How did it come to be that tens of millions of illegal immigrants — none of whom would be here if there were no economic livelihood to be had — occupy the United States?
Certainly, there are many reasons, but the bottom-line reality is that the U.S. government allowed them to.

If the government, with an aggregate trillion-dollar “national security” apparatus, had made stopping them a priority, it could have.
Which begs the question: Why didn’t it?
At least part of the answer is:
Multinational corporations, with their death-grip on American politics and represented by entities such as the Chamber of Commerce, want them here for cheap labor (and other benefits conferred by replacing the native population).
While Republicans and nominally labor-friendly Democrats have historically paid much lip service to border control, the reality is that the mega-donors who actually set policy — at least up until the MAGA revolution — have long worked behind the scenes to import as many Third World immigrants as humanly possible.

Donors such as, for instance, the notorious Koch Brothers.

As the son of Mexican migrant workers and a veteran of the George W. Bush Administration, Daniel Garza has been frustrated by President Donald Trump’s hard-line approach to immigration.
To push back on it, he’s revving up a grassroots effort to lobby Congress, backed by the billion brothers Charles and, until recently, David Koch.
As head of the conservative mega-donors’ LIBRE Initiative aimed at Hispanics, Garza will be organizing five public rallies in the next week aimed at shaking loose a congressional stalemate on immigration, highlighting yet another looming deadline for courts to decide how to handle children who came to the country illegally…
LIBRE and other parts of the Koch machine — including the powerful grassroots-focused Americans for Prosperity — have made clear they want a path for immigrants in the country illegally to earn citizenship, for children brought to the country illegally to be protected, for families who are stopped at the border to stay together.
Why, one might ask, are Caucasian billionaire oligarchs from Wichita so keenly interested in getting illegal immigrants citizenship?
Is it pure altruism?
Are they Christlike figures, looking out for the least among us?

Or are they bottom-feeding predators who understand that Latino wage-slaves are willing to work harder for less money than actual citizens, thereby shaving operating costs for their numerous businesses — irrespective of deleterious social and broader economic fallout?
Continuing:
There have been tentative conversations with the group formerly known as the National Council of La Raza, a group often vilified in the conservative press, and LIBRE refused to back House Republicans’ compromise immigration legislation because it lowered all immigration.
“For us, that was unacceptable,” Garza said. “If you made these policy decisions that would restrict legal immigration, then you would hinder the ability to address market forces and the private sector to hire who they need to hire. It would induce more illegal immigration or illegal crossings because the demand is still there.”
When will the people actually responsible — who have the finances and the social connections to affect policy — be held to account for selling America down the river?
Until then, simply deporting sub-minimum-wage laborers slaving away at Tyson Foods' meat processing plants or wherever and calling that a victory for justice isn’t sufficient.
Indeed, those same interests, having coined a manipulative new catchphrase, haven’t stopped lobbying the current administration; it just appears that, up until now, at least, their demands have been largely ignored, whereas they enjoyed policy hegemony for the previous five decades.

Many of America's biggest businesses are quietly lobbying to curb President Donald Trump's plan to deport millions of immigrants — workers who represent a large share of their labor force. And some involved in the campaign are deploying a phrase designed to appeal to Trump and his business-minded allies: Make America Wealthy Again…
"Trump as a businessman understands that if he doesn't have 200 guys cutting the grass at his golf courses, then they don't look right, and people won't want to play golf there," says Cristina Antelo, the founding principal at Ferox Strategies, a lobbying firm that counts the National Retail Federation, Walmart, and the tobacco giant Reynolds America among its clients. "There's a way to get to Trump and make him realize that. How many businesses does he need to hear from before he's like, 'Crap, I really am going to paralyze the entire US labor market if I do this'?"
