#Julia, and Leftism’s New Media Problem
The Obama 2012 campaign released the epic government-fueled travails of “Julia” today, a slideshow supposedly relating how an Obama presidency can benefit the life of the average American woman. “Benefit”, as in pay for each of her progressive-approved hipster doofus life-choices (“Age 22: She starts her career as a web designer”).
Right off the bat, “#Julia” trended to the top of Twitter as the second-most popular current hashtag in the United States; to the horror of David Axelrod and the increasingly dated tacticians of the Obama campaign, virtually every mention of #Julia was a conservative mocking the slideshow. The most distressing problem this latest new media “organizing” tactic presents for the Obama campaign is the same problem that new media — ahem, PJ Media — presents for leftism in general. On my count, the last five hashtags introduced by Obama’s campaign have been instant public relations disasters; another smear tactic backfired into the legendary #ObamaEatsDogs. They keep trying, however, and that’s because propaganda, sloganeering, and various issues for rallying the rabble are the only weapon in the progressive toolbag. Alinsky’s toolbag. Lying, and cliches — hey, everyone go buy Jonah Goldberg’s new book, by the way — are the means of pitching doomed-to-fail ideology as successful. And the lying works wonderfully when the effort needed to combat and debunk the lies is great: when we couldn’t get a word in if we couldn’t get Walter Cronkite to say it, “Julia” was a winner of an idea.
Now, conservatives get their retaliation halfway around the world while Julia is still getting her shoes on. For an administration raised on Alinsky, the growing evidence that Alinsky is outdated should not sit well.
Let’s remember that “Julia” was the name of the lead character in the first black mother & professional woman primetime TV show.
Coincidence? I’m betting not.
“Julia” was also the title of a movie, starring Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave (two of my fay-vo-rite actresses – not!) based on Lillian Hellman’s mendacious book, “Pentimento”, which told the story of Ms. Hellman’s purported relationship with “Julia”, a friend that Ms. Hellman claimed was a part of the anti-Nazi resistance in Vienna. It turned out that “Julia” was one Muriel Gardiner who had never met Lillian Hellman. Seems like our president learned a thing or two about autobiographical writing from that Stalinist harridan.

Yeah, now THERE was a feminist icon/role model who whimpered her way through life taking her little tin cup from one government program office to the next, looking for handouts… No, that’s not quite how it went, did it? Well unfortunately Obama’s “Life of Julia” is pure fantasy (in more ways than one). But to make it realistic would be real simple.
Age 3: Unchanged.
Age 17: Unchanged.
Age 18: Julia is unable to get one of a “Opportunity Tax Credits” or Pell Grant as is any other person who is Julia’s age. Julia is one of the last people in the US to graduate from a public school. The US Government has officially gone backrupt and is unable to pay for any social programs incluing: Social Security, Medicaide/Medicare, Grants, Loans, Schools, ect. Nor is the US able to support its own basic functions as almost all of the money taxed has to go to pay for interest.
Under Romney the US has averted bankrupcy allowing Julia to work hard, spend wisely, save money, and pay for college or not go to college and get a highly sought after trade skill.
It might sound like it might be tougher under Romney, but the reality is the US will still continue to function and provide most of the services that has been expected from it.

Feminists defend politically engaged women against perceived “attacks” unless the women being attacked are conservative, in which case feminists either remain strangely silent or actively join in the smears and ridicule (a la Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman).

There is a real danger in assuming that the Obama campaign is damaged by these “public relations disasters.” The fact is that as long as they don’t give up trying, sooner or later they are going to stumble on something that is damaging to the Republicans and Romney then all of the previous ineptitude will MAGICALLY be forgotten. The only issue that the MSM will care about will be the issue that does damage Romney and this will be drilled into the voting consciousness until it really does create a problem for Romney. Obama’s team seems to be adopting a shotgun strategy knowing that for all of the abuse they have to endure now will pay off in spades once they do find an issue with legs.

The problem with honest people using Alinsky tactics is this: Like wrestling a pig in mud, you get dragged down to their level, where they beat you with experience.

Much more importantly, it showed that the internet had made available the skills of all micro-specialists and subject matter experts: a true distributed intelligence system that finds facts and establishes the truth within a tighter OODA loop thand the MSM and government spin doctors..
We saw it in operation again during the Hiszb’allah-Israeli war of ’06, with the complete and rapid demolition of much Hizb’allah propaganda, especially the faked ‘Israeli attack’ on the ambulances, the activities of ‘Green Helmet guy’ (AKA the paleosimian kiddie-corpse fiddler), the activities of ‘Wailing Real Estate Woman’, the complicity of the media in posing kiddies toys and korans in rubble, the complicity of Reuters in touting Hizb’allah photoshops as real images, and so forth.

Now we have another fictional character, this one a faceless cartoon, who must be supported by the state throughout her miserable life. What happenned to proud indepedent women? Ann Romney can be criticised for being a housewife dependent on her husband but “Julia” is commended as being a ward of government programs. With loans coming due for the portions of her overpriced university education not covered under “free” government programs, she finally lands a job as a patient care assistant at the local retirement community. Her nurse supervisor is one of the so called “stupid kids” she teased in high school because they were going to the local vocational technical school instead of college. The supervisor now has a high-demand, portable job with low student debt where experience is valued. Julia’s education and skills marketability have the half-life of skim milk.

I note that Julia’s first ‘benefit’ comes at age 3, and the last one mentioned occurs at age 67. Both, 64 years apart, are proclaimed to be ‘under Obama’. Is he really declaring an intention to become emperor for life?

Obama thinks that just because his team beat the angry old man and his dingbat sidekick that they are certified political geniuses. Plouffe and Axelrod ran an excellent campaign, yes. Sice then they have been the masters of disaster. They seem to think that they are running for mayor of Oakland, CA or Cambridge, MA. They have alienated the entire white vote which represents 80% of the electorate; as in, ten times the number of blacks. This Juila thing is just another example. Faceless Julia looks suspiciously like the faceless young woman portrayed in 1930s era Soviet propaganda by I. Smirnov. To see the communist Julia, look on page 145 of Steven Heller’s superb book: “Iron Fists: Branding the 20th Century Totalitarian State”, published in 2008 by Phaidon Press. This is the second time Obama has used soviet imagery in his campaign material: remember the young woman with a head scarf giving a big shout out? That came directly from A. Rodchenko’s famous poster for the Leningrad branch of the State Publishing House in 1924. Obamabots keep going back to the same well. They can deny it all they want, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

If you haven’t yet read his 2011 book, _Righteous Indignation_, now is a perfect time to do so. This whole Julia thing — both the piece itself and the backlash — are extremely accurate examples of the principles and trends the book lays out.
