Thurston, We Have a Problem

July 5th, 2013 - 8:00 pm

“State Department: Yeah, despite our denial, Kerry was on his yacht during Egypt upheaval,” Mary Katharine Ham writes at Hot Air. Click over for the back story, which involves a pair of Wednesday tweets from CBS producer Mosheh Oinounou, the second of which was a photo of Kerry’s yacht in the dock, captioned, “Secretary Kerry was aboard his yacht, the ‘Isabel’ this afternoon”:

The second of those two tweets went understandably viral, at which point, the State Department could have issued a statement saying, “The Secretary of State is in Nantucket but is actively engaged in diplomatic blah, blah, blah.” But that’s not what they did. Instead, they unequivocally denied the report:

But the State Department said Kerry was not aboard a boat on Wednesday and has spent the day working the phones on Egypt. “Since his plane touched down in Washington at 4 a.m., Secretary Kerry was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “He participated in the White House meeting with the president by secure phone and was and is in non-stop contact with foreign leaders, and his senior team in Washington and Cairo. Any report or tweet that he was on a boat is completely inaccurate.”

That’s Jen Psaki, formerly of the Obama campaign, if the elegant ease of her B.S. syntax rings a bell for you. In the face of conflicting reports and photographic evidence from other Nantucket denizens that Kerry was indeed in Nantucket and his boat was on the water, State finally admitted to CBS that Kerry was “briefly” on his boat Wednesday.

And CBS’s fellow lefties at the House of  Stephanopoulos are certainly cool with that. “Objectivity overboard! ABC News runs interference for yachtsman Kerry,” Twitchy notes, linking to ABC tweeting that “Kerry Focused on Egypt Despite Yacht Visit.” Nope, no bias there. And when I say that there is none, I do mean that there is a certain amount, to borrow from another nautical comedy routine. This Twitter user is succinct in his reply:

On the other hand, as Richard Fernandez writes, give Kerry credit for getting as far away as possible from the hash his boss is making of the Middle East:

Perhaps some people might have thought that John Kerry had the sense to go fishing, as that would be a higher and better use of time than hanging out with the White House wrecking crew. Better to be on the “Isabel” than on the “Titanic.”

It is not unreasonable to wonder how the president can go forward in Syria, Turkey, Libya, Jordan and Iraq — remember Iraq? — with American diplomacy in this condition. My advice: if someone asks “who lost  the Middle East?” — go look for a YouTube video to blame.

Oh, and continuing the theme of this administration being rudderless and adrift at sea, this was an official Tweet from the Obama administration today:

An image that will likely be Photoshopped endlessly over the next few years; starting with…

obama_kayak_ship_sinking_7-5-13-2

(Headline first used by Susan Olasky in 2004 in regards to everyone’s favorite Boston Brahmin turned Winter Soldier.)

Update: Sarah Palin writes that Kerry “on his boat isn’t the issue. Blatantly deceiving the American people is the issue.”

While I love the optics let him 'yacht' - and Gawd Almighty let Obama golf - and for God's sake take the IRS and the EPA along for the fun! Doing nothing beats the hell out of the damage these wankers are capable of when they're busy 'fixing' things. The world cannot stand any more 'fixing' from these morons.

Sad to say, so long as no American lives are in danger, we're probably better off w Kerry on his yacht and ObamaRx piddling around. They'll do less damage that way.

Jen Psaki can't be blamed for simply being in step with the left's ONLY true religion, PR, and their abiding mantra "perception is reality". If they say it's so, it's so. Period!

One is reminded of when Harry truman said that Richard Nixon lied even when the truth would serve him well, just to keep his hand in. The Obama Admin lies by reflex, then they think about whether they actually gained by doing so.

Can we just amend the constitution to do away with the office of the presidency? If we hadn't had one at all the past four years I don't see how we would be any worse off.

The world could be engulfed in total conflagration and Kerry wouldn't care. He's above it all. "Is that steak done yet?"

I will have the most clueless, (oops, I know he said transparent but we know the truth now) administration in the history of the United States of America.

I assume you are referring to Thurston Howell III?

The S.S. Minnow. What a great symbol for the Obama Ship of State.

Egyptians are fighting for their freedom, I don't see them being as a sinking ship. I actually see the Obama administration Kayak being the sinking ship. Egyptians in the past two years fought and fought hard for their democracy and freedom despite the administration pressure. I think all Americans shall be Jealous and follow the Egyptian revolution foot steps and learn how to impeach a president. 33 Million went down asking for a secular free Egypt and 22 million signed a petition to impeach Mohamed Morsi who harbored terrorism.

Egypt is being manipulated by opposing forces in Egypt and elsewhere in the middle east European and the USA as well. Its all a part of the 'war' going on all across the globe - not a hot war but a war nonetheless and a large part of why the world economy sucks. All you need to know is who gets along with whom in order to know who's happy and when. Obama seemed quite happy with the arraignment of having the muslim brotherhood running Egypt despite WH claims to the contrary. Perception is reality and thats that.

Since our support is directed primarily to the Egyptian military that may continue as a 'sweetener' from Obama to encourage the military there to include the muslim brotherhood. Stupid logic IMO - why didn't he suggest that Mubarak be included in any democratic reforms during the 'Arab Spring' uprising? Obama couldn't care less that the people have spoken. They already have - twice. Proves that Obama isn't a listener.
