Gas prices aren’t the only prices to have skyrocketed in Barack Obama’s America. Disrupt the Narrative takes a look at price trends across several staples that Americans buy to get by. Here are a few:
The price of sugar: UP
The price of ground beef: UP
Now we’re getting into dangerous territory. The price of coffee: UP
And maybe the most offensive price spike of them all. The price of bacon: UP
Look, I’ve had the bacon shake at Jack in the Box. It’s no substitute for the real thing, and the charts don’t lie: In Obama’s America, you’re paying more for your real bacon and your morning wake-me-up too.
It’s fair to consider what might be causing so many staple prices to rise so dramatically over the three plus years that Obama has been in office — storms and weather effects on supply, instability in our own economy and in international markets and so forth — but the rise in the price of gasoline seems to track pretty well with the rise in the price of bacon and other essentials (yes, bacon is an essential). Two of the president’s more visible policies contribute to the rise in oil prices.
It’s gets tiresome pointing this next bit out, but that doesn’t make it any less true. If Obama were a Republican president, and Americans faced this kind of wallet slaughter at the local HEB under that Republican president’s watch, the mainstream media would be having a ball with the story. We would get treated to a daily barrage of “Here’s another thing you can’t afford” tales of woe from the heartland. Today it would be bacon, tomorrow it could be coffee, then they would move on to the burger and the box of cereal so that by the time the stories have all run you feel like you’ve gone into hock just to put ham and eggs on the table. Which, in Obama’s America, isn’t far from the truth. Then, the MSM would tie all of these price hikes back to two things: The oil drilling permitorium and the scuttling of the XL pipeline. They wouldn’t tie those stories to the Republican president out of love for oil, but in an effort to paint the president behind both of those decisions as the out-of-touch cause of your dinner table anxiety.
But by and large we’re not hearing those stories. The media that largely invented the “misery index” to describe Jimmy Carter’s awfulness has apparently uninvented it to help hide the connection between Barack Obama’s policies and the way your money just keeps sprouting wings and flying away.

C’mon…you should know by now that all those commodities you listed are “bad” for us. I would add to list: electricity and light bulbs. Soon, we will be priced out of all those markets, sitting at home in the dark, un-diabetic and asleep.
All predictable in November 2008, but we had to learn the lessons of the 70′s all over again, thank you. Inflation: a tax on everything, affecting everyone. The remedy is austerity, also affecting everyone. Good grief, why do we allow socialists to repeatedly screw us so?
Why the surprise? Everything you do is tied to the cost of energy. If energy costs more, then you can expect everything to cost more as well. Here’s the real thing that I don’t hear any comment about.
High energy prices are not an accident. This is deliberate policy. Try and remember that the next time you buy gas, that the price of a gallon of gas is being imposed on you to insure someone elses political agenda. The greens have for years pointed out that the biggest impediment towards the adaptation of more green technologies has been the relatively low cost of fossil fuels.
Hey presto! – we elect a President who throttles the use of fossil fuels, they go through the roof and now solar and wind can compete…
…or so goes the theory.
In practice, Solar and Wind have also risen in price as they are also tied to the cost of fossil fuels since those systems must be created in the first place and at their manufacturing source and their transportation leg, they too are using oil.
If the leftist greenies were truly interested in making America “energy independent”, we would remove the legal restrictions to converting cars to use CNG, a process that is quite easy from an engineering standpoint but is chock full of legal restrictions and fines. Get that? you can actually take your existing car and run it on a new fuel, only some bureaucrat says “no”. You acn even fuel your own car at home by using the Natural Gas that is already shipped to your house. Remove these artificially imposed restrictions, let the market take over and watch gas prices fall as people decide for themselves what is the better fuel for them to use and for suppliers to provide.
Oh, see, right there is my basic flaw. I keep thinking I’m a free person who can make his own choices for his own reasons. Silly me…
And don’t forget that feed costs for pork and beef since much of our corn crop is being diverted into our gas tanks.
