During the second presidential debate, President Obama uttered a line so full of ignorance that, if he were a Republican, it would be all anyone talked about afterward. Mitt Romney noted that gas prices are roughly double now what they were when Obama took office. Obama replied that gas prices were so low because the U.S. economy was about to go into collapse.
Obama never mentioned the effect of supply or demand on the price. He never mentioned the effect that Middle East instability has on the price of gas. He never mentioned that the mere possibility of an energy giant like the U.S. making the public decision to get serious about energy independence can bring prices down. He never allowed that his own energy policies have had any detrimental effect.
He blamed a collapse that had not happened yet for prices that had been lower for years than they are now.
What an economic buffoon.
But he is not being called out for that remark. The moderator just let it slide.
In another part of the debate, moderator Candy Crowley stepped in just when Romney had Obama on the ropes. The subject was Libya. Romney had said that Obama failed to call the attack in Benghazi a terrorist attack for 14 days. He was right about that. But Crowley intervened and corrected Romney, saying that Obama had called the attack a terrorist attack during his brief Rose Garden remarks on September 12.
The transcript of Obama’s remarks says otherwise.
I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers. They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.
I have directed my Administration to provide all necessary resources to support the security of our personnel in Libya, and to increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe. While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.
On a personal note, Chris was a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States. Throughout the Libyan revolution, he selflessly served our country and the Libyan people at our mission in Benghazi. As Ambassador in Tripoli, he has supported Libya’s transition to democracy. His legacy will endure wherever human beings reach for liberty and justice. I am profoundly grateful for his service to my Administration, and deeply saddened by this loss.
The brave Americans we lost represent the extraordinary service and sacrifices that our civilians make every day around the globe. As we stand united with their families, let us now redouble our own efforts to carry their work forward.
Obama called it an “attack” but blamed it on the movie, when he said “While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others…” His team would spend the next two weeks doubling down on that meme, even arresting the alleged filmmaker.
How did Obama skate by this deception? The “moderator” helped him. Intentionally.
What an outrage.
I was initially less displeased with Crowley’s performance as moderator than than that of Martha Raddatz, the ABC reporter who moderated the vice presidential debate. Raddatz consistently changed the subject when things got too difficult for Vice President Biden, and she interrupted Paul Ryan 31 times, to interrupting Biden just 19 times. She was clearly biased.
But Candy Crowley’s bias was more insidious. She chose the questions and the questioners. She let Obama’s towering ignorance on gas prices slip by unremarked. She corrected Mitt Romney with incorrect facts, allowing Obama to escape the most dangerous moment of the entire debate. She did what she could to tilt this debate in Obama’s favor without ever acknowledging that she was doing so. She knew what she was doing.
No mainstream media figure should ever be allowed to moderate another debate. They keep stacking the deck and favoring one side over the other. It’s always the same side that they favor. They’re despicable hypocrites who keep getting worse year by year.
Crowley has given a sort-of admission that she might have been wrong, after the fact. But damage done. She skewed the debate and let Obama off the hook. Mission accomplished.
See video of Crowley’s walkback on the next page.

I’m shocked…SHOCKED…well, yawn…good night all; infantile liberalism/statism headache #2,727,296 is coming on.
The RNC allowed 3 liberals to officiate the debates.
They deserve what they get in each one.
It’s not called the “Stupid Party” for nothing.
You are dissallowing the fact that the incumbent President does not have to debate; it’s his call. Further, debating (stirring the pot) for the incumbent is typically not in his best interest. This is most especially true of Democrat incumbents because they get an incredible amount of free campaign air time, via being asked to sit in on a large variety of TV shows. Therefore, it stands to reason that if a Republican did not accept the DNC’s rules of engagement, the DNC would say “No debate!”
Sure, the dhimmicrats could say ‘No Debate’ … and would have been open to months after months of Romney saying after every sentence “and if Mr Obama wasn’t too afraid to have a debate, we could discuss this matter”.
But here’s the thing–obviously biased moderation makes the win even stronger. Lehrer allowed Romney to totally rule Obama in the first debate. Obviously biased moderation allowed Biden to cut his own throat. And obviously biased moderation in this debate allows Romney and the conservatives to irrefutably point to moderator bias and Romney still won this debate in the likely voter’s minds.
So even if the umpire is calling balls as strikes, if you don’t get into the batter’s box you cannot hit anything. Had Romney not been at the first debate his candidacy would not have made those major gains over Obama nor would millions of Americans have seen a decent, smart, successful candidate in Romney.
wut?
“Lehrer allowed Romney to totally rule Obama in the first debate.”
Lehrer declined to be biased, that’s not ‘bias’. The first debate was fair with basically no leading by Lehrer.
After the 1st debate the Dems went nuts because their PBS/NPR demigod didn’t succumb to the lure of bias.
The last thing that the next two ‘moderators’ wanted was to seem fair to both debaters because they have rabid Dems that will savage them if they don’t prompt Obama and interrupt Romney.
Crowley tried to help. After all, what is the point of being bought and paid for if you don’t at least try? But, overall, she couldn’t. She picked the questions she thought would allow the President to shine, but a pig is still a pig despite the lipstick.
Crowley may have thought she was helping the President by saying he called the death of our Ambassador to Libya a terrorist attack from the beginning, but her legalistic parsing of what the President actually said in the aftermath of the Stevens’ assassination will only remind voters of Clinton, famously questioning what the definition of “is” is.

Did you just call the hefty Ms. Crowley ,a pig in lipstick? Shame on you.
Yeah,
That’s an insult to pigs.
Yeah, leave Mama Cass alone
lay off the physique-related ad hominems. they are offensive and reinforce the narrative that conservatives are misogynists. they subtract from substantive arguments and thus undermine the value of your opinion to others.
Actually, Crowley’s a Fat Cat. ‘You don’t think she’s hauling in a hefty salary among the top echelons of media whores?
She earned her keep last night, didn’t she — while earning the well-deserved contempt and disdain of fair-minded voters.
Lipstick and Shirley-Temple curls couldn’t help Crowley avoid a complete Obama-acolyte meltdown. She may never be able to hold her head up again. She’s a sellout.
One need only look at Candy Crowley to see that she has no self restraint. It was her last chance to help her beloved BO boy president.
As usual the Republicans also did their part to help BO by agreeing to 3 liberal moderators. Stupid is as stupid does.
The election commission is the one selecting moderators and, as you can guess, this commission is very left-leaning.
Does not the candidate reps get to agree or not agree with them ?
No. All the RNC can (could) do is to try o negotiate with the DNC. LOL!
One might consider that Republicans agree with Madison: “A bad cause seldom fails to betray itself.” Federalist No. 41. And so, are content to use thedebates as instruction on hard left media bias. On the other hand, my Occam’s Razor tells me that Washington-based Republicans maintain their wimpish status in dealing with the hard-left mindset.
Just one other thing — how many hard-lefties in the national media are on food stamps. Zero? Consequently, I don’t expect that the fact that middle class income is down has any siognificance to Raddatz, Crowley, et al. Madison, in Federalist No. 57 warned that tyrannyhappens when officials are distant from the people. Obliviousness to tyranny happens in a media that is no less distant from the people.
These debates are a legacy of decisions made long ago by the members of the RNC. If you do a little Googling you can find a few articles about it.
This morning I caught a portion of an interview by Laura Ingraham of Priebus. She asked him about this and he basically said “there’s nothing we can do.” Hogwash. Break the contract and start over and say WHY you’re breaking the contract.
This won’t be undone until conservatives get involved in their local party committees as committeemen. They in turn will elect the electors who will elect the RNC members from their state. Conservatives need to read the Rules of the Republican Party, their state rules/bylaws, their county rules/bylaws, and their local committee rules/bylaws. It’s not hard at all to get involved if one has persistence. There are plenty of resources now on the internet. (I know you know all this, C_C — this is for the benefit of others who may want to “do something” besides just complaining.)
The reason the RNC, and the state party and county party and local pary committee “leadership” is not “conservative enough” for some conservatives is because, quite simply, not enough conservatives are “in” the Party as voting members of it: local precinct committeeman. Until we change that, nothing will change. The only way to “change” the “leaders” is to replace them with real conservatives. It’s a pure numbers game, just like any other election.
