Wokeism Insists on Ruining Every Possible Sport

What do shamrocks, stick fighting, transgenders, and Marxist academics have in common? Well, nothing, really, but that isn’t stopping Towson University.

Boxing, football, basketball, track and field … what sport has not been tainted by the woke poison, either because athletes insist on putting their own leftist political views front and center or because biological men are allowed to compete against women? It turns out there’s yet another sport to ruin in yet another woke way. Maryland’s Towson University is to blame.

Towson’s Center for Student Diversity and the Counseling Center hosted “Building Trans Community: Self Defense” on March 27. If you have a strong stomach, read on:

Coach Cu' McCann (he/him) will lead us in self-defense techniques. Coach Cu' is an instructor in the Doyle family style of bataireacht - a traditional martial art from Ireland. His classes center queer people but/and are open to all who fight by our side. Together, we'll build confidence, learn essential safety skills, and empower each other to stand strong in the face of adversity.

Presumably, at least some of these mental cases take themselves seriously, though it’s hard to believe. Indeed, they have reached a point of such insanity and inanity that it is difficult not to laugh, but despite the humor, it is disturbing that people like this are really in the highest levels of academia and government. Talk about the inmates running the asylum.

While I value the education I received from my private Catholic college highly, I begin to wonder whether it is valuable to send youth to university at all, except for a small handful of colleges that still offer classical-style education. It is certainly true, of course, regardless of any other circumstances, that we ought to be teaching young people more about trades and skills like carpentry and sewing, but it begins to seem as if opting for university is nearly always a decision with more negative than positive consequences.

Part of the problem, of course, is that so many jobs require college degrees that shouldn’t do so (like journalism, the military, and teaching grade school). Thus, any young American seeking to enter those careers must earn that very expensive degree. There are many contributing factors to the educational crisis in America, including federal government meddling, Marxist infiltration of our institutions, worship of mere degrees over true learning, and deemphasis on pursuing truth in favor of political activism. But unless we can reverse course, it will soon become — nay, it already is  — actively harmful to attend university.

There are educational institutions seeking to provide other options, and it would be wonderful if more colleges also provided opportunities for skilled labor and trade apprenticeships along with hardcore classical studies. Let the student read Shakespeare and Lincoln in the morning and manufacture a tabletop in the afternoon.

Americans really need to reassess their worship of mere “expertise” or credentials and their admiration for Ivy League schools. I do see those realizations picking up steam considerably, but some elitist “conservatives” are reluctant to acknowledge reality, even when it's as obvious and in-your-face as a karate chop from a “queer” Irish nutcase.