The whole thing is a vicious cycle.
Also, a translatio for non-Texans… ‘HEB’ is a grocery chain.
Maybe Saudis are purposely withholding production to drive up oil prices, doom the big O in upcoming election, and get someone in White House willing to go toe to toe with the mullahs.
The suds are dryin’ up. Those moslims cannot put much more into the pipeline. And that is a good thing. The sooner moslems run out of oil… the sooner they have to pay $2000.00 a pound for wheat.
Then the moslem Satan will die.
The above charts clearly illustrate the inflation folks are having to contend with daily. I would be curious to see additionally, however, the numerous items that have been downsized in terms of quantity, e.g. single serving yogurt containers, etc., but whose prices have not been correspondingly reduced, i.e. paying the same for less product. I believe these quantity reductions would demonstrate equally well that inflation is roaming freely across the entire grocery, never mind the gas pump.
Yep, inflation is greater than what the Obama says.
The “Official” obama figures omit the inflated costs of fuel and food. To be fair(something a democrat/obama/liberal would not be)the measure was perverted before President Downgrade.
So , minus food and fuel.. it looks pretty decent.
Heh.
There is some truth to all of the above, but the principal reason for the rise in commodity prices is the devaluation of the dollar. Commodities are priced on the world market. When the dollar falls against the Euro, the yen or the yuan, eventually dollar prices of commodities will adjust higher. It is much like inflation, just not caused by printing too much money. Reducing interest rates to near zero will work just fine to devalue a currency.
The kicker is, wages, savings, dollar instruments — these things don’t adjust. You simply lose.
Lets have three cheers for Obama and Bernanke.
That is part of it. The general overleveraging of public finances in the USA, Europe and Japan is causing massive investor unease with the states of western economies right now. As a result lots of investor cash is flowing into commodities. Pretty much anything that is a real, physical asset is at or near two year highs right now; be it oil, gold, wheat, lumber or frozen concentrated orange juice.
As long as some administrations are worse than others when it comes to the decline in purchasing power of, in this case, the US dollar, why should the Presidential candidates be the only one’s absorbing all the oxygen?
Who are the Republican Senatorial candidates, and what do they have to say?
Actually, for obama voters bacon cost less.Food-stamp is free to them.
Interestingly in counterpoint, I just got a good deal on a used Weatherby.
Better stock up on ammo before Obama’s second salvo against the 2nd Admn.
another term for Obamunism and the 2nd is one and done.
You need not worry. I have enough that I will win the battle and re-supply off the losers, or they will do so on me.
Only…… I will not be alone.
Exactly…
You dont need a million rounds buried somewhere “secret” you’ll never be able get to when the stuff hits the fan….Hand to mouth is how much of it will be, and thats not a problem…
Another reason for picking “fruit” that is, ahem, “easily digestable”, rather than some elegant and exotic variety…. you’ll have a hard time “feeding yourself” with fancy tastes like that.
Nuff said
Well, these people seem to believe in peak everything an are bound and determined to make sure every resource is peaking in an infinite universe. OMG its Malthus! Its alive! The universe is off limits, again! Apparently before we can go to the stars all the sandboxes have to be the same, poop free, have sterile beach sand, and grains of equal mesh size.
The problem with Hubert depletion theory is the “n” variable. Where n is the total amount of a resource. I accept his general depletion theory from discovery to production to depletion as a general rule. The problem with the “dire straits’ crew is the unknown variable “n” which is total resource. All Hubert depletion covers is “known” resource.
Take away progressives/romney/obama and “peak oil” is fools gold.
Which is why Obama has to talk about contraception, abortion, the Catholic Church, anything but the economy. And I’m getting sick and tired of the government telling me that inflation still isn’t that bad, EXCEPT for gas and fuel. I’m sorry, I can’t eat a chair and I can’t drive a shirt. The two most important things in all of our lives, gas and food, are skyrocketing and nobody seems to be paying any attention to it. But I know one group that is: MOMS. If the Republicans are smart, they will bring this up constantly and the suburban Mom vote will be theirs. It’s a big vote and these ladies almost always vote. So broadcast it night and day and it will be a real winner in the fall.