Thank you.
CW
“This won’t be undone until conservatives get involved in their local party committees as committeemen. They in turn will elect the electors who will elect the RNC members from their state. Conservatives need to read the” Constitution and understand it, . . .
This reaches to the very idea of what the 17th Amd was all about—which was, to stop that kind of thing, thus leaving the senators relatively independent of a representative system, . . .
Shame on you. Stupidity is not the province of one political party. All are subject to it’s rule.
Remember romney not only had to negociate with obama on debate formats and moderators, but with the debate commission as well. And he needed the debates more than obama did, since obama was ahead before the first debate. And any breakdown in debate negociations would have been portrayed by the MSM as romney backing out, not obama. So the repubs got the best they could get from an inherently biased situation, that is hardly stupid, and in a way is quite courageous. Its just a fact of life that the MSM will screw repubs, and we must learn to cope with it as best we can.
In the end I think the public will recognize crowleys bias anyway, so it will not help obama as much as they think it will.
It is obvious that the RNC is still hell bent on posing as the gentleman’s party. In other words, they haven’t learned the requisite lesson – it takes two to tango, and this is not for nothing. Therefore, why in the world did its leadership agree to Crowley as the moderator?
Mind you, it is not as if Romney didn’t score major hits on The One, but it is because of his substance & style, with no assists from party leadership. Clueless bastards. For heavens sake, didn’t they realize that Crowley would play to Obama’s fiddle.
On the other hand, the above gives that much more fodder to bloggers to work with, but it is getting dispiriting.
Many American-Israelis (and native Israelis too) are terrified of another 4 yrs with the Islamist-in-Chief at the helm. They understand what it means for Israel, as well as for America. Therefore, this blogger is working overtime to keep them (and others) up to speed – http://adinakutnicki.com/about/
At the very least, the RNC could do their part, and stop making it easier for the other side to score points! And, it is not as if our plates aren’t overflowing with enough bad news. Haven’t they heard, the Mid East is nearing a full fledged explosion, and its blow back will be felt on U.S. shores too. Therefore, a little consideration from party heads would be helpful, at least demonstrating their due diligence/vigilance
Many of us troops in field are telling the “decision” makers that it is long past time to take the fight to the Dems in the same nasty manner as they treat every one of our candidates. Romney is too classy a guy however, and it is not in his nature to be nasty. He can take it to Obama in his own factual, experienced manner. Last nights debate SHOULD show everyone yet again that the MSM will do everything possible to impose their bias on the public, and they have no shame. Just as Obama lies and distorts, no one can claim Crowley and he didn’t have that “Rose garden” answer set up before the debate. The LIE is a willful and blatant attack on Romney and the American people as well. They have no shame because they have no conscience.
This was clearly a set-up; since Crowley made a late night stop at the white house sunday night, I am convinced obama had the questions beforehand; since it was Crowley who selected the questions asked, as well as the so-called ‘independent’ audience member also left-leaning individuals, who voted for obama and, are far left.
The question to Romney about’fear of returning of Bush’s policies’ is not that of an independent nor liverterian or conservative leaning indiviuals.
Don’t know about the Sunday night visit, but I absolutely agree with all your rest. Right off, with the question about disparity of wages regarding women and Obama invoking the Ledbetter response, I got the strong and gut impression this was a set-up and Obama absolutely, positively, and overnite knew this specific question in advance and had meticulously prepared for it. This is akin to the Stephanolos “contraception” question that was thrown in not only out of left field, but from the parking lot. Where in the last year or so of the campaign did the issue of gender wage inequity surface (among all the other issues brought up)? The only wage inequity discussion brought up was that CEOs were being vastly and unjustly enriched more (“social justice” don’t ya know) than rank and file workers and the Democovets vaunted middle class, with Mitt Romney being one of if not the Democovet’s principle miscreant. One word: Sham. New (if not the past) definition for ‘debate moderator’: A career enhancing assignment that allows sustained access to political elites, especially those in the White House.
Didn’t Dear Leader at one point tell Romney to “read the transcript” that the moderator had? How could he have known she would have a transcript of that Rose Garden speech handy. Why would she “happen” to have that one?
I’m an undecided, independent voter. But I look like the president of the local League of Women Voters, and i want to ask, how do I know you’re not just like that horrible George Bush? One of the Kant questions selected by the impartial moderator
There is no doubt that this was a set up. Obama avoided Romney’s question of accuracy, and when Romney was finished, he turned to Candy and said, “Read the transcript.” She had the transcript and said, “The president is correct” or something similar. She had to know that this question was coming, and Obama had given her the answer.
In other words, they haven’t learned the requisite lesson – it takes two to tango, and this is not for nothing. Therefore, why in the world did its leadership agree to Crowley as the moderator?
A better question is why they agree to the idiotic ‘town hall’ format that’s always stocked with parasites and proglodytes.
Did the President just do one of the greatest turnarounds as a debater or did he cheat? During last night’s debate President Obama performed much better than in the last one, he almost had a second sense of the questions and was prepared with his answers. When Mitt Romney was discussing the Terrorist attack in Libya and about to blast the President over the cover-up he was simultaneously interrupted and stopped by the President and the Moderator pointing to a transcript from the Rose Garden the morning following the attack. How could the President and the Moderator have coordinated this information, unless they had prior contact to the debate? Now it appears that the President may have been passed the question(s) beforehand! On top of this, did the President just contradict his staff on what they know and when they knew it? This means he was part of the deception to cover-up what happened in Libya and sent Ambassador Rice out with the false message. You can call this what you want, but it appears that the President is a Liar and a Cheat!
Well, the question was on security, but that changed into a question on when the administration decided to call the attack terrorism. So specific knowledge of the question (which Obama didn’t answer) wouldn’t help Obama with the terrorism thing.
I suspect Obama did know the questions, but he realized that the Libya fiasco also involves his and his administrations lies on the cause of the attack, so he was prepared for that.
Don’t forget Bryan that Obama only really answered 10 questions to Romney’s 11. The “how are you different from Bush” question allowed a cheap shot from Obama. By giving Obama a chance to put in his .02 cents in on a question that he had zero liability in, Crowley essentially held Romney’s arms behind his back while Obama sucker punched him!
Actually I think that was a good opportunity for Romney, he took it, and he did well with it. Obama campaign makes the innuendo without specifics and this gave Romney a chance to differentiate himself clearly and concisely. It was substantive and it was the only part of the debate where I turned to my wife and said “He did really well with that”.
I think it gave Obama a chance to caricature Romney as extreme. Hell, Obama was talking about Bushes stances on Medicare, immigration reform, etc. as if he and W were always on the same page and Romney was the one who was extreme and out of touch. It played right into their preferred narrative and they got it for free with minimal risk (not to mention Crowley kept giving Obama the last word)!
He gave a great answer no question but having that loaded question thrown at him still hurts him anyway. That was the idea. The only thing that woman was “undecided” about was whether to vote early for Obama or vote for him on election day.
… or both.
Nothing prevented Romney from suggesting, in his response, that Obama tell us how he’s different from … Jimmy Carter.
Consider the parallels. Carter brought his crew from Georgia; Obama brought his crew from Chicago. Carter had a failed energy policy and high gas prices; Obama has a failing energy policy and high gas prices. Carter lost a major ally in the Mid-east (Iran) who became an enemy; Obama lost a major ally in the Mid-east (Egypt) who is becoming an enemy. Carter had a testy relationship with Israel and favored its antagonist (Egypt); Obama has a testy relationship with Israel and favors its antagonist (Palestinians). Carter imposed windfall taxes on oil companies who were making “too much money”; Obama demonizes oil companies and talks derisively of people who have made “enough”.
Carter left office after one term, and was replaced by someone better; hopefully Obama WILL leave office after one term, replaced by someone better.
Terrific post. My compliments. Would that Romney call attention to President Obama’s dismissive description of comments stating concern about Israel’s vulnerable to nuclear attack from a government of Iran intent on wiping out the Jewish state: “noise”. Recent presidential history does suggest that presidents impatient with, if not downright hostile to, Israel tend not to get re-elected.
I’m not sure how many of us remember the miserable Carter years. I do. It would take too much time and entail too many facts for Romney to educate the audience about the parallels – and they would zone out in the middle.
