Profitable privately owned restaurant on federal land in SF ordered closed "due to shutdown"; managers however still getting paid.

Most of the news about the “Shutdown Theater” — unnecessary closures ordered by the Obama administration to purposely maximize the pain of the government shutdown — has focused on the Washington, DC area, but the epidemic of artificial Potemkin Suffering has now struck the West Coast as well.

San Francisco’s Cliff House, a privately owned and very profitable restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean, was suddenly and unexpectedly ordered closed today, “because” the building sits on federal land. This, despite the fact that the Cliff House racks up $11.5 million in annual sales and is one of the most profitable independent restaurants in the nation.

How does the government save money by shuttering a profitable business? And a private one at that?

There are no federal employees at the Cliff House restaurant; a receptionist still manning the phones there today confirmed that all employees are paid by the restaurant’s owners, not by the government. As the Cliff House’s own Web site notes today, the restaurant is a “concessionaire” operating a business on Federal land — in this case, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which encompasses much of the Pacific shoreline along San Francisco and Marin counties — which means it is a private business which pays a fee to operate on government property:

But there is no federally staffed “admission office” to access Cliff House, nor are there park rangers nor any other government employees involved in the Cliff House restaurant’s operation — it sits directly on a city street, accessible to all, as this photo reveals:

Proof that this forced closure is only for political “optics” in an attempt by Obama to arouse public anger at the Republican controlled House of Representatives: While the waitresses and chefs were sent home today without paychecks, the restaurant’s managers continue to get paid as normal:

During the hiatus, servers and cooks will not get paid, according to a receptionist at the restaurant, though managers and receptionists — who will still be working — will continue to get paid.

If the restaurant was being closed because there was no money to pay employees due to the shutdown, then obviously everybody would get sent home. But no — as we have seen at various facilities around the country, only the employees who directly serve the public are being furloughed, because their absence causes inconvenience — while the behind-the-scenes managers and executives (and politicians) continue to draw their salaries as normal.

The absurdity is becoming more and more apparent every day as we learn that none of the closures are actually necessary at all, and didn’t happen during previous shutdowns.

The fact that the federal government twisted the arm of a private business to intentionally and unnecessarily inconvenience its customers (and lose money while doing so) proves that the Obama administration will stop at nothing to maximize the drama of its political brinksmanship.

No, idiot lefty troll; what's important is that the fascist Administration strongarmed a private concessionaire, presumably with a valid and enforceable contract to operate the restaurant and it is said partial ownership of the building. There are no federal funds and no federal employees involved, this restaurant happens to be an inholding on federal park land. I suspect the reason the NPS has ownership rights to the structure is that it was confiscated as parkland leaving the owners only with a life interest in the property. That's something the federal fascists do a lot of in communist, excuse me, Democrat administrations. Lots of longtime landowners in Alaska and other parts of the federally occupied West have had the land around them turned into parkland, refuges, or wilderness and are constantly harassed by the US government over access to and use of their property.

Way too much power at the Federal level. If people do not rise up against this bulling of King Obama and his court jesters then this country will not survive. The mean spirit of Reid and the administration is NOT going un-noticed in my office.

Interesting that the kinyun's minions are expending "nonexistent" federal cash to "shut down" so many places that first, cost money to shut down, second, cost FedGov NOTHING to continue as normal, and third have nothing to do whatever with federal budgets or spending. Cliff House is a private enterprise costing FedGov nothing.... yet, in the face of "no money", FedGov come round (men and equipment on the payroll) and "close" something that functions entirely without them. Same with the Veteran's Memorial in DC, and that state-operated park in, where was it, Virginia.

What these clowns are doing is stirring the pot.. much as does a spolit child not getting his way who will drop his knickers and releive himself upon the carpet in the main room of the house. Carry on so long enough and eventually SOMEONE bigger and more intelligent than the ranter will take him up by his ears, frog-march him out to the woodshed, and properly deal with his errant behaviour. The kinyun and his crones are being paid to perform certain tasks. They abdicate those, and instead usurp "responsibilities" never theirs for the purpose of arounsing sentiment amongst the people. Arousing sentiment is what they are accomplishing, surely, but not the sentiment they desire. Our best hope is that enough will say "ENOUGH" and, late though it be, make that trip out to the woodshed with the kmiscreants in tow for a little "attitude adjustment".

The best hope at this point is for all these shenanigans to backfire on Obama, his administration & the Democrats. Of course, they are betting that the Pubs will continue to get the blame. Kudos to you, Zom, for doing your part to help get the word out.

To General Tso: I'm not bright enough to post on these pages very often. However, I am bright enough to recognize chicken-sh!t from chicken salad. These actions are nothing less than chicken-sh!t little actions by the government. Much like concessionaires in Arizona parks, Mt Vernon(privately owned), this action of closing Cliff House and other locations doesn't do ANYTHING but attempt to infuriate people. Good lord, even the closing of the WWII Memorial was a pointless worthless act that proves it is chicken sh!t.

Zombie, you're preaching to the choir. Except for PJ Media, Drudge, Instapundit, and some others, the truth is not getting out. Obama and the MSM are blaming all this pain on the Republicans. That's all the low-information voters are hearing and that's what they believe.

I know full well that I/we are battling the MSM behemoth and their unanimous monopoly on dictating the national narrative.

But what else would you have me do? I am not all-powerful -- all I can do is bleat what I see as the truth from my tiny corner and hope I influence one person out there.

Aside from some grand vague plan to "retake the media," the only alternative to what I do is simply to stay silent. Which doesn't seem very efficacious either.

All we can do is try.

I am not sure if the Administration is displaying stupidity or malice with the increasing shut downs of public lands and buildings. I am sure I don't like it and will be sending emails to my elected officials expressing my irritation.

Malice. Obama is being intentionally spiteful, because he IS intentionally spiteful. The photo of Obama with his middle finger raised is a classic example of how low his class is.
