the No. 1 issue for the pro-life movement at this time. Trump is expected to announce his nominee next week.
“I decided to come to the rally because I feel like we’ve been living in a culture of death and that we need to be living with life and where life is respected and cared for, and all the voiceless children will have a voice today here,” she said.
Her friend added that young pro-life activists “are the voice for the voiceless and we are defending our constitutional rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Tony Manning of Ohio told PJM he wants to see Trump nominate justices who “follow the Constitution, and if states want to have [abortion] let them have it – if other states don’t want it, then they don’t have it.”
Dominic Maiolino of Pennsylvania, who wore a “Make America Great Again” hat to the march, said he wants Trump to make America pro-life again.
“I want him to nominate a great Supreme Court justice, just as good as Justice Scalia. I want him to try to get all of the funding away from Planned Parenthood,” he said.
Glorya Jordan from Virginia, who held a sign that said “Black Lives Matter, The Born and The Pre-Born,” said Trump and Congress should cut off Planned Parenthood’s federal funding.
“African-Americans especially are being killed faster than they are being born, and unfortunately a lot of people don’t realize this especially within the African-American community,” she said. “We just don’t even realize we are killing ourselves faster than we are being born, and oftentimes Planned Parenthood is placed especially within urban communities. It’s targeting our kids and our families and it’s time for it to stop.”
A woman at the march who declined to be identified but agreed to a video interview said Planned Parenthood should not be publicly funded since it is the largest abortion provider in the nation.
“All these things they claim are not related to abortion that taxpayer dollars are going to, they are things that are connected to the abortion procedure,” she said.
Manning agreed that Planned Parenthood should not be given federal tax dollars.
“Democrats are the most generous with other people’s money,” he said.
