Ivy League Schools Aren’t What They Used to Be

A new report on a high school where almost every student fails math but numerous students have made it into an elite California university highlights the fact that Ivy League schools simply don’t carry the clout they used to. They might still have the fame and the history, but you might as well save the money and not send your kids to woke propaganda mills that care more about skin color and Communism than about excellence and objective results.

The New York Post is highlighting Mission High School in San Francisco, which had a 45% acceptance rate into the elite University of California, Berkeley, as 34 out of its 76 applicants succeeded last fall in gaining admission. This was way above the state average of 15%. But, the Post noted, there’s a huge problem:

Only 17% of Mission High’s 11th graders scored proficient or above in English, along with a shocking 6% in math on the 2025 state assessment exam, the lowest of any school in the San Francisco Unified School District — which averaged 59% and 43%, respectively.

San Francisco resident Liz Le is among many who have noted the academically rigorous Lowell High School, where around 71% met math standards, has a lower acceptance rate in the University of California system than Mission High.

I remember once talking with a dad who was terrified of exposing the harsh persecution an expensive (woke) private school was inflicting on the man’s child because the father was so determined not to jeopardize his kid’s chance at getting into an Ivy League university. Apparently it was more important for the child to have an absolutely miserable experience throughout high school and college, learn almost nothing useful, and graduate with a degree from a famous college than go somewhere that was less famous but more rational and meritocratic. This point of view is ridiculous.

There are certain programs at Ivy League and other prestigious universities — and certain professors — that are still top-notch, but the majority of people who are getting degrees from Harvard, Columbia, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, UC Berkeley, and other big-name universities are coming out with very few useful skills, almost no useful knowledge, and an extremely warped view of the world.

There are students with nearly perfect ACT scores and 4.0 GPAs turned down at universities that welcome in students who can barely read or write, all because of skin color, sex, or immigration status. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ketanji Brown Jackson are internationally infamous for their idiocy and inability to understand basic political, legal and economic concepts, yet one graduated from Boston University, the other from Harvard. Sonia Sotomayor is a Yale graduate, Barack Obama is a graduate of Harvard and Columbia University, and both have made careers out of misunderstanding or ignoring the laws while wrecking this country.

Last year, Harvard was offering remedial math. The Federalist reported this year on a growing crisis of illiterate students at prestigious universities. There are university students who cannot get through a reading assignment of 20 pages. I went to a tiny Catholic college almost no one ever heard of, and I would regularly get over 100 pages of reading a week for each class. Given that I was still receiving assignments easier than most university admissions tests from a couple centuries ago, I assumed this was normal and perfectly reasonable. Apparently I was mistaken.

There are still colleges and programs that are rigorous and worthwhile, but most of them are not at elite universities. Ivy League institutions are crumbling under the weight of wokeness and idiotic admissions standards.