Speaking of energy, Obama has been lying like a rug on everything having to do with that topic. Case in point:
Coal miners to Obama: YOU LIE!
Outstanding post, Raymond DC! Maybe there is still time to get yourself hired by Romney so you can coach him for the final debate. As it looks now, Obama will be getting a second term and will have more time than Carter did to degrade American power and strength.
WHY DON’T ALL DEBATES MOVING FORWARD START WITH QUESTIONS FOR THE MODERATOR?
1) Do you support either one of these candidates over the other in any way, shape or form?
2) Which political party do you favor?
3) Have you ever served under either party administration or been associated with them in any way etc.?
This is just a rough list, but this should be a requirement to start a debate to draw everyone’s attention to media bias, and to get whoever the moderator is to realize he/she must behave (or try to).
A couple audience members seemed, quite frankly, incapable of producing those long-winded questions, such as the one about Bush. One lady couldn’t even remember the question, but had to pause to get the card out refer to it. It was pure media info-tyranny, and I hope viewers saw through it. I agree with other suggestions that this dig-in-your-heels-leftist media partnership with Obama may backfire on him. They just don’t know how to be subtle. We can all see that the media is anti-democratic. Too bad most youth can’t seem to. They just wanted their pictures with Barack after the debate.
Romney should have a list of Bob Schieffer’s leftist credentials, and open the final debate by directly confronting him and the entire media in one fell swoop:
“Last week when we debated I had to contend with the moderator, and it’s no secret that, you guessed it, she supports Obama. Mr Schieffer, have you decided already who you are going to vote for?” I’m sure there are a lot of questions or approaches like this, but Romney needs to learn from what Gingrich did to John King, and adopt it in a personal manner. The people in the audience might not cheer, but the voters and viewers everywhere surely will.
Yes it was a biased question, but since the charge that romney will repeat bush is also a favorite obama talking point, it actually did romney some good to be able to reply to the charge and differentiate himself from bush.
Bryan ~ d’accord.
Keep an eye on this, it is about damage control for Obama. This is about keeping the Jackson’s silent about what they know about the Obama’s And how Patrick Fitzgerald and the Tribune protect Obama..

As Obama’s cover story comes down, the curtain goes up on the USAO’s cover-up of J.J., Jr.’s role in the Blago story
http://illinoispaytoplay.com/2012/10/05/as-obamas-cover-story-comes-down-the-curtain-goes-up-on-the-usaos-cover-up-of-j-j-jr-s-role-in-the-blago-story/
Candy Crowley brazenly changed the subject, rescued Obama from any discussion of Fast & Furious. The U.S. government sent arms to mexican drug gangs and they were linked to over 300 murders. It was covered up with executive privilege. This is Watergate only with 300 dead Mexican citizens and two dead American border agents! And she deflected the question and then ended the segment and moved to another question. Unbelievable act of journalistic deceit.
Just wait. The next debate is on foreign policy. Fast & Furious most certainly falls into that category. Romney can eviscerate Obama on this. He has to do it.
It would be nice to believe that Fast and Furious was going to be the explosive issue that it should be, but it won’t. The MSM has done such a masterful job of keeping the story under wraps that likely 85% of the viewers have no idea what it is all about. Obama will state, as he has many times, that it was an unfortunate program started by George W. Bush and was terminated by the noble efforts of Eric Holder. At which point there will be insufficient time to educate the audience and refute the obvious lie. Schieffer will declare it to be a complicated and controversial issue that time limitations prevent discussion of and say “we must move on”. And the vast majority of viewers will say “huh, what was that all about?”. A president that lies, a biased and insincere moderator, and an ignorant audience is all that it takes to keep the issue under the rug.
Honestly, I believe that this was her worst moment in the whole debate. “Correcting” Romney on Libya was ridiculous, but intervening on the President’s behalf on Fast and Furious is absolutely despicable.
She should be ashamed of herself, but libs have no shame.
Crowly set out to help Obama..and she succeeded…but she also succeeded in puting a stake in the heart of the MSM.
I’m beginning to think having MSM moderators may be a brilliant Republican strategic plan in the age of the internet.
I thought last night vs Denver demonstrated clearly just how much assistance Obama needs in order to give an appearance of competence. Republicans have been forced to become extremely competent and ethical during the past 30 years, while Democrats have had the bar lowered more and more both in ethics (“a live boy or a dead girl” wouldn’t even be enough to cause a Democrat to lose an election any more!) and intelligence (see “Sanchez sisters”). We need a president who can keep his cool during tense situations surrounded by hostile adversaries; CNN’s debate showed us just what Romney can do. He was one of my least-favorite primary candidates (not lowest only because Ron Paul is insane) but he’s demonstrating that he could manage the job.
Let’s be realistic. A “Town Hall” style presidential debate with questions provided by “undecided” voters in NY state? Questions selected by a moderator who had previously declared the challenger’s ticket to be a “death wish”?
Gov. Romney did exceedingly well, considering the circumstances. As for Obama, I could easily suspect that a line of coke might have helped his performance, if only to increase his energy levels. It certainly didn’t improve his record, or his native mendacity, or his ignorance, or… =’[.]‘=
Hear! Hear!!
These “townhall” debates are absurd and should be dropped completely. They’re completely staged. The candidates don’t pick audience members, the mods do. The questions are prescreened. There’s so much opportunity for shenanigans, it’s ridiculous. And that was clearly on display tonight.
Townhall debates give the msm moderator the cover they need to funnel talking points to the Democrat and gotcha questions to the Republican. They can always just say it was the questioner who pushed that button, not the mod. Slimy worms.
The GOP needs to rein in these outrageous debates. Far left, blatantly in the tank for the Democrats, poor structure — what are they thinking when they just go along with these things and make no protest whatsoever? They are so weak.
Exactly… A couple audience members seemed, quite frankly, incapable of producing those long-winded questions, such as the one about Bush. When is some conservative scion or clique going to buy a major TV network and fire these people? (Or just start up a new one if necessary).
I thought he looked high when he first got on stage, too. Explains the way he couldn’t really construct comments that were internally consistent or were not non sequiturs.
It was obvious Obmama knew the questions in andvance, his intial reponses were way to canned and practiced, not to mention too many softballs lobbed at the Prez. Romney did very well considering he had to debate two opponents.
I agree Candy Frog gave the questions to Dimwit Obama
If she chose the questions she did a good job.
Obama was put on the spot time and again. I am shocked an old media person would allow an opening for Fast & Furious and the Libya debacle.
She screwed up by sticking her nose in regarding 0′s statements but all in all I was pleasantly surprised.
Mitt won this debate. You can’t bitch Candy too much.
Bill,
She didnt expect a Fast and Furious link to that question…
It was about AK-47′s, so she was baiting the “bitter, clinging, gun nuts” hook…
You know, setting up a response by Obama about those evil Racist Tea Party People who shot up that theater, because we all know Republicans are happiest when the streets flow with the blood of children.
Candy knows assault weapons as good as any Liberal.
She knows they are a club, used to exclusively attack Republicans with.
But Fast and Furious?
I can assure you, Candy has never HEARD of any such thing.
Can anybody please tell me why, every four years, the Republican agrees to debate under these conditions? Why?
The audience will always be stacked to the hard left, the questions will be heavily stacked in favor of the Democrat, the pre- and post news coverage will heavily and dishonestly favor the Democrat, and the moderators will always be pathologically dishonest, hard-left zealots.
I am mildly surprised that they even lit Romney’s half of the stage tonight, or that they didn’t have a duck constantly quack or a dog constantly bark whenever Romney spoke. Liberals are utterly incapable of shame, rationality or integrity. They see viscious and continuous lying and cheating as honorable and noble things.
For the Republican, debating under these conditions is like volunteering to be tied up and beaten, for no particular reason. Again – why?
Conventional wisdom has for decades assumed that just putting the challenger up on stage in a position of nominal equality with the current president always helps the challenger. And, in fact, presidents now have a history of always doing poorly against the challenger in the first debate of their campaigns for another term.
