Fly-tippers have dumped a "grotesque" mountain of waste in a field in Oxfordshire.
The "environmental catastrophe unfolding in plain sight" is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) high and has appeared on a site between the River Cherwell and the A34 near Kidlington.
Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock, has raised the issue in Parliament, saying it was "threatening an environmental disaster".
He also said Cherwell District Council had estimated the cost of removing the waste would be greater than its entire annual budget.
"This is not a licensed waste site and we can just see the quantity of waste that has been dumped here, that's illegal, so it's criminal," Mr Miller said, calling it "pollution on a grotesque scale".
"That's not something that local residents and taxpayers can afford."
He says "criminal gangs are dumping waste on this scale" across the country and it will take government intervention before pollutants "leech out" into local rivers.
The Environment Agency said it would try to "ensure those responsible" for the waste cleared it up.

Politician demands halal food in rural Wales
Solving problems that aren’t problems and don’t require solutions, here is former Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd (MSs) Bethan Sayed, lamenting the lack of halal food choices in Neath Port Talbot in Wales.

The Karen indicts the local Tesco supermarket for the grave anti-diversity hate crime of refusing to offer halal food to the “vulnerable communities” of Neath Port Talbot, who refuse to eat non-halal food fit for filthy kafirs, and who may or may not exist in reality.
As Sayed explains, she did the whole Karen routine and called Tesco to talk to whatever manager is responsible for talking Karens down off of ledges, who informed her that they don’t carry halal food because there’s no demand for halal food.
I’m not an economist, but I feel like that’s kind of an intuitive response. When no one wants to buy something, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to incur the cost of buying it and storing it in inventory.
But what do I know about economics? Clearly not nearly as much as this lady knows about human rights.

Neath Port Talbot, it might be noted, is a relatively non-cosmopolitan district with, according to Wikipedia, a 97% native British population (for now).
Ergo, why its private businesses should be forced to keep halal food in inventory isn’t quite clear.
