Listen as poor, downtrodden EPA Regional Administrator Curt Spalding tells an audience just how tough it is for the EPA to crush working people in the coal industry.
SPALDING: But know right now, we are, we are struggling. We are struggling because we are trying to do our jobs. Lisa Jackson has put forth a very powerful message to the country. Just two days ago, the decision on greenhouse gas performance standard and saying basically gas plants are the performance standard which means if you want to build a coal plant you got a big problem. That was a huge decision. You can’t imagine how tough that was. Because you got to remember if you go to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and all those places, you have coal communities who depend on coal. And to say that we just think those communities should just go away, we can’t do that. But she had to do what the law and policy suggested. And it’s painful. It’s painful every step of the way. (emphasis added)
Yes, that’s too bad.
Spalding’s comment reinforces the notion that the Obama administration is following through on the president’s promise to destroy the entire coal industry. President Obama made that promise as a candidate, and his own campaign energy plan did not include coal at all until ridicule forced the campaign to add it. Spalding’s comment is also a useful reminder that former EPA Regional Admin Al “crucify ‘em” Armendariz was not alone in his extremism. Curt Spalding as administrator for the EPA’s Region 1, which covers CT, ME, MA, NH, RI and VT. He needs to be fired.

Another ad for Mittens.
I don’t know what else we expected. It’s called the “Environmental Protection Agency,” not the “Environmental Protection As Long As It Doesn’t Ruin Anybody’s Life Agency.” People are not a priority.
Progressivism has it’s roots in Communism and anyone who says different cannot look up historical records, nor read a book. For Mr. Spalding to claim Coal Usage is somehow violating Laws is just beyond the pale.
E P A Rules, not passed by Congress are what is being ‘violated’ here.
Congress abrogated this task to The E P A a while ago, and refuses to re-assume it’s responsibility. No ‘Laws” are being broken and the people being affected by this buck-passing crud are truly Victims of Our Government’s Malfeasance.
Communism never did worry about incidental casualties and it would seem, neither does Obama’s Administration.
Which is where this screed began………
Clearly, we have defined “environmental protection” to mean that anything which ‘damages’ Earth is BAD. Energy production, except to a limited extent non-fossil/non-nuclear, is BAD. Wood production is BAD. Water use is BAD. Population growth is BAD. Economic growth and human progress is BAD.
We need to terminate EPA with extreme prejudice. I do not advocate a return to the Love Canal days, but we need to get this Agency under some control with greatly reduced authority. Of course, that will fly in the face of the Woodrow Wilson proposition, so near and dear to the hearts of the Democrats and other “progressives”, that the Federal Government alone should be the arbiter of our world, our liberties, and our individual rights [never mind that silly old Constitution and the archaic idea of States' Rights].
I’m sorry, you people of coal towns, but tough choices have to be made. It’s either you or the Environment, and, well, you have to go.
“Wait! I thought it was Republicans who were heartless? Isn’t this Dems being heartless?”
“No, not at all. This is very different, because go away and shut up.”
Firing this schmuck will do nothing. The agency needs to be eliminated — after all, Article I section 8 says nothing about “protecting the environment”.
