Rewind: New York Times hailed Awlaki as “a new generation of Muslim leader”
News that Al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki has been killed in a drone strike reminds me of the praise heaped upon him by the New York Times following the 9/11 attacks when they described him as “a new generation of Muslim leader”:
Imam Anwar Al-Awlaki, spiritual leader at the Dar al-Hijra mosque in Virginia, one of the nation’s largest, which draws about 3,000 worshipers for communal prayers each Friday, said: ”In the past we were oblivious. We didn’t really care much because we never expected things to happen. Now I think things are different. What we might have tolerated in the past, we won’t tolerate any more.”
”There were some statements that were inflammatory, and were considered just talk, but now we realize that talk can be taken seriously and acted upon in a violent radical way,” said Mr. Al-Awlaki, who at 30 is held up as a new generation of Muslim leader capable of merging East and West: born in New Mexico to parents from Yemen, who studied Islam in Yemen and civil engineering at Colorado State University.
CNN is still following suit this morning, calling Awlaki an “all-American boy”. Not kidding.
Islam is a strange, upside down religion. Its top clerics, like the Mullahs in Iran or Sadr in Iraq, or even terroists like al Awlaki, keep getting it so wrong! How can Islam’s top religious figures also be it’s worst misunderstanders??? And how does it come to pass that while those top clerics get it so worong, that supposed laypersons like George W. Bush, Obama, and many others say they understand it more than those clerical misunderstanders, who are supposedly the experts…? Are the likes og GWB, Obama, and even many writers here at PJM actually the REAL Imams of Islam, and all those others fakes?

Very few people commenting on Islam these days have actually read the Koran and Hadiths, or know anything about the history. It began with a man who was orphaned when his father died when he was an infant; he was given to a wet nurse, and later returneed to his mother, who died when he was six. An uncle became his guardian. At 25, he was married to a woman 40 years old. She enabled his secluding himself in a cave, and helped him conclude that he was a prophet.
Allah is modeled on Al-Lat, a Bedouin moon god of the time. Mohammed was quite unsuccessful in gaining adherents, and his early verses of the Koran were the more conciliatory ones. Later, he gained adherents, and verses in the Koran saying that looting other people was OK probably helped in that regard. The only half-decent parts of it are borrowed from Judaism and Christianity. It states that slavery is OK, and lays out the relationship between slaves and masters.
The Arabian peninsula has not even one permanent stream of water. The population was thin, and there was not much to do except herd goats, raise camels, fish if you were on the coast, and rob people. It is a tribal society even now, and the tribes fought one another constantly.
Sometime around 622, the fighting and bloodshed began. Mohammed was no cleric – he was a brigand, and he conveniently got “revelations” saying it was justified to raid other people, and “slay and be slain” for Allah. verse 8 says (Allah is supposedly speaking) “I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.” This is why there is a sword on the flag of Saudi Arabia.
Islam is actually not a religion. It is a totalitarian political ideology disguised as a religion.
Mohammed “married” many women. One was an ex-daughter-in-law; another was a 6-year old who was given to him when he was 53. Even today, “clerics” in Saudi Arabia say it is OK for men to have sex with children as soon as the little girl can bear the weight of the man.
The whole thing is disgusting. Most Muslims do not know how disgusting, because they do not speak Arabic, and live in nations that were conquered by Islam a long time ago. Many of them have ancestors who were forcibly converted. The war has been going on for 1400 years, but we haven’t noticed because until recently, the Saudi Arabians, who live where the whole thing began, were too poor to carry the war to us. Now they have oil money. Time to drill here.
Indeed what you say is straight from the Koran. When the characteristics of Islam are considered it is at best very difficult to argue that Islam is NOT a religion that worships Satan
The acceptance by American politicians of the lies from Muslims which is condoned and encouraged by the Koran toward any infidel, especially Jews and Christians, brings to mind a quote from John Wayne: “Life is tough, it’s even tougher if your stupid”. Stupid is a good tag for, far to many members of Congress, who believe what Muslim leaders tell them, especially the members who think they will benefit by supporting Islam. If Islam is successful in replacing our America law with Shariah law, the heads of those corrupt politicians will be among the first to be separated from their torsos. After all why would Muslims want to keep someone who betrays their own people alive.