You are right, but unfortunately, too many women wont listen. Its like talking to liberal Jews about how gun control is a dangerous power to give to the government….they just dont get it.
Unfortunately I’ll get slammed for this, but the reason most women vote Democrat is dependency…most women still spend thir lives fed and sheltered by:
1) a man funding house, or
2) the government doing it for them.
Not enough of them are truly “independent”, and they tend to see the world as whoever offers them the best deal (be it food stamps, or a McMansion in the burbs)
When candidates talk giveaways and higher taxes on ‘the rich” , their perk up and listen, wondering whats in it for them.
Smart women “flee the D” because they know the scam, but the “D’s” can count on just enough of them to tip the balance more often than not…
That deep baratone Barry White voice “you know I love you baby” while they get pimped out…a real shame they fall for it, but they do, to the peril of us all.
Hmmm, corporations opposing Onumbnuts and his policies get proctology exams, punitive rules, and public excoriation.
And you wonder why media corporations are toeing the line?
We have voted in Tammany Hall – the chicago version – and it will be a long time before we gget the infestation out.
I just heard from Michelle (16 Vacations) Obama that there is No Misery index at all.
She’s finding the getaway to Aspen to be very refreshing and is quite able to clear her mind of all those cluttering things like the cost of organic foods at the High End stores where she shops.
Regardless of our genuine experiences, those cooked numbers her husband are feeding the MSM and the MSM dutiful repitetion of those numbers are supposed to suffice in keeping us content and focused on getting for more years of Vacations and Lies.
You fark with the price of my Coffee and my Bacon, and I declare a Fatwa against you.
Signed, One Really Peeved American
Hope ‘n Change!
We have a gov’t that cozens the importation of well over a million people a year into this country and yet they see no connection between higher prices, unemployment and 300 million people as opposed to 200 million fifty years ago.
Our grandchildren will spit on us before we’re even in our graves for not only ignoring the completely irresponsible population explosion in the Third World but importing the runoff. Crisis are created daily in the Third World and so the least excuse a “refugee” seeking “asylum” in the U.S. Not only are we increasing our population but importing the least productive people who exist on our planet, to the tune of 90% of new immigrants in the last 10 years.
People who have “faith” that all cultures are equal and that osmosis and a plane trip raises IQs have never seen the shanty towns of Rio, the people living in box cars skimming garbage dumps in Guatemala City, the bubbling canals of raw sewage in Djkarta and Belize City, the cratered “streets” of Kathmandu, the disappearing rice fields of Bali amidst hoards of motorcycles, women urinating in public in Peru and men defecating in trash heaps for lack of public bathrooms in downtown La Paz, Bolivia, the black smog of New Delhi, donkeys in downtown Cairo and the teeming poverty of Mumbai.
The idea that people suddenly will become productive that have not once in centuries shown a sign of it in modern Western terms is a well-meaning but faith-based joke.
Excellent and frighteningly true assessment.
Though politicians and the PC, EEO/AA advocates, people who have TRULY TWISTED the meaning of, ‘liberal’ call these multi-generational 3rd World families/neighbors, ‘multicultural & diverse’ living.
The downward spiral of a community/ city is quick and unrelenting.
We’d experienced such a disgusting phenomena in a mere 2 years.
My wife and I lived West of D.C. in concept city – Reston, VA. Much like Centennial, CO. A tech city for single and/or no children working couples.
Due to ‘progressivism’ it has a homeless shelter NEXT TO their library amongst other blight.
Whereas visiting the library you or YOUR CHILD WILL see homeless, sometimes methadone-induced homeless loitering in front of the library, sleeping in the library, pretending to read a book, trying to access pornography (whereas D.C.’s library system has little/no blockers on their computers so homeless at the MLK library constantly look at and peruse porn) via YouTube and like-minded sites. All the while stinking of cheap alcohol, cigarettes and unkept sanitary needs.