Perhaps it’s just as well that Reagan only had one debate — i.e. just the first debate — against Carter (which following the historical pattern, he won handily)
The last president already in office to win a landslide election was Lyndon Johnson, who refused to debate Goldwater. Goldwater had the press against him as much as Sarah Palin does today, and Johnson used vicious TV commercials to portray Goldwater as a cartoonishly militaristic right-winger whose finger should not be allowed anywhere near the nuclear button. Who knows what would have happened if Goldwater had been given the same chance Romney got to stand next to the president and show how well he measured up to the job? (Assuming of course that he did — it’s difficult even to have an opinion at this late date as to how the Johnson-Goldwater debates might have turned out.)
Exactly! The RNC’s playbook for the last 20 years has been: Lead with your chin!
Sorry but I really miss Newt. He’s the only one who won’t let the likes fo Candy Crowley own the narrative.
We really didn’t have a choice. We needed the debates (as you can see from the results) because it was the only way Romney could give his position unfiltered. It would be better to have actual debates and have the moderator as timekeeper (see Lincoln/Douglass, although those were more speeches than debates).
They played MSNBC off Fox and we were stuck. The first moderator was scared of being called biased and was fair; then the cocktail circuit kicked in and made sure the rest would follow the DNC playbook. We’ll see what happens the next time; of course, if we complain it will be portrayed as whining.
In Lincoln/Douglass, Lincoln needed the debates and accepted all of Douglass’ conditions. Which worked in Lincoln’s favor, as Lincoln had greater physical stamina and Douglass ended up having to drink to keep up (really!). Although Lincoln did in fact lose the “election” (it was actually to elect the state representatives, who would choose the Senator).
– just an Charlie Uncle Nan Tare
I truly think the public is getting it, and a tipping point is being reached that will rival the 2010 elections.
I see far more conservatives posting, and hitting like button on posts, and realizing that they are not alone. That makes for a very powerful voting bloc, and with this happening they are getting the confirmation that the lame stream press is wrong, biased, and wanting to see the country tank.
And if you don’t think the lame stream press is feeling this, just think about how hard they have to work to induce people to buy their rags. Currently I get one year home delivery of the Sunday paper for less than 11 cents a copy. Worth it for the sports, cartoons, coupons, puzzles and lining my bird cage with the rest
Anyone have an email address for Crowley?
I’m compelled to send her a comment or two.
Candy Crowley—never let a waist go to crisis.
Just sayin’.
The Propaganda and Lies Ministry thinks it’s a “fair” debate when the moderator is writing a laudatory book about their candidate, or the moderator is on their candidate’s wedding registry or the moderator has announced that the ticket she politically opposes is “a death wish”.
The news station that is most watched in the nation is not allowed anywhere near these rigged debates. That is, when America tunes in for TV news, the station that represents the largest segment of viewers, is blackballed.
If ANY of those “bio” issues were presented in the OTHER direction, there would be so much screaming it would puncture the eardrums of the hard of learning leftists themselves.
It’s not that it’s not fair, it’s that is near criminal.
First, when Romney runs for his second term and the democrats are forced to negotiate the debate forum, Romney needs to insist that since one of the 2012 debates was in a bluest of blue state like New York that at least one of the 2016 debates be in a state like Texas.
Second, who gave Jabba the Hutt a wig and told him he could moderate a debate?
I want these stupid non-events discontinued. It would serve the Republic much better than these entertainments designed to show off media superstars.
Without the debates Romney would still be running behind. They’re crucial for getting around the media filter (at least somewhat with the heavy-handed moderating). Romney’s managed to rise above the incredible obstacles and that’s the best thing for voters to see. Otherwise their picture of him is exactly what the media wants it to be.
We need the debates. They just need to be better handled.
From what little I heard between the end of the debate and the cut away to Luntz (which was mostly what I was listening for), it sounded like both the questions from the audience that Crowley picked as well as her behavior trying to help Obama out of a spot constituted the ref tackling Romney. Set-up immediately sprang to mind.
I think these cockroach crashes have no business playing a part in picking a president – it’s too serious a business and debates favor the shallow and glib pandering to the uninformed. When they are set up to use MSM superstars and they are allowed to help out the Democrat and interfere with the Republican’s answers, it makes them tools of the MSM who never want to see a Republican elected. The Debate Commission should never have allowed itself to be bullied into changing the ground rules on the day of the debate. Again, premeditated mugging came to mind. And what does the silly git do after the fact, when nobody is paying attention? Gee, now that she thinks about it, Romney was right on the facts regarding Obama’s stonewalling on Bengazi. That’s like the scab refs saying they were sorry they got the Packers’ interception call wrong a day later. Fat lot of good that did the Pack’s record.
“Gee, now that she thinks about it, Romney was right on the facts regarding Obama’s stonewalling on Bengazi.”
When I hear this kind of crap, I say to myself if the Reps were smart, they’d put this in a PAC commercial against Obama.
Then I say to myself, if the Reps were smart they wouldn’t put themselves in this position to begin with.
“No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for.”
That, commmenters, was the line that Obama and Crowley said proved Obama characterized the attack on Benghazi in the Rose Garden Speech, a terrorist attack.
Of course, the language doesn’t do that at all.
Which proves that both Obama and Crowley lied on national debate TV. I always knew Obama was a pathological liar. I didn’t know Crowley was one, too.
In the third debate, Romney will have a field day with this.
At the third debate Obama going to have his head handed to him.
You didn’t know Candy Crowley was a pathological liar? She’s a member of the legacy kneepads media. If her mouth is moving, she’s lying.
1. Candy Crowley fulfilled her mission, to bias the debate against Romney, as well as could be done short of making silly faces like Vice President Biden.
2. Her admission of being wrong over what Obama said about the Libya disaster was rubbing our noses in it. And yet, somehow CNN will claim that it proves she is an “Honest Journalist” [I know, oxymoron alert].
3. Her career prospects are now greatly enhanced, both at CNN and possibly in a future Leftist administration; because she has proved that she has no scruples and will do anything for the Dear Leader of the moment.
4. Still and all, this is a strategic win for Romney. Even with the blatantly biased format and moderation; Buraq Hussein Obama could not change the arc of the campaign. In fact, the cheating made him look weaker. What he had to do was credibly embarrass Romney and re-establish a credible dominance. He failed. He did better than in Denver. But he did not do well enough.
Net result, it hacked off a lot of people, but I am pleased with the result. Some day, there will be payback.
Subotai Bahadur
Surprise, surprise!!!
Gallup (the DOJ threatened pollsters) selected the “audience”; Crowley the moderator was not only allowed to pick the questions but also the questioners. Obama, with help from Crowley, was able to make a continuous attack on Romney; because THAT’s all he’s got left … character assassination.
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT SOMEONE NAMED ‘CANDY’ WOULD BE FAT AND STUPID?
BTW: One day I’ll print a retraction.
Ahem….it depends on where you meet this person named “Candy”.
Within the MSM or pretty much any liberal venue (but I repeat myself) – it’s a high probability.
In a location with a lot of vertical brass poles and adult oriented ‘entertainment’, not so much…lol.
^^
Gee thanks Mike. However I’m not stupid!!
Sorry, Candi –
I was trying to be as politically incorrect as I could in order to counter how politically correct that idiot Crowley thought she was.
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT SOMEONE NAMED ‘CANDY’ WOULD BE FAT AND STUPID?
I’d say: Pretty good.
I’ve never seen a fat stripper named “Candy”.
I GIVE CANDY 10 RADDATZIZZ
As per comment made earlier:
http://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/2012/10/13/beyond-the-bradley-effect/#comment-1618560
BIASED MEDIA, THY NAME IS RADDATZ
When journalists lie, the rating system should be a ‘Raddatz’. Also, when politicians lie, the rating system should be a ‘Raddatz’. For example, Ambassador Rice should get 10 Raddatzizz for her misinformation campaign on Benghazi.
Definition: A Raddatz is a liberal who’s so biased she has no idea that she’s actually biased. Also, a respected journalist who is outed on TV for being biased.
Then there’s the Raddatz Effect: It’s when the opposite of what you want happens because people smell ‘a Raddatz’.
I think what we saw tonight was Candy applying for a job as Press Secretary if Obama gets re-elected.
I think what we also saw tonight was a very un-presidential president crying out for help: “Candy, Candy”. It was pathetic.
But, I would guess, Candy goes down as just one more person carrying water for this president.
