Missouri Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency in Ferguson and ordered a curfew beginning Sunday at midnight until 5 a.m. in an attempt to curb the ongoing looting and protests in response to the shooting of Michael Brown by a police officer last week.

Nixon, surrounded by community leaders at a Ferguson church, announced the curfew during a “press conference” that was more like a gathering of community activists. Nixon was shouted down at several points during his remarks and during the Q & A as members of the community demanded the immediate indictment of the police officer involved in the shooting and demanded that the police stand down and cease their strong-arm tactics against the protesters.

Nixon would not say how long the curfew would last and would not say whether journalists would be arrested for curfew violations. He did say there would be a “staging area” available for the media to ensure “transparency.”

Many in the crowd made it clear that the protests would continue until “justice” was meted out for the shooting. “This poor child…this 18-year-old young man was killed in cold blood. That’s why people have been in the streets,” shouted one woman from the back of the room.

A fragile peace was shattered early Saturday morning as looters again robbed businesses while police in riot gear watched, mostly without intervening. Some protesters tried to stop the looters on their own, guarding stores and businesses to protect them from theft and property damage. Police have been under fire for the use of excessive force in opposing the protesters in Ferguson, utilizing armored vehicles, tear gas, and rubber bullets to control the crowds.

While Gov. Nixon praised the “courage and resolve” of protesters who tried to stop the looting, New Black Panther leader Malik Shabazz asked for “rules of engagement” between police and protesters and said the police wouldn’t be able to enforce the curfew. “We gotta do it ourselves. They go out there, it’s over,” Shabazz said.

Congressman Lacy Clay (D-MO) said at the meeting that he has asked Attorney General Eric Holder to take over the investigation into the shooting, asking him to investigate it as a civil rights violation. “Let the Feds prosecute. You’re not going to get a fair trial in St. Louis County,” Clay said.

Martial law solves the problem. This has nothing to do with the word ni66er or racial "justice." If Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, and so many others who are black and successful in their fields are not enough proof that there is opportunity for all then the conversation should be declared over. The real oppressors of the black population are the "professional blacks" like Holder, Obama, Jackson, Sharpton, et al that need to perpetuate the discontent because they live off it. At one point we have to disarm that ilk by being indifferent and firm with black discontent. If society has not done enough for them then let them tell us what else do they want but know ahead of time that "let me be a gangstah and live well without working" is not going to be tolerated. Integrate to society or suffer: that's the option. Enough of this nonsense. If you don't like it here, remember the Caliphate is asking for immigrants. Also remember that your beloved president is letting in enough Mexicans to replace you several times over!

If Holder believed someone should be honest with themselves he'd call out his people for acting like idiots instead of making every problem black folks have a white problem.

"It's a question of being honest with ourselves and racial issues that divide us," Holder told reporters in a hastily arranged news conference. "It's not easy to talk about it. We have to have the guts to be honest with each other, accept criticism, accept new proposals."

OK Holder, you and Obama have had the ball for five-and-a-half-friggin years.

So exactly what's wrong? Do they call African Americans the "N" word in Ferguson?
Do they have "Dogs and N'ers Keep Off the Grass" signs?
Do they have a box on employment forms "Are you or have you ever been African American"?

I'm getting just a little bit sick and tired of cries of "Injustice!".

And I recall the efforts to turn the name "Clarence Thomas" into a synonym for "Not Really A Black Man". Especially when, judging from his Autobiography, he had more than enough reasons to be ticked off with the world.

So....let's have your damn "conversation about race".

I agree with Obama and Holder on this! The sooner we can replace black American workers/job applicants with Hispanic illegal aliens, the better off we'll be!

All of these events in Ferguson are theater choreographed by the extreme Left that is the President's political base to divert attention away from foreign affairs and military failures and back onto the domestic agenda of "race" -- which is a social fiction. It is right out of the Cloward-Pivin strategy book; just as the orchestrated border crisis has been. The LA Times, a mouth piece, for the Left and labor unions, is running front page coverage of the Ferguson story with titles to articles "it could happen here" (with a sort of tone that they wish it would). For all those Democrats who voted for the current President and who now see that this has led to weakness abroad, weakness of the U.S. dollar and inflation, letting the barbarians in through porous borders, high energy prices, perpetual water shortages, and crony capitalism, all I can say is you got what you voted for.

Translation: White people should accept blame for black-on-black crime, the fatherless families, and the low academic acheivement.

I was wondering what you thought about how the black community like those in MO. will react to illegal aliens being placed in close proximity to them.

To me, this open border illegal alien invasion appears planned and the poor are being used as pawns in a much large political game. Perhaps, those types of individuals like in MO will riot when they feel illegal aliens are taking away from what they think is their's.

Riots = Marshal law. Maybe, that is one of the goals.

The black community in L.A. has been an immigrant detention center for 40 years yet they save their outrage for a police shooting just the same: http://twitchy.com/2014/08/15/demonstrators-march-in-l-a-streets-to-protest-shooting-death-of-ezellford/

Face it if you could have a no-tat rule as a weed-out mechanism, most of America would be fine with illegals muscling blacks out of the inner cities.

Dems think all non-whites are de facto allies. That is simply liberal anti-hegemonic anti-white pseudo-Marxism being put in play. The reality is different. Black activists have no more patience for Pakistani, Mexicans or Asians penetrating their neighborhood than they do for whites. The truth is that in Dem politics, any racial disparity is automatically suspect. Since reality never plays out like a pie-chart, Dems will exploit those disparities no matter who they are, but it is a monster they are creating. Eventually you might see areas where Asians or Mexicans dominate the police force, but with the same result. What then? Blame whites for that too?

Smart move. He's announcing a very real measure to curb the looting and also letting them know its success will depend on the community and not the police they've been complaining about. So let them see what it's like when the police are reduced to saying "Please" with no threat of force behind it. I hope he withdraws the police presence entirely and let the community know what "be careful what you wish for" means. They want to act like spoiled children never at fault - let 'em stare each other in the face without law. If you can trust skin - then go ahead and trust it.

Well they can hire the Black Panthers to police their community instead.

The Black Panthers were the first to introduce hard drugs to their own community. They did it to finance their movement. They are destroyers of black culture and black families just like Sharpton, Jackson, Barry, and Holder.
