President Donald Trump scoffed at the “bluster” and “failed policies” of Canadian politicians after the collapse of trade negotiations between Canada and the United States.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is now threatening to cut off electricity and mineral supplies to U.S. locations, as Ontario helps provide power to around 1.5 million U.S. homes and businesses, according to The National Pulse. What he’s really doing is highlighting the necessity of not being dependent on Canada for anything. We have plenty of our own oil, gas, and minerals, so why not prioritize our own production?

Trump posted on Truth Social Monday, “Lots of ‘bluster’ from Doug Ford, who is the Premier of the Canadian Province of Ontario, but who is better known as the less charismatic, intelligent, and overall unimpressive brother of the late, great, Rob Ford. America has been carrying Canada for decades, but no longer! The U.S.A. will always be far bigger, richer, and stronger than Canada.” Rob Ford is the late mayor of Toronto.

Canada is the second-biggest goods and services partner for the U.S., according to the Congressional Research Service. But “Canada exported 73% of its goods to, and imported 46% of its goods from, the United States.” In contrast, the one area where it seems we might be considered dependent on Canada is energy, and we are perfectly capable of stepping up our own energy production.

Also, while Canada is a major source of foreign investment, what America really needs to be doing is scaling back foreign investment, not encouraging it. Trump is right to note that they need us a lot more than we need them.

Indeed, as Trump emphasized, “Without the United States, Canada couldn’t survive — It’s where they get all of their money and, because of their current bad leadership, primarily Governor [Prime Minister Mark] Carney, and his Flunky, Ford, they will not be allowed to keep taking advantage of the United States — Their key to survival. Remember, much of the Electricity, Oil, and Gas that Canada gets is transported through the U.S.A.” Trump often mocks Carney by calling him governor of the 51st state.

Trump warned, “Someone should get these clowns to ‘fall in line’ or, the consequences for Canada will be far WORSE! Canada’s Unemployment Rate is now at 10%, and rapidly rising. Their businesses are fleeing for the United States, and it’s all because of their failed policies, and inept leadership! The days of ripping off our Farmers, and other Businesses, are OVER! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The president is planning to impose 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods as of January 1, if the Canadian politicians do not stop making unreasonable demands upon America. Canadians have for years been imposing extortionate tariffs on American goods, including a long-standing tariff of 250% or above on certain American dairy products. They just like a system where we don’t impose any reciprocal tariffs.

But Trump is not going to be a doormat for Canadians the way previous presidents have been. It’s time the tariff system becomes less egregiously rigged against Americans.

Editor's Note: President Trump is fighting to renew America this 250th birthday year.
