Outdoing themselves in the misogyny department (well, maybe not – they have a long way to go), the religious psychopaths who run the Islamic Republic of Iran have now banned women from many university courses, inluding English lit and computer science. From the Telegraph:
In a move that has prompted a demand for a UN investigation by Iran’s most celebrated human rights campaigner, the Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi, 36 universities have announced that 77 BA and BSc courses in the coming academic year will be “single gender” and effectively exclusive to men.
It follows years in which Iranian women students have outperformed men, a trend at odds with the traditional male-dominated outlook of the country’s religious leaders. Women outnumbered men by three to two in passing this year’s university entrance exam.
Senior clerics in Iran’s theocratic regime have become concerned about the social side-effects of rising educational standards among women, including declining birth and marriage rates.
Marry a mullah? Wow, there’s a treat. Of course women are outperforming men in US colleges and universities as well, but we don’t have a religion that demands their oppression. Until Islam is reformed, the muslim world will continue its death spiral. Let’s hope it doesn’t take us with it.
A USIA that wasn’t moribund would devise these courses online and make them available to anyone in Iran who cares to learn them.
Could it be that the Iranian women do better because they haven’t been raised from birth to be frothing, ululating, war-hungry barbarians; unlike the Iranian men who have?

How’s that any different from the west? Maybe we need to institute affirmative action for male college applicants.

IIRC, several years ago, Ahmadinejad appointed an imam to the post of Chancellor of Tehran University.
That man bragged that he had only studied one book in his life — the Koran.
I love how these regimes shoot themselves in the foot. Don’t they realize that they are depriving themselves of their own best and brightest? Don’t they see that this is likely to retard their own progress with science and technology?
But hey, at least they’ve ensured that fragile male egos won’t be threatened any more.

Anything that contributes to the country of Iran getting more stupid is fine with me. I sincerely hope all Iranian women emigrate to somewhere they can better themselves, and stop producing any more Iranian males. We’ll all be better off.