CANDY SEEMED TO BE BRIEFED ON WHEN TO JUMP IN.
Like a Manchurian Moderator, she sprang into action the minute POTUS made his false claim about calling Benghazi a terrorist attack.
Crowley could have been much worse. Obama scored points just for being awake.
but every Obama answer had a LIE or confusion tactic.
Romney scored strong by getting the in the point that Obama after hearing of the attack “flies to Las Vegas for a political fund-raiser, then the next day to Colorado for another event,” and “And this calls into question the president’s whole policy in the Middle East.”
Anderson Cooper called Crowly on her facts.
Just like in the days following Biden/Ryan the facts will come out
I was blind-sighted by Babmi’s neatly creased pants too. ;o NOT
The questions coming directly from Crowley were such a load of obvious planted B.S. that it was despicably shameful and obviously geared to save the gormless twat-head-in-chief from another embarrassingly brain-dead delivery.
I’m disgusted too, but, I’m definitely not shocked by the pukes.
It must be nice to have the Media shuckin’ and jivin’ for your pusillanimous ass 24/7.
It’s a bit late for all the pouting and hissing. See above, under Stupid Party.
Romney’s team and RNC were warned about Cowley, loudly and often, and did nothing.
From what I saw (about half), Romney did OK — which is not enough when up against the media. What is difficult about the idea that debates are to be won not weathered?
Self-inflicted harm ranks up there at the top of the pile of useless things, right next to unrequited love. By Jove, Cholmondley, I do believe I detect a chorus of piffles and twaddles from the old boys at the club. Not our kind of chap. Rum do, what?
Also no way to win.
Unfortch…
Rom Rom brought a butter knife to a drone fight. He did okay but he should have kept his zipper unzipped.
Crowley interrupted Romney 28 times and obummer only 9.
Plus she outright LIED about obummer calling the terrorist attack a terrorist attack.
If I was Romney (good thing I’m not) I’d have said out loud (when obummer brought up immigration) that the president killed over 300 Mexicans so how could he be pro-hispanic.
Obama told an outright lie about what he said in the days after the terrorist attack. Even if Candy did not recognize it for its utter mendacity, the American people did. We have all heard enough “just words” from Obama these many years to know when he is lying. Lying and daring anyone to call him on it.
People are getting tired of the outright favoritism of one candidate by the MSM and their interference in these debates. I understand why they do it, BO has to be shielded from tough questions and from fair competition.
As a female, my view (for what it’s worth) is this debate was not as negative as Biden and Raddatz were in the VP debate. When Romney stood toe to toe with his Highness on drilling permits, I loved it. Calling Obama a liar on this is long overdue.
Candy apparently is heavily into candy. She obviously isn’t following Michelle’s diet recfommendations.
George W. Bush showed how a president acts: he took responsibility for 9-11, the anthrax attacks, the intelligence failure and disastrous war in Iraq. If Bush can take responsibility for what happened on his watch, certainly Obama should be able to as well.
You’re dreaming, Brutus.
Leftists/Commies/Pinkos don’t use conventional wisdom.
And, thusly, never take responsibility for their own failures. It’s always ‘the other guy’s fault’ no matter how many power grabs they take and how much control they have. It’s a recipe for disaster they will never be held accountable for (even when they have the faulty flour on their faces). *ahem*
….or stains on dresses.
They don’t care, Bryan. You know that. They think we’re just working the refs, and don’t understand the true offense we take. Or think we need to be challenged anyway, because we are “wrong” on so much.
It’s war. Plain and simple, and needs to be treated as such. I have said before the MSM is the center of gravity of the Left, and with this Presidential Debate series see no reason to get away from that. I hold no hopes for Bob Schieffer’s performance. As Star Trek once asked–how does a barbarian figure how to act civilized? It’s all about world view and whose good opinion you want to hold onto at the end of the day.
If this Republic is to stay healthy the Debate Commission has to change, because having 45% of the population convinced every major institution is deliberately gunning for it is a good way to get a backlash generated that won’t be belittled away. As far as the media–as Fox News showed, free enterprise is the answer here. A better product just needs to be put on the table by new organizations.
When I saw & heard Creepy Crowley (Any relation to Aleister ????) stop Mitt Romney in his tracks when he was correctly and forcefully confronting Obama on Fast & Furious, I had it. Had I been Romney, I was have gotten right in her face, and asked here if she would like to come up on stage and change places with him, as she was very deliberately, and very blatantly injecting herself into the debate to defend Obama.
While I’ve already written off the mainstream media as a house of whores, Crowley’s constant interference on Obama’s behalf during the “debate” propelled me to previously unknown heights of rage and anger. Romney did a horrible job defending himself against her bias, as once the moderator takes sides, it was his responsibility to challenge her and call her out on it.
While Obama might have “won” the debate last night, I think ultimately this “win” will come to haunt him, as the moderator’s bias, and Obama’s lies will be quite obvious to the independent voters, and will turn off the very woman he was desperately trying to woo back into his camp.
I’m so wishing Newt Gingrich were the nominee right now, as he would never, ever would have allowed such a spectacle to take place. Say what you want about him, but I’m really loving his idea of Lincoln/Douglas style debates at this time, and I’m sorry we will never have the opportunity to see what they would have been like.
Alexander the Great
Some unexpected bytes of knowledge, if knowledge it might be called, are these … Lehrer is old school, rather too decent to play foul. Martha Raddatz is not old school but not quite ex-school. Candy Crowley is today’s school, who believes a lie is a lie only when it has been proved it did not work.
Don’t we ever learn? I was hoping after the disgraceful treatment of Sarah Palin 4 years ago that all Republicans would have learned to have renounced the MSM. Newt was the only one who did. Hey, Mr. Romney and all you other nice guy Republicans: We don’t have to tolerate the MSM. Insist on a fair and honest moderator.
Why did the GOP accept Crowley – or any other lib – as moderator?
It’s not a question who to accept, it’s a question who to reject.
Before debates, 3 networks have been submitted: CNN, FOX, MSNBC
Democrats rejected FOX, Republicans chose a “lesser of two evils”, CNN.
The counterproposal should have been one of each.
If I watch the last debate I will have to increase my blood pressure medication. I found myself screaming at the television last night. The bias was oozing from Crowley’s pours. Every question to Romney was hostile and every one to Obama was a softball. When the clock ran out on a response and the speaker continued to talk, if it was Romney, she cut him off. If it was Obama, she let him continue. She would as a “when did you stop beating your wife?” type question of Romney, he would give a response, then Obama would make some outragious lie about it and Crowley would not let Romney respond. It was a completely despicable performance. She outright lied when she was supposedly “Fact Checking” about Romney’s statement on the Libya attack. Romney was clearly debating two people at once.
Never heard of Candy before and, if the GOP has got a lick of common sense, no one will ever see her on a debate platform ever again.
Over at CNN, they’re doing the victory dance for Obama. The clear and undisputed winner! Who is this “Romney” guy, anyway? No bias at all…
Not to worry, Obama failed.
On the other hand, she let some questions to Obama go by that shocked me. These are questions the MSM would never ask him in a debate. So I would say her performance was mixed.
Crowley is a Democrat Liberal Progressive Shill, (Prostitute would be unkind). CNN for God’s sake! When will the Republicans ever learn? (There should also be a ‘”bar of ugly” a moderator must rise above before being allowed on National TV)
IMO there is no way she could have been prepared to defend BO’s false claim he identified the Benghazi attack as a planned terrorist attack UNLESS she knew he would make that claim, and she could not have known he would lie about that unless she or her staff had briefed him on the question. That whole question/answer was planned to defuse the Libyan issue which can destroy Obama. How many questions did he know of in advance? And why was Romney asked to differentiate himself from Bush? Because the left media still believes most Americans hold Bush in disregard.. BO could have been asked (but wasn’t) to differentiate himself from Clinton and he could have promised he never had sex with a presidential aide ….maybe…. By selecting/allowing that question Crowley really showed her colors…
Prostitute would be unkind because nobody in their right mind would pay 5 bucks to get within the same zip code as that sow.
Indeed,
And that sublime creature of loveliness,
The Goddess Sandra (“The Fluke”) Puke
needs thousands upon thousands of other peoples dollars,
for contraceptives?
