The headline “MYSTERY: Nation’s Debt Unchanged – for 87th Straight Day?!” is at the coveted upper left of the Drudge Report at this writing. According to CNS:

The Treasury Department’s Financial Management Service (FMS), which publishes both the federal government’s official Daily Treasury Statement and its official Monthly Treasury Statement, is reporting that in July the federal government ran a deficit of $98 billion but that the federal government’s debt remained exactly $16,699,396,000,000 for the entire month. –

But a mouse click away at the website U.S. National Debt Clock, it’s business as usual, the debt moving as ever at a breakneck pace toward 17 trillion.

Could somebody be lying to us? Or covering up?

They should do a better job.