As well as using the bathroom sink as their shower, I won’t go into the nightmares of the bathroom stalls etc.,
Lastly, there’s a tent city LOOONG before Occupy (insert city name) came to fruition ~20 feet from a sidewalk in the trees. Litter, clothing strewn hundreds of feet along the pathways and this ‘city’ only growing in size.
I’d spoken to the Sheriff’s Department voicing my concerns. My wife will walk the same path at times to get odds and end groceries. The Department said as long as the area’s ‘clean’ (?.. other than stating the myriad of legality issues the area is not clean..) there’s nothing they can do!
Suffice to say Section 8 Housing, drug, graffiti/ gang problems are becoming the norm throughout the city.
Meanwhile we recently moved to Asia whereas we thankfully had a colleague/friend and his family rent our home for our being unable to sell it.
We specifically chose the area for its distance FROM said problems in D.C. Instead bleeding hearts MOVE said problems to our doorstep, in the name of, ‘fairness’.
When we do make it back to the states I’m resigned to putting the horrible sailing classes/ courses my Dad had us kids endure and buy a 38′-44′ power yacht. Live amongst the p/t snowbirds, trustfunadarians in a security controlled marina.
Obozo our clown in chief told us that under his plans, the cost of energy would skyrocket.
So as you fill up your car, or pay more for goods that are shipped, one can thank Obozo, as he is probably sitting in the White House, laughing his butt off at how stupid we are.
But in all likelihood, you won’t find him in the White House, but on vacation or at the golf course, on our dime, laughing his butt off.
I’ve noticed, “high-end” gas stations, like Sheetz, Wawa, etc. are now pushing pepperoni as a bacon substitute. So, like, a PLT (pepperoni lettuce and tomato.)
Die, bastards, die!
It is inflation plain and simple. The Clown in Chief and his Puppet Master Benanke has made the dollar worth less and less buy “making” more “money” available with the “easing” and “buying” our own debt. All this was inevitable, and is just the beginning.
In 2 two years these will seem like the good old days, and if the current Clown gets reelected you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Since I can’t show my shock face like the etrade baby, I’ll show this video http://youtu.be/8qHmXMMCrlI
“Everybody’s money is nobody’s money.”
We will drown in the rising tide on inflation before the country will understand what Obama has done.Governments always blame storms or weather, or economic instability, or greedy merchants, for inflation, as Milton Friedman documented.
This is not news to me. Anyone who buys food knows that prices have gone way up and sizes have become smaller. The last time I bought some bacon, addmittedly not on Michelle’s approved list, it was $7.00 for a less than a pound package. I noticed that the price was higher the last time I was in the supermarket. Recently I received a case of horsemeat dogfood by mistake. The seller told me to just donate it rather than send it back. The Humane society refused to send a truck to pick it up because of the cost of gas.
There’s another way Obama makes it cost more to bring home the bacon, for the people who are hurting the most — the working poor.
“Cash for Clunkers” destroyed reliable used cars desperately needed by the working poor, and in doing so inflated used car prices. Once, somebody struggling to get by on $9 an hour could buy a fairly reliable used car for less than $2000. Since CfC, it’s almost impossible to get one for less than $4000. This leaves people stuck with their old rust-buckets. They can’t save for the $4000 cars because they’re having to spend their transportation budget on one costly repair after the other, and on gas to fuel up the *real* clunkers that get far worse fuel mileage than the “clunkers” destroyed at Obama’s behest.
Now Obama’s paying $10,000 bribes to people making more than $170,000 a year to convince them to buy Chevy Volts. That $10,000 would buy TWO more reliable and more fuel-efficient vehicles for poor people struggling to get by on $17,000 a year.
Nobody has done more to screw over the working poor in this country than Obama and the other greenies.
