Kanye West’s Ingenious Solution to Racism

Kayne West may have just said the smartest thing ever about racism.

Kayne's answer to racism is the best answer of all time.

Kayne’s answer to racism is the best answer of all time.

Kayne West presented another easy target for widespread mockery. A source told HollywoodLife.com that the eccentric rapper contemplated leaving the United States to escape racism. At least, that’s the paraphrase which made it to social media. “Kayne West Threatens to Leave U.S. Over Racism” reads the Issue Hawk headline.

That may be a bum rap, however. What West actually said expresses, however crudely, the only legitimate solution to racism. The quote from HollywoodLife.com:

Kanye’s brush with racist slurs made him realize it’s not the environment he ever wants his daughter to experience. ”He also said ‘sh*t like this makes me want to take Kim, Nori, and her whole family and move out of this country and go someplace small and quiet,’” the source explained.

Kanye reasoned, “‘We’ve got enough money to buy our own island or some sh*t. I’ll be damned if I raise my daughter around ignorance and flat-out blatant racism.’”

While critics focus on a perceived slight against America, they miss that West was not comparing the United States to another country. He expressed a desire to use his private means to isolate his family in an act of free association.

Giving him the maximum benefit of the doubt, West’s comment proves refreshing. Rather than place responsibility upon someone else to protect his daughter from racism, he contemplates a private solution of his own making.

Indeed, free association emerges as the only legitimate weapon against racism. Choosing your relationships, whom you deal with and whom you don’t, communicates your values and censures or affirms the values of others. A society of individuals free to choose their associations fosters a market where irrational attitudes about race fade into obscurity. Consider every example from slavery through Jim Crow to affirmative action, and note that institutional racism requires force to survive. Without force, under liberty, racism becomes impotent.

I'm glad people finally understand there is no wall around America. Considering the fact that people all over the world turn their back on their families and countries for something as innocuous as a job, I would think a belief one is living in a white supremacist nation would trump a job by quite a bit.

I am personally tired of people in America slumming on the back of past oppression they never experienced, bringing it into the present or praising "noble" countries they refuse to actually live in.

When you want to see truth, watch feet, not lips. If you think America is one big KKK, fine. If racism is the central worry of your experience, presumably that won't be an issue in noble Africa. So go. But in West's case, as in the case of everyone from bell hooks to Tim Wise, I say "Welcome to Racist Island."

In fact, put the entirety of the Dem Party's constituency on an island for a year and watch how racism and bigotry magically disappears. No black awards I can't win, no gay anthologies I can't be a part of, no all-female web sites declaring the straight white male to be history's permanent Nazi Party.

There'd also be the fringe benefit to the rest of us of having one less racist here in America stinking up the airwaves with his ranting and raving. It's just a pity we don't have quite enough isolated islands here on Earth to accommodate all the limousine lefties like him.

"I'm trashing America b/c I made millions here - yeah, me & Oprah - there's so much racism we can't catch a break!"

You can get a man out of the ghetto but you can't get the ghetto out of a man.

True, and when the person in question isn't even much of a man, well....

I actually sympathize with Kanye's desire to flee a toxic environment. It reminds me of the reason so many white people fled the big cities after the mid-1960s.

"White Racism is so bad that I am going to avoid White neighborhoods, White schools and White stores."

-said No-one.

Ever.

Um, sorry, but plenty of black people DO avoid some white neighborhoods, etc., for just that reason.

In some small subset of those cases, it's justified.

Just because the black community in general sees racism under every bush, doesn't mean there isn't real racism present.

We aren't helping anybody by pretending otherwise.

I wonder if Kanye is really experiencing racism, or, like Obama, finding out a lot of people just don't like HIM?

One benefit of being AA in America is that if someone doesn't like you or is rude to you, you can conclude they are "racist" because anyone who knows you would love you. It must be very comforting and explains the high self esteem of some of these people who have no reason otherwise to have any.

That's the ugliest thing about PC Amerikka. The fact that our black brothers and sisters have been issued an unspoken, unwritten, de facto Royal License by our betters to behave as the national village idiots.

And none, black OR white, are allowed to protest this state of affairs, on pain of either being called racist, or placed in the stocks and ritually pelted with Oreo cookies.

Kayne West leaving the United States would certainly reduce the level of racism here. Can't wait for him to make good on his promise.

What if Kanye read a book on Darwin's theory and understood that the roots of "racism" over the last half million years that little tribes of people tried to protect themselves from other nomadic tribes that preyed on them was to note their different markings and appearances and to fear them and swing a wide birth or be the one to strike first or strike back. Being more comfortable with your own clan than with complete strangers is nothing to be perturbed or shocked about. At holidays, (spoiler alert) I'd rather hang out with the goumbas I grew up with than my wife's family, and she feels the same way about her peeps. Just natural and it has nothing to do with racism (we're all the same color). So (now) the least racist country on the Planet, the US of A, attracts the most polyglot group of races imaginable and it shoots off alot of sparks at the edges. I say "Some Spicy Meatball!" but you can't build yourself a melting pot without some heat. And if you can't take the heat . . . I guess Kanye can't take it. What a little girly girl.

It takes a lot of money to be oppressed nowadays.

Imagine! A country where all the lefties kept their promises to leave the country when something they didn't like happened. Wouldn't that be sorta like Heaven?
