After making a statement on Iraq from the South Lawn this morning, President Obama wasted no time booking it to the golf course.

“I’m not going to give a particular timetable, because as I’ve said from the start, wherever and whenever U.S. personnel and facilities are threatened, it’s my obligation, my responsibility as commander in chief, to make sure that they are protected. And we’re not moving our embassy anytime soon. We’re not moving our consulate anytime soon. And that means that, given the challenging security environment, we’re going to maintain vigilance and ensure that our people are safe,” Obama said.

“Our initial goal is to not only make sure Americans are protected, but also to deal with this humanitarian situation in Sinjar. We feel confident that we can prevent ISIL from going up a mountain and slaughtering the people who are there. But the next step, which is going to be complicated logistically, is how do we give safe passage for people down from the mountain, and where can we ultimately relocate them so that they are safe. That’s the kind of coordination that we need to do internationally.”

Obama spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel aboard Air Force One en route to Martha’s Vineyard, as Bo the dog strolled through the press cabin.

The White House press pool was kept out of sight of Obama’s vacation home at the end of a private road.

Obama was only there for about half an hour before hitting the golf course. His partners were Valerie Jarrett’s boyfriend Ahmad Rashad, Jarrett’s cousin Cyrus Walker, and NBA player Ray Allen.

The pool was permitted to watch President Obama and his golf partners as they wrapped up the first hole at Farm Neck. Obama, in a white golf shirt, baseball cap and gray pants, carefully lined up a putt, bending down to the grass and taking a long look at the green before eventually making the short putt.

“The pool did not witness any particularly impressive or embarrassing shots as each player took his turn putting. The foursome appeared to be having a pleasant but low-key conversation, but the pool was kept at a distance and could not hear the discussion,” said an afternoon press pool report.

“After just a couple minutes at the first green, the pool was ushered away” and left to wait in a bus. “The weather in Oak Bluffs is perfect for playing 18 holes — sunny and 79 degrees today.”

Obama is scheduled to be at Martha’s Vineyard through Aug. 17, but will head to Tisbury, Mass., on Monday for a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser.

He'll be there for the next 12 days, just as IS is advancing on the one free region in Iraq, and as our military is striking as best as he will allow.

Does he have the same facilities there as he does in the White House that he needs in order to be briiefed as things get wild and wooly over the skies of Iraq?

Before anyone pops off about the fact that Dubya went to Crawford for his vacations, let me bring up the difference between a rental in MV and a home in Texas.

B.O seems to want a world or war where there are no victors or vanquished.

What a load of hooey.

Seems he doesn't believe in that for himself, as his elections are about winning, and imposing his community organizer ideals onto others.

And seems in the real world, leaders don't care about his PC BS.

As has been said elsewhere,
'Relaxing and playing golf - aren't you supposed to do something different on vacation?'

Bush quit playing golf and otherwise recreating during the war, as I recall, but this guy never stops - party party. His equanimity is impressive; nothing seems to bother him. He just goes off and has a good time.
And yet overwhelmingly people think he cares about them. Well, more than those nasty, mean Rs at least.

I think your nation has reached peak-hypocrisy now. These four blokes on the golf course, living large as they say. The left have retreated in that I don't think they think he is much good, definitely as a politician, and probably they are starting to think that as a man he is rather shallow and lightweight too. The GOP now has to start representing a more humble side, less braggadocio and more let's forget blame and roll up our sleeves and get to work. Can't hurt? Alternately, a left field idea is that he could save his presidency if he shifts right and declares the nation is in near emergency. He actually has the power to do it as only a powerful person of the left can speak truth to them. He doesn't like to lose and he had never had to having never had an opponent before 2008; it is all about him, and he is down many points. Can he change-he famously said "I got game" about himself? 4 hypocrites on a golf course won't do it, at any rate.

I take it that you don't have the experience of dealing with a malignant narcissist or his/her first cousin, a sociopath.

Yuk, yuk:-) actually I do...so I should know better...bear in mind, I did say an idea from left field, though that is a total misnomer isn't it, that is where all his ideas have thus far come from. What I meant to say was if he could pull his head out of his...or better yet, unwrap his lips from his own...

and you forgot to mention that the press hated to go to Crawford because there wasn't a lot to do for them.

In MV they have their nice expense accounts and great places for a tourist to indulge themselves.

It doesn't matter where Obama is, Mandy, he frequently skips national security briefings, anyway.

If anything important happens, he's confident someone on his staff will inform him. Or, he can read about it in the newspapers. Not to worry.