Seriously?
Low Gas Prices are a catastrophy and a burden,
while High Gas Prices make our bills and expenses lower.
You cant make this stuff up folks.
They really are just as Orwell said the’d be.
To be honest, I’d rather see someone with a few wrinkles (like Susan Estrich) or a few extra pounds, like Candy, than the creepy overplasticked Stepfords usually on TV news.
Candy Crowley is Rush Limbaugh’s cream-dream gal, because she makes him look sleek, dashing and hyper-intelligent by contrast. Just kidding, Rush, but I don’t understand why Rush is not chosen to be a moderator in place of at least one of the four Marxist faves that the Commies have put forward. What Republican ever agreed to this bulls**t?
A local radio talkshow host, of rather conservative bent, said before the debate she discounted concerns about Crowley, thought Candy would do Okay and that she was a Candy Crowley “fan.”
Normally do not listen to her show, but I will be interested to hear what she says today about Crowley.
Read more of my article: http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/10/once_biden_twice_barack.html#ixzz29YodvmqT
In your article you said:
“‘They’ will call it a win, but the President knows he lost. One need only have looked at his face during the proceedings.”
You’re right. It was particularly evident in several split-screen shots.
Remind the voters of Clinton?
You mean those voters that have such good memories they they think Bill Clinton deserves credit for reforming welfare?
Obama clearly slipped a groove on the energy policy speech (for the younger that means the needle skipped to the wrong song) it was strikingly odd even for him, he didn’t seem to realize that he was responding with the wrong canned speech for a good fifteen seconds and then it was too late. Crowley was OK up until she rescued O on the Benghazi mess, to the which the Left-overs in the audience inappropriately clapped. Just another day in the MSM….
Evidently, the rules were changed to allow Crowley’s inclusions and the Romney camp was politically outmaneuvered to force an agreement. This show was destined to be about Candy Crowley. I thought Romney did well until he got blind sided by Crowley and that threw him off stride. The gas price defense by Obama was ludicrous along with his energy policies in general. The George W. Bush question was an obvious “gotcha” that Romney fielded.
Candy Crowley moderated Mitt Romney. She enabled, rescued, and lionized Barack Obama. Shameful excuse for a “moderator”.
Basically, Obama admitted that the actions of the Fed have devalued the dollar. Gas prices are higher than ever; a backdoor tax hike for the little people (who needs groceries and gas), while the benefit was redistributed to the too big to fail banks. Glad to know he saved the “Economy” by picking my pocket. Yeah you Goldman Sachs, Bank of America; that was the money I was going to use to buy diapers. Saving the “Economy” requires sacrifices from everyone, now Tommy don’t tell your mommy but I’m going to need that last piece of bread that you are eating to save my too big to fail corrupt bank. I know, I know, your mommy needed gas to take you to the doctors, sorry buddy, in times like these your mommy needs to stop being so selfish, everyone has to pitch in to save us from our own greedy mistakes. Run along now, tell your mommy that we appreciate that she is paying more for groceries so that we can continue running our banks with reckless abandon.
Don’t worry Tommy, we have devised plans to prevent this from happening in the future. If we provide free abortions, then perhaps we can convince people like your mommy to kill you before you are born, then she won’t have to worry about putting food on the table and gas in the car. Thanks again for taking one for the team. Never forget THE ECONOMY is more important than your individual needs.
Oh and Tommy, tell your grandpop we appreciate the sacrifices he has made. We never could have propped up our too big to fail selves if he hadn’t sacrificed the interest on his savings. Thanks old man, now go take that sugar pill that you got instead of a pacemaker.
Nope, they’ve sown the seeds of their destruction there. Look, everyone in America agrees on one thing: there are too damn many liberals. We’d like them to change their minds, they insist on killing themselves off (ESCR, abortion, euthanasia) or ensuring there aren’t any new liberals to begin with (gay marriage, contraceptives). If they hadn’t killed off all the young liberals, they wouldn’t have needed ACORN. Remember four years ago, when then-Candidate Obama enlightened us that if his daughter were to become pregnant, he wouldn’t want to punish the family with another Obama (and by extension, the country, I guess)?
I’m pro-life as all get-out, but I only have so much time and energy to spend pleading with liberals not to kill themselves off as a demographic.
Believing Barry’s tall tail on gas prices is a result of ignorance is incredibly ignorant.
During the VP debate Biden looked like he was a red wig and a clown car short from finding his true calling in life. Last night Obama looked like the kid who’s dog ate his homework and he was trying to talk the teacher into giving him four more years to get it turned in. It is time to call a failure a failure and move on. Obama/Biden are nothing more than an empty suit combined with an even emptier head.
I disagree. I think O’Blamer looked like someone who ate the dog.
And then blamed it on the dog’s previous owner?
Yes, one should ask. Why is The Republicans allowing the Democratic Propaganda Media have any role in the debates? Do they liked to be tortured? I say no, Even-tough MSM power is substantially diminished, they still do have some residual influence over uninformed Americans. What Mitt did last night not only exposed BHO once more for what he is -Empty Suit – He also put one more nail on MSM coffin. Even MSNBC couldn’t categorically defend Crowley. I can guaranty it, in 2016 no lefty will moderate any serious presidential debate because will be no MSM.
Honestly, all i’m seeing from Leftists in my social media feeds is inane comments about “women in binders.” I take this as another sign Obama blew it, even with an East German judge as moderator.
“Full-O-Candy” Crowley! What did anyone expect? She works for CNN.
I have it on good authority that Candy Crowley is actually Robert Gibbs in drag.
WHY would anyone continue carrying water for this grifter?
Uhblame-O needs a hand up in EVERY facet of his life.
Illiberal’s sanctimony over this intellectually-void nowhere man has been apparent for so long.
Even stacking the cards, in this case questions and biased moderators in his favor has proven to be a moronic endeavor.
Honestly, Illiberals. You can put ANY Illiberal state Senator’s name in a hat and have a more ‘reasoned’ candidate.
This ‘leader’ is a frightening joke.
The regime’s media.
Simple obvious fact: Obama hid behind a skirt last night. That’s what those with two interacting brain cells in their head will remember.
When Romney takes office, he should remove the “by seniority” seating in the press room (Hell, he should remove *all* the seating) and provide press passes to all the radio talk shows and blogs. Don’t ban the left wing MSM maroons, just make them work for a living.
And what kind of a Democrat does Obamba think he is…. He’s supposed to blame high gas prices on greedy Big Oil!
Her job was to throw the lifelines at appropriate times, and she gets an A+++ for doing it spectacularly well.
She should be fired and banned from working in the media for life.
The Libya lifeline has to rank among the most outragesous acts by the media in American history.
And I just heard that repeated by co-workers as FACT, along with the confident declaration that “you don’t EVER want gas to go back to $1.86 per gallon! That means the economy is bad!”
I also learned from these estimable co-workers (who were gleefully discussing how Obama crushed Romney) that “starving the government: (Romney’s plan) is really the same thing as the stimulus package that Obama favors.
The depth of ignorance of basic economics is staggering, and it’s the norm.
Wow! Your co-workers are dumber than a bag of rocks. I hope you laughed in their faces…..
That’s the really bad, really scary part.
They are NOT dumb. They are some pretty sharp engineers.
They are mal-educated, deliberately.
They are the norm.
Candy Cowly admits she got Bengazi wrong: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-sheffield/2012/10/17/video-candy-crowley-admits-romney-was-correct-about-libya-attack
Did Candy ever get aroung to “fact-checking” Obama’s specious assertion that he increased drilling permits on public lands? She just let the two exchange a playground “Yes, I did; no, you didn’t” banter which got nowhere. I know of no study that confirms BO’s sudden pro-drilling stance. Facts are slithery things to Leftists.
“We are at war with East Asia. We have always been at war with East Asia”
And, it came out last year that Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms. It’s like he doesn’t go to any of his briefings or something.
Considering the debate was 2 against 1, Romney did well. Crowley and almost everyone else at CNN has a liberal bias. We need non-biased moderators in future debates.
