The state’s lawyers prosecuting George Zimmerman in Florida are having an awful, no good, indeed very bad, week.

They called “star witness” Rachel Jaentel to the stand. She was the woman who was on the phone with Travyon Martin when the altercation that resulted in his death began. Jaental couldn’t read a letter about that night that she supposedly wrote to Martin’s parents. She contradicted her own version of events. She called a question from the defense attorney “retarded,” using a politically-incorrect epithet. Speaking of epithets, she admitted under oath that Trayvon Martin described Zimmerman as a “creepy-ass cracker,” a racial slur, then said that in her opinion “cracker” is not in fact a racial slur.

NBC News injected race into the killing and made it a national story shortly after it happened, by deceptively editing Zimmerman’s 9-11 call to make it sound like he targeted Martin because he was black. No word on whether the network plans to edit Jaental’s testimony to make Martin sound like he wasn’t a racist.

Today, two prosecution witnesses hurt the case for different reasons.

One of them may have lied on the stand about having been an Olympic-class marathon runner. If that pans out, her testimony is strongly suspect.

The prosecution called neighbor John Good to the stand. He testified that he saw the fight between Martin and Zimmerman, and that he saw Martin on top of Zimmerman, punching him mixed martial arts style. Good also testified that the scream heard on recordings of 9-11 calls that night must have come from Zimmerman, not Martin. Good’s testimony bolsters Zimmerman’s contention that the bigger and more athletic Martin attacked and was beating him, and that he shot Martin out of fear for his life.

As I write this, prosecution witness Joseph Manalo is testifying that immediately after the altercation, Zimmerman looked like he had been in a fight. It was Manalo who took the famous photo of the back of Zimmerman’s head after the fight, showing wounds and blood consistent with Zimmerman’s take on that night.

As the case has looked weaker, threats of riots if Zimmerman is not convicted have grown louder on Twitter. No word on whether NBC News ever plans to put the race genie that it deliberately freed in this case back into the bottle. Or even if it can.

The media is not reporting the weakness of the prosecution's efforts - if anything the reverse.

They want rioting to occur when/if there is an acquittal.

The media calls Zimmerman a White Hispanic when one of his grandparents was Black and the other was Hispanic. Apparently, the media wanted to make this case about race since Day 1. Was it due to a desire to stir up Blacks before the 2012 elections?

The whole point of this farce is to elevate an entirely new principle about "rights." ( http://bastionofliberty.blogspot.com/2013/06/legitimized-victims.html ) Agitation for that principle has been prominent in a number of other cases: OJ Simpson, Matthew Shepard, Jesse Dirkhising, Rodney King, and others. Beware!

Here's what's going to happen:

1) Zimmerman will be found guilty of something. That will keep riots from happening. Prosecutors will speechify and grandstand
2) He will appeal and after 18 months to 2 years in court mostly because of prosecutorial delaying tactics, he will be acquitted. All the skulduggery employed in the first trial will come out in the appeal. MSM will ignore this trial
3) Zimmerman will sue for wrongful prosecution and may win damages.
4) Who loses are the taxpayers who had to foot the bill for the whole nonsense.

I agree with you 100%.
I think it will take a while, but Mr. Zimmerman will also receive significant settlements for the way NBC and others cut and spliced his 911 calls to make him sound racist. No way does the media want to get into a courtroom or even get to discovery with they way they've reported this case.
He'll have to change his name and move of state, of course.

Ariel Sharon was called a war criminal by Time magazine. He sued, and the court found that (1) Time lied, and (2) Time knew they lied. Just the same, Time won because he could not prove malice. This was considered a victory for Time.

Good luck with American libel law.

Yes, the entire kangaroo is costing Florida taxpayers. If Obama's 'sons' riot on acquittal (if that happens) the cost is on all taxpayers. Even an NBC settlement costs consumers: payout goes to bottom line, increasing cost of doing business; to remain profitable, NBC raises advertising rates; advertisers pay more, driving up their cost of doing business; they pass that along by increasing prices of their goods and services; people pay more at the register.

The probably won't go that far Mr. Preston.
But as I predicted the liberal scribes have already begun defending poor Miss Jaentel from the evil racist defense lawyers who dare to question her testimony:

Didn't AP do that in a dispatch? I don't have a link, sorry.

The blow back on rioting might get harsher than realized. The white leftists have been the playing race card against their political opponents from their environmental bubble way to long to see that it is not buying them much outside their constipated base. The race card is buying less and less and the sight and sound of it is generating more and more disgust among people of a lot of different races.

Just remember that even if he is acquitted, the circus will not be over. The feds will run a civil rights show trial and get him come heck or high water.

That will be hard since the FBI, part of the DOJ, has already publicly noted their investigation found Zimmerman wasn't racist.

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2012-07-12/news/os-george-zimmerman-evidence-release-20120712_1_trayvon-martin-neighborhood-watch-volunteer-george-Zimmerman

But this shouldn't have gone to trial, based upon the original police investigation, and it did. So now that government has officially gone insane, who knows what's possible? The Zimmerman prosecutor must treat Sanford PD as hostile witnesses, so maybe Holder will dump on the FBI. That could actually end up being good in the long run.
