Columnist: [Smith has] “a new book that makes me want to stab my eyes out….”
Well, apparently my new book topic is striking a chord. I noticed that the New Zealand Herald has an article out today by a woman named Rebecca Kamm who is really insulted that men’s issues are finally getting some attention. I guess she and her cohorts better swat me down lest the truth get out. Here is some of what she had to say:
Now that all the naughty ladies have control of the earth, men are staging a revolt. They’re doing this by not going to university, not marrying, and working in low-paid jobs. Some of them are refusing to work at all, in protest against the government’s secret plan to give ALL the tax dollars to women. That’s the thesis of Male Strike: Society’s War On Men, a new book that makes me want to stab my eyes out so I can never be tempted to even peek inside its pages, ever. Its author is men’s rights activist and psychologist Dr Helen Smith, who calls this imaginary male revolt “Going Galt”. (Inspired by the Ayn Rand novel Atlas Shrugged, in which a character by the name of John Galt leads an industrial strike against exploitation.)
Smith, who writes for ultra conservative blog network PJ Media, believes “The government and the politicians work in cahoots with women to extract money from men.”
Wow, this lady sounds incredibly upset that men and their supporters are finally speaking out and has no curiosity about the male point of view. Even the first commenter to her spew knows more about what is going on:
I tell you what Rebecca, write to the Ministry of Men’s Affairs, your local Men’s Health Centre, and the university that teaches Men’s Issues and complain. Then, once you have found these places and organisations don’t exist (but they do for women), whip over to the Family Court and check out how many dollars are paid by fathers to mothers and compare that to how much money is paid by mothers to fathers.
Anyway, Rebecca, thanks for the publicity and possible book blurb–stabbing your eyes out–what a good bit of hyperbole for the back cover! And maybe the men of New Zealand will start to realize that they don’t have it so good either–all because of your article–thanks again.
Interesting that she doesn’t want to read a book that might challenge her world view. How open minded she is.
How many boys are allowed to play on girls’ sports teams?
In soccer today, we are required by US Youth Soccer to form girls-only teams and coed-teams. We are not permitted to form boys-only teams.
The ultimate irony about having no “boys only” sports teams (only “girls” and “co-ed”) is that it tells girls that they must judge themselve by male standards, i.e., they are lesser status unless they can compete with men. So the utlimate goal of girl athletes in that system is not to play and have a winning girls team, but to be good enough to make the boys team and not have to play with girls anymore. The proper message to send is that you are just as valuable as boys because even the girls who would be good enough to play the boys play on your team.

The closing of her article explains fully the motivation behind her polemic. She writes, “Even if we have rearranged the “system” so Man Dollars fall in our harlot laps, as we swan about in search of ATMS. I mean men. Muhahahaha…” You see, she knows that this is how things are and she likes it that way.

Dr Helen, active men’s rights activists are being threatened with lethal weapons in public these days. I know you are probably ready for anything but just wanted you to be aware.
If there is one thing the Identity-mongers hate, it is an Identity traitor. I just wish I could see Roger’s face upon being told PJM is “ultra conservative”.

One thing’s for certain. It’s still eight months before pub date and you’re already in the top 340,000 on Amazon. If you don’t get murdered by feminist critics or get sucked into a black hole, this book could be huge-a-mundo (official publishing jargon).

I hope not! I turned it in last April but publishing is slow. I will keep readers posted about the date, hopefully something sooner than June.

Um, yeah. Look, it’s the Herald. Which is centre-left by default and is the default (only) newspaper for the upper North Island where most NZers live.
And it is the most right wing paper… in the most right wing part of NZ. We range from soft socailism to people who would scare the Obamaites politically. What is standard right wing discussions in the USA is far right in NZ.
Means nothing. Most kiwis ignore the newspapers and TV and get their news from the net. It’s more reliable.

I should be amazed that a book that nobody has read and isn’t in print yet, would be attacked as if it was thoroughly analyzed and fully read… but sadly, I’m not.
PJM is far, far Ultra-Right, so far that Attila the Hun is a progressive in comparison. I know it’s true, the PuffHo quotes Daily Kos as saying so.
Reemeber – the anti-aircraft fire is always heaviest right above the target. The strength of the response is a direct indicator of just how close you are coming to destroying what they are trying hardest to defend. Spot-on, I think.

Reminds me an saying that truly applies. “Careful what you ask for, you might just get it”. Seem’s they are getting it now, whether they wanted it or not and their are burying their heads in the sand and denying the full impact of it.

I suspect Helen already knows…and I strongly suspect the ‘she’ who will be after Helen doesn’t have much in the way of weaponry knowledge outside of words. Which can’t be discounted – but Helen is fighting in that same arena. And winning, I’d say, judging from the panic implied in that post.
You should send her a copy of the book with your compliments. Include an audiobook version too. Just in case.

Was at dinner with my husband last night, and talking about our son’s place in the world, and he referred me to your blog. Good to know I am not alone in thinking that the shadow cast by the feminist approach to bolstering girls is a systemic disregard for what is good about being male. After reading the preview of your book, I went and pre-ordered off Amazon. I look forward to reading it.

I see you changed the title. I like the new title, and the subtitle, though not having the same grabbing power as “Society’s War on Men,” does lend itself for a more female-friendly market. And women buy WILDLY more books than men. No doubt your publisher told you that.

Thanks for pointing out the change in title over at Amazon. Yes, I went back and forth with the publisher on titles but I think this one has a bit more universal appeal. I do want to point out that the book is still written for men and includes men’s descriptions of what is happening in our society. I tried to use actual examples of men’s thoughts and feelings to illustrate their point of view.