Perhaps it is time that the Republican party refuses to participate in these sham debates until ‘moderators’ are chosen who truly act impartial. If they cannot do that they do not belong there. A mid-point check as to whom has had the most time, another one at about 3/4 and an announcement that because ‘x’ has had less time they will be entitiled to make it up. Any moderator who says the things before hand that Crowley did is out. If they are obviously being biased during the debate let the commission yank them, right then and there. Reschedule if possible, if not drop the damn thing. I have been fed up with the media since 1964 and I think it’s time their chain got pulled good and hard. If the Commission that supposedly organizes these things can’t ensure an even handed approach then phooey on the whole thingl.
60% of tv viewers no longer believe or put trust in the MSM.
After Crowley’s disgraceful, disgusting display of liberal bias,
that number has jumped to 90%.
They just can’t understand the fact they are committing professional
suicide. And, it’s not even working! Romney’s lead continues to grow.
The really big winner last night? FOX NEWS CHANNEL! Period.
Jim Whittaker
Hemet, CA
I totally agree. Yet even with all of Crowley’s help, Obama did not take advantage. Romney still came across as better prepared, more presidential, and certainly got his message across while pointing out the failure of the Obama administration. Even to the most casual political observer, Crowley’s bias was pretty obvious.
Why are these people not fired for their performances? Not only was she wrong, she is ugly.
I will never ever hear her name again. . .
Fire the Muslim communist Øbama. That is the only thing we need to do. Then send the communist party hightailing it to Russia. I am tired of their Negative impact on our carefully crafted way of life. . .
If we fall, the whole world fails. Who wants that? Not many I assume.
Get creep Lying Øbama out of office and all of his Muslim, communist cohorts. . .
ASAP
How could I possibly take issue with such a well-reasoned position?
/sarcasm
Why bother mentioning unemployment, or energy, or the deficits, or Fast and Furious, or a dead ambassador or any other reason to oppose the president, when you can call him names?
Obama deserves a second term as much as he deserved his Nobel Prize.
Next time, debate moderators should be: Republican Governor otf the Republican Party’s choice. Democratic Governor of the Democratic Party’s choice. Flip a coin for who moderates which debates.
Neither party could pretend to be neutral, which would make it less likely that either would be overtly partisan without getting called on it. Unlike our professional journalist class.
Candy (big as a cow) Crowley did what she had promised to do from the start, protect Obozo from himself. To wit, she did a great job! Congratulations Candy! you’ve helped contribute to the destruction of the country that has protected and nurtured your fat a$$! You’re going to love it when you’re on reduced rations and the pounds melt away… ala socialist Russia.
Looks like Crowley was one of the replacement refs… She blew a 4th Quarter touchdown call that gave the game to Obama.
Why can’t Brit Hume moderate a debate?
CBS “moderator” Bob Schieffer, you’re on notice.
Yah right, what are you going to do? Reinstall CBS on your remote just so you can delete it again?
We don’t need journalists as moderators. A 12 yr old could do it. And more fairly.
Putting these clowns on ‘notice’ doesn’t seem to do a damn thing.
Either we make Jim Lehrer moderator forever, since he’s the only one we’ve seen in the past decade who seems to understand the job, or the GOP must simply refuse to accept moderators from the press/media.
Period.
I was in the car, hearing it on the radio. I turned it off when I heard Obama say that Romney wanted to let Detroit go bankrupt. (Yes, I only listened for about one minute)
Wish Romney had replied that, in his opinion, it was a local government that spent more money than it took in which had made Detroit bankrupt, not a Presidential candidate.
GM went through bankruptcy under Obama’s watch. The scandal is that he used unprecedented executive powers to deprive property owners (read = Republicans) of their property rights while bestowing riches upon others (read = union members, in good grace as long as they vote Democratic). Of all the scandals in this administration, the GM swindle is perhaps the worst. And Obama did use our taxpayer money to buy UAW support. The irony is that Mitt Romney cares about the American automobile industry, while Obama is only worried about where he can throw his prayer rug when the call from Mecca comes.
Give Candy the ovation that she deserves. She never pretended to be anything other than a hired Obama hack, devoted to saving his bacon. She delivered for Obama, so she did her job. But I think Romney came out okay, because he said what needed to be said, despite Candy’s best efforts to destroy him.
Heck – A steamroller with a computer brain could have done a better job as debate moderator;
What? She is a steamroller? Oh, never mind…
Emily Litella
Could the people in the Republican party or the Romney campaign who have been responsible for agreeing to having these leftist, Obama-supporting “moderators” running the debates and injecting their bias, not just for these presidential debates, but for all of the primary debates, be fired from their jobs? They are doing the party and the country no favors.
Everyone I know is asking the same question. Even today there are intelligent journalists (not necessarily an oxymoron!) plying their trade who could perform a fair job of refereeing an honest debate. Why did the Republicans allow the Obama administration to pre-select these aged hacks whose idea of fairness is whacking away at Romney’s shin bone? It won’t matter in the long run, because no one with an ounce of intelligence will vote for Obama unless they are on the federal payroll, one way or another, but I do wish that the Republican establishment could show a little more spunk.
Well, I believe the MSM and our Left feel that they are exempt from consequences because they are under Divine Afflatus.
People remember and memory is cumulative. Eventually justice will be done, and nothing can save any of them.
Romney failed to make the points on the issues like GM, gas prices and economy, Libya, ObamaCare, et… I can’t help but wonder what he was thinking… We can only hope that the foolishness of Obama and Candy will be enough to cause the ‘undecided’ to ‘see’ the truth. Romney should have NAILED it.
So why aren’t judges used as moderators? They would be far more qualified than “journolists” IMO.
I agree with you, but there is no way in the world that Obama would agree to face the questions that Clarence Thomas would ask him. In our heated debates I often forget what riches that African-Americans like Justice Thomas and Dr. Sowell have given to us. Judges are as human as you and I. What is needed is simply a person with a sense of fair play, but those people are weeded out well before they become personalities in the world of the MSM.
IMPORTANT!!!How did Obama know Crowley had the Rose Garden transcript in front of her???????????????????????///He pointed to it and said read it!
Is there any doubt in our minds that Candy leaked her questions to Obama beforehand? In her defense, Candy has never pretended to be anything other than a shill for the president’s reelection campaign. It’s not as if she tried to bury her hatred of Romney and Ryan and the Republicans in general. The fault lies with those Republicans who agreed to her being a moderator in the first place. You don’t put your foe’s sworn friend in charge of these things. But Romney performed well in the debate, and he will win the election, despite Candy’s most strenuous efforts in support of Obama.
Oh no!!! Obama won the debate so it must be a LIBERAL CONSPIRACY!!!
How is it that when Obama loses a debate, it’s because Obama has no ideas and America rejects liberalism, yet, when Romney gets his behind handed to him, it’s everyone else’s fault! It’s the moderators! It’s the questions! it’s the liberal media!
At some point, you people are going to have to take responsibility for the fact that you nominated a terrible, flip-flopping, empty suit, Etch-A-Sketch candidate who looked like he was hit by a freight train every time he had to deviate from his talking points. Once he’s used up his “Five point plan” and “I’m a business man” talking points, he’s got nothing. Absolutely no substance. He deserves to lose, and you all made this happen by being Yes Men for a party that no longer represents Americans. Romney already had an uphill battle to the presidency based upon the Electoral College numbers, and now it’s looking increasingly like he has absolutely no plan to make up this deficit.
Please, proceed, Governor.
Mike J., we’d probably have a lot of fun sharing a pitcher of beer, but I hate to break the news to you now. Romney did not lose the debate, although Candy Creepy-Crawley tried to throw it to Obama. Your man Barack Husein Mohammed will have plenty of time to enjoy his luxurious new digs in Hawaii because the 53% of American people who work and pay taxes are fed up with his socialistic projects. He’s on the way out.
As a wise man once said, “There you go again.”
You just can’t help yourself but blame Candy Crowley for Mitt Romney’s failure. Romney had opportunity after opportunity to make his case, but failed to. He tried desperately to score zings on Obama, and it backfired each time. Whenever he was dragged from his talking points, he floundered. Candy had nothing to do with Mitt’s inability to adapt, improvise and speak off-the-cuff. PJ Media is reacting as if this woman was physically restraining their man Mitt from debating.
Hey “J”, is that choom Hawaiian or Humboldt? Or just plain old shit scraped from the side of the Cesspool. Mmm, mmm, mmm!
