As Israel’s UN ambassador, Ron Prosor, said:  “Every rocket flying out of Gaza could bear the imprint ‘Courtesy of Tehran.’”

Good point.  It should make us think more broadly about the Gaza/Israel war. That war isn’t just a conflict between Israel and Hamas, because both stand for much larger parts of the world.  Israel’s ability to wage war depends in part on the military cooperation and assistance that comes from the United States (think Iron Dome, just for starters), while Hamas’s strength derives in part from help coming from Iran and Qatar.

So the Gaza war should be seen as a test of the two sides’ backers as well as a test of the actual combatants, in the same way the Spanish Civil War tested the abilities and resolve of the two sides that would shortly face off directly in the world war.  The West’s decision to stay out of the little war encouraged Hitler and Mussolini to be more ambitious, thereby making the big war more likely.

Pundits almost never put the several little wars now raging from Europe to the Middle East in global context, preferring to deal with each separate conflict as a separate event.  But even a short look at recent headlines about Hamas shows the extent of its support network (which should be the main issue).  Here are three, in addition to the one quoting Amb. Prosor:

1.  A secret arms deal between Hamas and North Korea;

2.  Deals between Iran and North Korea;

3.  Bragging by one of the most powerful Iranian leaders, Ali Larijani, taking credit for providing Hamas with rockets.

Eyes tend to roll at the suggestion that North Korea is a significant force in world affairs, but the leaders of the hermit kingdom do matter.  Take all those Gazan tunnels, for example.  One will get you five that a good deal of the expertise, and perhaps even a certain degree of manpower, came from Pyongyang.  The North Koreans excel at tunneling, as at nuclear weaponry. (Remember that Syrian nuke facility the Israelis bombed a while ago?  That was a North Korean public works project.  And they have worked hard on the Tehran subway system and on tunnels in Iranian mountains too.)  They are totally in cahoots with the Iranians on missiles and nukes, and evidently link up with the mullahs to help terror organizations.

"Somebody should stand up and say these things, and ask our leaders why they aren’t coming up with a strategy to win the big war."

We would, but we don't have any.

Michael, for a long time you tells us that major global threat comes from radical Islam, from the evil's Tehran regime and its allies of evil regimes that anti-the United States. It's great that you have NEVER absolved those evil regimes from the sinister intent as do some wimps in Washington.
Yes, there are a global evil network "from Moscow to Tehran, Riyadh and Khartoum, and from Pyongyang to Damascus, Havana and Caracas." they all are waging war against the satanic influence on earth, despise that benevolent influence. and often their people celebrating America's agony.
They indeed challenging the existing world order, where their blunt statements perceive that the current world order as the personification of Capitalism, Imperialism and Zionism, which is in the State of Israel. They trying to revive the Axis of Evil and enlist additional partners by family reunion, but after all, the silent and feeble West always blames America on its moral struggle against this Global Evil, which is a real threat to the West and the Western freedoms.
these filthy bloods drinker's regimes are leading its own people to destruction and devastation rather than grant them a decent life. So the war should take place everywhere, war is a boon and godsend. This evil never destroy without the real war. these evil regimes never annihilate without a shattering war and a nuclear strike on its heads to change their cities into ash. A shattering war that would be able to erasing them from the earth's surface. They never have come into the road of goodness.

Passing thought: Why not publicly taunt the Iranian regime with this? Tell the Iranian people that their government took their shot at Israel and failed miserably. Impotence doesn't win you public support in that neck of the woods.

just to barely stay aloft.

Yes, but the voices standing up are few and small -- and our leaders are occupied with simultaneous attacks from the left -- just to ba

"It’s a global network: add Russia (very busy in Syria, not just Ukraine, lest we forget) and Cuba and Venezuela and Bolivia and Nicaragua playing significant roles."

Indeed it is but the author's list has a notable omission. China has consistently blocked in the UN any effective International sanctions against the rogue regimes. Not just its client state N Korea but Iran as well. China was the primary facilitator of Pakistan gaining nuclear weapons capability. China is conducting research into the militarization of space. Its naval buildup is focused upon confronting and defeating US naval forces.

The truth of the matter is that freedom loving people in the West face a multitude of external enemies who primarily are adherents of the two foremost totalitarian ideologies in the world; Islam and Marxist/leftism. Most notably, an internal fifth column of western leftists are doing all they can to bring down the West's ability to both respond to aggression and are also internally attacking the West's social cohesion.

"So when you think about Gaza, remember that it’s just one battlefield and one small war, a piece of a big war that threatens us more and more with every passing day."

Excellent points as always. We are, and have been for decades, in the midst of another world war, thrust upon us. We've simply chosen to try to ignore it 90% of the time rather than fight it economically, politically, socially, and yes, militarily. Sooner or later we'll not have the luxury of ignoring it.

This poses a question as to how many of these groups are religious and how many criminal syndicates. Generally speaking, fundamentalist Sunnis despise Shia. For example, if Hamas really is accepting Iranian money and support, members of ISIS would shoot a Hamas operative on sight.

ISIS is composed of men who are not only Salafis (Wahhabi) but consider themselves specifically Arab and defend the Arabic language. They not only despise Shia in Iraq but consider them Persians who have insultingly appropriated Arabic names. ISIS is destroying mosques (mostly Shia) built over graves. ISIS constantly uses insulting terms for Shia in their rhetoric like "safawi" and "rafidi."

In some ways, an Iranian bragging about supporting Sunnis would discredit those Sunnis in the eyes of the Arab world.

Saying Hamas gets help from both Iran and Wahhabi Qatar is like saying neo-Nazis get help for white supremacists in another country and the NAACP. That poses a question as to how much disinformation is being used to discredit groups.

Dave Surls below wrote: "... if push comes to shove, a five megaton airburst over Tehran will solve pretty much all problems vis a vis the mad mullahs".

It solves the problem only in the sense that the allies having to fight a world war of 50 million dead solved the problem of Hitler. Dr. Ledeen's point above is better to preempt such threats.

Also, the horrible solution of your nuclear bomb to be used "if push comes to shove" is even less attractive if Iran has developed counter-force capability by that time For example, a nuke in a container, weapon-ized infectious diseases or perhaps even an EMP detonated over St. Louis and affecting a large part of N. America.

It solves the problem in the sense that all the mad mullahs are dead. Or just about all of them, if you nuke them when they're gathered together. Dead men don't organize terror groups or supply them with weapons. You could ask Saddam Hussein about that one, only he's no longer available for comment.

Observations:
100 million divided by 7 billion = 1.43%. Divided by 1 billion (Muslims) it is 10%. Killing that many took a 6+ year effort by an entire world.

Nukes, as people killers are not very effective. You need large concentrations like cities to make even a dent. Islam is short of enough cities to make it possible to keep warhead count down and local...have to hit lots and lots of places across a quarter of the world.

Better, defund, really...not just lip service, UN and Muslim anything. Simultaneously turn the anti-Islam propaganda guys loose, fund them with a pittance of the money no longer going to UN and Palestine. It will be calm within 5 years, over in ten and forgotten in 50 years.
