The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said that the timeline of the FBI’s investigation into the Petraeus emails in relation to campaign season “doesn’t add up.”
“First of all, I’m wondering — excuse me, how a — something about emails went to the level of the FBI, how the FBI could have been investigating it this long, and yet, you know, General Petraeus was involved — or Director Petraeus was involved,” Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said this morning on CNN’s State of the Union.
“To me, if it was the FBI the director had the obligation to tell the president or the National Security Council at the earliest state. So it seems this has been going on for several months and, yet, now it appears that they’re saying that the FBI didn’t realize until Election Day that General Petraeus was involved,” King continued. “It just doesn’t add up, that you have this type of investigation. The FBI investigating emails, the emails leading to the CIA director, and it taking four months to find out that the CIA director was involved.”
“I think the FBI has to come forward and tell exactly when they began the investigation, why it reached that level, when they first realized that General Petraeus might be involved, and at the time they did realize he was involved, did they go to the White House, did they go to the National Security Council? Because obviously this was a matter involving a potential compromise of security, and the president should have been told about it at the earliest state. That’s really all I’m saying. How the FBI got involved? How long it was going on? Did they get a court order? Was it a federal court order for this email surveillance? You know, what was contained in that order? When did they realize that it possibly involved the CIA director?”
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), accused before the election of visiting hookers (charges which he has denied), countered that he doesn’t “see a conspiracy behind every curtain, as some of my colleagues do.”
“There was a threat by one individual against another. That individual went to the FBI in the pursuit of that review of that threat. They came upon access to emails of Mr. Petraeus and — with this individual, and they are concerned that maybe that his personal emails had been hacked and, therefore, the possibility of a security threat,” Menendez said. “And I think that if that is the sequence of events, that’s perfectly understandable. Obviously, you know, there was a discussion between Jim Clapper and Petraeus. And there was a decision by General Petraeus that it was in his best interest of himself, the agency, and his family to resign.”
Without restating the obvious, the Chief Fraud and his advisors will stop short of Nothing to keep power. This includes blatant lying.

Not necessarily, Adina. Obama is running out of people for his “inner circle”. He needs people to bolster him; people he can trust from the Chicago group or he flounders badly. With Holder, Axelrod, and even Clinton gone, he’s left holding the bag all on his lonesome. Even Valarie Jarrett can’t fill the voids. I can’t think of anyone associated with him that he can call on to fill those positions. It’s a quandary and I’m curious to see how it plays out.
There are hordes of people salivating at stepping in to these positions. Just because you never hear their names doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Seems to me that it makes no difference from where the tip came that got the FBI involved. The fact that neither principle party is denying the allegations pretty much sums it up. The general was/is no longer qualified to be Director of the CIA.

Yesterday she was asked by Chris Wallace whether the timing of his resignation was political. She said no and Wallace didn’t challenge her. The answer to your question is are you kidding me?
As with whether Benghazi was a terrorist attack, Obama would have known about Petraeus’ affair as it was occurring. We now know why Petraeus claimed that the terrorist attack in Benghazi was caused by a video. And don’t tell me either is too honorable to be involved in blackmail.
Isn’t the governments’ classified e-mail system completely isolated from the regular e-mail system. The biographer shouldn’t have been able to access that equipment or see any classified traffic sent or received by it. If she was using that system, that is one particular serious matter. If she was accessing the unclassified system in his office, which she also should not have been doing, there should not have been any sensitive information available to her. If sensitive or classified information was accessible on that system, that then is a second serious matter and others should also be in trouble.
Why was this affair leaked AFTER the election?

The Senate Intelliegence Committee should be asking why Ambassador Stephens was targeted and what role did Petraeus, in his comprised position as CIA Director, play in going along with the administration’s false narrative that a video was the motivation factor that led to the massacre in Benghazi. Why were Ambassador Stephens and the Turkish official meeting in Benghazi instead of Tripoli? There is enough information out there to suggest that arms were being taken to Syria by militias that we supported in Libya. It has also been suggested that the Ambassador was attempting to retrieve some of those weapons because they had fallen into the hands of Al Qeada types. This is a major cover-up and Petraeus knows the ugly truth.
This all sounds like another “reality series” ready made for TV next season. “Who Screwed Barney Frank” would be more popular than “Who Shot J.R.”.
With all the deference to this “administration” by an obsequious media, and all the power this “administration” has to shove it’s agenda through without resistance, why doesn’t this regime just completely take over every aspect of government?

What I’m curious about is how Broadwell got access to Patraues’ personal email. Either he gave her his passwords or she sleuthed them some way. And why would she even want them? Is it something like just being a possessive, vindictive mistress or something more nefarious? It looks to me that Broadwell needs investigated even more than Patreaus.
As far as Patraeus, I think he ‘fessed up because he knew it would all come out, as it should, but, once done, he will be free from White House constraint to testify before Congress. Saving the salacious news until after the Election is just oh-so-obvious but that isn’t the main thing. The timing has been off on the Benghasi time-line since the get-go and Patraeus knows that. The one thing that would cause him to fall on his own sword would be his honor from his Military background and it had to have been in-extremis for him to break the cardinal rule of “leave no man behind”. Obama has no such compunction despite his fawning rhetoric but that has been ingrained in Patraeus for decades.
Does Patraeus have the intestinal fortitude to buck all the politics and put his life on the line for the US?
As a soldier, I would think he does.

You just watch. General Petraeus is being set up as the fall guy for everything that happened in Libya. He is going to be the sacraficial lamb. Unless, of course, he doesn’t relish this outcome and decides to tell the truth under oath to Congress. I’m wondering if he will really do that. I’m guessing that if forced to, he will. Petraeus may be many things, but he is NOT a coward. If he’s forced to do it, he will take down the White House. And it could all be happening sooner than we think. The White House is probably releasing more and more information on Petraeus so as to destroy his credibility as a witness. I don’t think that will work. The next two weeks should tell us which way he’s going to go with this.
Is this a happy time in America, or not? A Congressman, who lives in a mental institution was reelected to Congress by a landslide, while in active plea bargaining to limit his time in a penitentiary. He knew he would never be allowed to take his oath, yet ran for office. He replaced a disgraced former Congressman in a prior expose. The Head of the CIA, with full knowledge of what happened at his Benghazi safe house in the recent attack by military forces, resigns because he used his secure communications with a girl friend. We just concluded a year of Presidential campaigning in which the topic of Fast and Furious, and the murder of two American peace officers was never explored in any depth.
With the active silence by the Executive branch in league with the MSM, we now have replaced October surprises with December surprises, or maybe twenty years after the fact, death bed surprises. We are kept in the dark, on basic facts. Everybody’s votes are based on ignorance.
The only thing I expect of the media is the prurient disclosure of every sexual aspect of ex General Petraeus personal life and the agony within his family.
