Robert the Bruce: The King Who Crusaded After His Death

A famous king and Scottish national hero went on Crusade after his death. His burning desire to inspire service to God by fighting Muslims is an excellent example for us today as masses of Muslim men invade Western nations through illegal immigration.

Robert the Bruce, who died on June 7, fought valiantly and successfully for Scottish independence from the ever-encroaching British in the early 14th century, and is most famous for his victory against a numerically superior force at the Battle of Bannockburn. But because his focus was so constantly on achieving and protecting Scottish independence, Robert, a devout Catholic, never achieved his dream of going on Crusade to the Holy Land to fight the tyrannical Muslim intruders there. So he asked his friend to take his preserved heart with him on Crusade. That’s exactly what happened, and it is a fascinating example of how love of freedom and faith can spur a stand against both political and religious oppression.

Robert the Bruce was very passionate in the cause of political liberty from ambitious invaders, yet he also understood that religion is most important, and that Europe and the Holy Land faced a devastating threat from the evil religion of Islam. If only Scottish and British leaders could be as clear-sighted today — but not only is Scotland no longer independent, but the UK seems to be heading toward complete takeover by Islam within the near future.

Sir James Douglas took the heart of the deceased Scottish king and wore it around his neck as he rode into battle against Muslim Moors in Spain. Douglas was unfortunately killed, but according to legend, before he died, he threw Bruce’s heart toward the bloodthirsty Moors and cried, “Lead on, brave heart, I’ll follow.”

(And yes, if you’re wondering, Robert the Bruce was the Scottish hero traditionally named “Braveheart,” though Mel Gibson appropriated the title for his movie on the other famed Scottish warrior William Wallace.)

We could certainly use warriors such as Robert the Bruce and Douglas today. London is majority Muslim, the Irish people are filling the streets in protest at the vast numbers of Muslim illegal aliens brought into their country, Muslim migrants are causing sexual crimes to shoot up in Germany, Islamists are committing antisemitic terrorism in the United States, and politicians and academics across the Western world praise Islam and denigrate Judeo-Christianity. And yet, historically, every country that has allowed in a majority or strong minority of Muslims has turned into a sharia nightmare. Europe is committing cultural and demographic suicide, and the U.S. isn’t too far behind.

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It is imperative that we learn the lesson history teaches us about the dangers of having large numbers of Muslims in our countries, since their religion explicitly commands rape, murder, pedophilia, and other evils. Send the Islamists back where they came from. The brave heart leads us from across the centuries — if we would see Western civilization survive, we must follow.