Hey C. Blunder, time to get a fix and lick boot or what? Stoned on Kiwi no less!
You people! The Cynical Thing comes in from the cold! Remember? “There you go again.”
“At some point, you people are going to have to take responsibility for the fact that you nominated a terrible, flip-flopping, empty suit…”

So how about it? Pass the choom bro, Candy needs a little more incentive. Maybe you could play Ringo, or maybe Candy too!
Buck, buck, buck.
He WON the debate did he? Because gas prices are always low when the economy is about to collapse. Yeah, we all remember the seventies when gas… oh, wait. They were through the roof and rationed to boot, and we had stagflation. And, btw, Obama, like I was, was alive at the time and should know better. Of course, he was chooming, so…
Then there is the fact he’s going to go into communities and prevent “impulses” — yeah, that’s what I want. Thought crime. Double plus ungood…
And his expressions were suitable for the cover of a book called “Malevolent Gnomes.”
Spin it as you like, but NO ONE IS IMPRESSED by a commander in chief who has to hide behind a woman, even if the woman probably has double his amount of testosterone. The optics are perfectly horrible. Kind of like Obama’s economy.
The moderator cut Romney off what? 4, 5, 6 times when it was obvious Romney had Obama’s number, saying he was off topic. That’s like the umpire calling a home run to dead center field a foul ball.
Wait a second. What does Crowley mean when she claims Romney chose the wrong word? Huh? How does that work? The word was “terror” and in the Rose Garden speech Obama made (on Sept 12) a vague reference to “acts of terror” — this could have been interpreted as a reference to 9/11, 2001. Obama did not say Benghazi was a terrorist attack. He blamed “the attack” on the YouTube trailer. So, even Crowley’s claim that Romney “chose the wrong word” is yet another misstatement.
What struck me most about the debate were the several times when Obama flatout asked Crowley for help to keep Mitt Romney from clarifying or rebutting things said. In fact, once it appeared that he was even trying to order her to change the subject. If that doesn’t make him look weak, nothing does.
1. who cares (that you hate the media)
2. you are. (biased)
I noticed that the questioners flocked to Obama and Moochelle to get their pictures taken after the debate. The little gal Lorraine (whom Obama “mistakenly” called Lorena at first) hugged Mooch so tight I thought they were sisters. I only saw one participant–an older woman–eager to be near Romney. Maybe one other conversed with him, but they were clearly thrilled to get a pic with the next past President.
The Bitter Cow moderator was told by Axelrod, that her future was on the line if she didn’t tow the Messiah’s line! Between the coordinated efforts of Cowley & Obama, they still couldn’t win the debate, without a psychotic spin machine running at about 11,000RPMs! The only people who think Obama won, were already Obama supporters! Indi’s & “True” undecideds saw a shameful night for the Obama Enemy media’s further lack of credibility and an EMBARRASSING performance by the Failure-in-chief!
I keep telling people these squishes in Politics, Newt has it right! There’s no reason to take this Hack behavior on the part of the Obama enemy media. You have to fight them as well. Here’s How to take on the Obama Enemy media & Win: http://paratisiusa.blogspot.com/2012/09/an-open-letter-to-those-who-should-know.html?spref=tw
God Bless America!
In spite of the sychophantic demeanor and coddling of Obama by Candy Crowley,
these adverse conditions did not prevent Mr. Romney from excelling at the debate.
Even the CNN post-debate poll of undecided voters placed Mr. Romney far ahead of
Obama in approval ratings on most of the major political issues.
Well done Mr. Romney. Well done.
Last night’s town hall format did Mitt Romney no favors. He was as explicit as possible, given the 2 minute limit on responses, and the moderator did not see fit to be as fair with him as she was with Obama. Ms. Crowley obviously favors the democratic party, as do most of the msm. Obama interrupted Romney frequently, and his pedantic responses and explanations were well-worn and completely predictable, and boring as hell. Nothing new chez Obama. He is the most visible example of “affirmative action” that I have experienced in my lifetime. Btw, I have lived my life in Chicago, and know of what I speak. ty
The debates are too short, and the time to respond is also. It really is a joke, in my opinion. Let them stay up there for a while, get comfortable, get nervous – it’s good for democracy.
no responses?
I GIVE BOB SCHIEFFER 10 RADDATZIZZ
(in expectation he’ll be just as bad as the other two moderators)
I don’t remember the exact incident but it involved an Obama team lie or gaffe. Schieffer had a person directly involved in the misstatement on his Sunday show, but refused to go there.
Schieffer’s BS reason: He had just gotten back from vacation and didn’t know what had happened.
In defense of Candy, it has to be said that she never pretended to be neutral. She said upfront that she was going to be part of Obama’s re-election campaign, and she certainly came out swinging on Obama’s behalf. If Obama had been half as honest as Candy, he would have scored better, considering that she kept giving him the football on the 10 yardline.
Do these liberals not understand that when Obamacare is implemented they will suffer as the rest of us will? Are they so stupid they think they are exempt? It brings our the worst in me; I find myself hoping that when the rationing starts they will stay at the bottom of the list.
Don’t know why Republicans agree to these moderators. They need to tell the Debate Commission to endeavor to provide impartial moderators or they won’t play.
Why has the fact that Chris Stevens was gay being kept on the downlow?

Bob Schieffer’s “on notice”? Are you kidding? Do you think he cares? He’s going to do EXACTLY the same thing Crowley did. This is what these people do, and THEY DON’T CARE whether you like it or not. THEY. DON’T. CARE.
I’m sorry, but I blame Romney. They had every opportunity to call out this hack liberal cow and failed. It’s unbelievable he and his team couldn’t see what was coming. But yet they seemed totally unprepared. They could have made a Reagan moment out of this. He’ll have another chance to blow it with Schieffer.
I think it’s a plus. Obama completely failed when he had to debate Mitt Romney by himself in the first debate; he managed to almost look competent only when he had a huge amount of assistance from the babysitter in the second. The booger’s on them to show that Little Barack can put his big boy panties on by himself in the third debate.
Mr President, you didn’t build that debate win by yourself; Candy Crowley helped you. (And it’s no wonder he has that mentality, considering how much help HE needed.)
Who the heck is this Candy Crowley woman everyone keeps talking about… I saw Romney, Obama and the 70′s rock singer named Meatloaf. Why was he in a debate?
So, Romney should have ignored Obama and debated Crowley instead. He should have made a point that she was not telling truth.
I’m all in with Romney, but he and his team should have known Crowley and Obama were going to cheat and been prepared to deal with this Benghazi issue decisively. A previous poster is spot-on- it could have (and should have) been a Reagan moment for Romney, embarassing both Obama and his lapdog media hack.
Owebama will chicken out of the next debate. I predict a strike in Libya on Sunday, lots of pictures of little o in the Situation Room doing his best impersonation of looking Presidential, and “I have no time for a silly debate. I am the President.”
I like how polished the questions from these “undecided voters” sound.
Most of the people I know who are still undecided about this election would have been asking questions like:
Who’s your pick for the Superbowl this season?
The President had a “Beer Summit”. Cool. If you had a “Beer Summit” and invited me, what kind of beer would you serve?
America is being attacked by aliens. Would you use nukes to fight them?
I wonder if Bob Scheiffer will wear a burqha in the next debate so jugears will have a BIGGER skirt to hide behind?
Jim Lehrer has always presented himself as a gentleman to my knowledge. Why would anyone expect him to act differently when moderating the first debate? Yes, he may well be a liberal, but he was raised in the old school, When you showed respect for those around you and conducted yourself as a civilized human being. A debate is a rational presentation of opposing views in a formal manner. The purpose is to cause others to think about a given subject or topic of discussion. A debate is not supposed to turn into a fist fight. If the next moderator does no better than Crowley in keeping decorum in the discussion, I would expect to see some act of retaliation on the part of one or both of the candidates. (I don’t care how much of a gentleman you are, most people will defend their physical health and well-being when attacked.) Of course I could be wrong. I sure hope so. But the last debate was a sham primarily because the moderator did not comport herself properly. She should have already been fired from her regular job if her employer had any amount of self respect. It would appear to me that they do not.
Candy Crowley was made an honorary Secret Service agent, because nobody protected the President at that debate like she did…
