The Muslim fasting season of Ramadan has begun, this year starting on the same day as Christian Lent, Ash Wednesday. And as usual — quite in contrast to Lent — Muslim jihadis around the world are determined to turn Ramadan into a “month of jihad.”
Muslims regard Ramadan not only as a month of religious fasting, but a time of military victories over non-Muslims, as the demon-god Allah supposedly rewards their "piety." These include the Battle of Badr in the seventh century, the conquest of Mecca soon after, the taking of Andalusia in the eighth century, and Egypt's Yom Kippur War against Israel in 1973, as the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) describes. Modern jihadis around the world therefore always use Ramadan as an excuse to step up their brutal and bloody jihad attacks. Allah commands the killing of non-Muslims, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of jihadis love to have justification for indulging their most bestial desires.
In Azerbaijan, for example, the Iranian regime-backed Islamic Resistance Movement declared this Ramadan "will be a herald of victory," according to a MEMRI translation. Speaking of which, the Islamic State or ISIS weekly enthusiastically assures its bloodthirsty followers that if you observe Ramadan in accord with strict Islamic precepts, it will lead to "victories and conquests." And over in Mali, an Al-Qaeda affiliate declared during a new lecture series that "Ramadan is a month of jihad," per MEMRI. As for Jerusalem, the U.S. Embassy is warning government employees not to visit the Old City — as in the part of the city with walls and buildings that pre-exist Islam by centuries — during Fridays in Ramadan. As someone who has been caught in the stampede of Muslims to their Al-Aqsa mosque compound on a Friday in Jerusalem, with arguments breaking out between Israeli soldiers and Muslim men, I understand why.
